This is the first Work In Progress page of my huge USS Enterprise project.
About this creation
I am building a minifig scale, (or as close to minifig scale as possible) model of the famed WWII aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, nicknamed the BIG E. This ship when it is finished is going to be HUGE! I'm not sure exactly how big, I'm not even going to start on the hull right now, I'm only working on the superstructure. So far done I have the forward top part of the superstructure done, the bridge and mast, also the smaoke stack, and two small gun turrets, alongside that are numerous detail parts.
This is the bridge.
Radar on top.
The mast, it is very tall, and includes communications and more sensors.
The enormous smokestack, the real ship was huge, so naturally it needed a huge smokestack to get rid of all the waste.
One of my two guns I've built so far, these are mounted right in front of and below the bridge, with one behind and slightly higher than the other.
Gun controls.
I'm not sure what this thing is or what it does, it just looks so cool I'm going to put it on the deck.
Various other deck detail parts.
Because a ship needs all sorts of fences.
And the two ninifigs I have so far for this, the two gunners.

I don't plan on doing it perfectly minifig sized, I'm going for a nice big carrier that fits plenty of detail, without going way overboard and exausting my life savings. So in sort, It's only going to be about 6 feet, thats plenty of space for me. |

Speaking about giant projects, I'm making a giant Titanic! It may not be as big as this one, yet I plan it to be... 4 1/2-5 feet, I would say. |

Very nice, it has very clean lines for a lego, superb job. Do you plan on making the guns on the front under the forward flight deck? Because if you are making the updated version, that is the ONLY place where there are uhhh... im blanking on the name, but i think it is the only place where the old "Chicago piano" 4x40 mm cannons were.
You are correct, the "Chicago Pianos" were mounted above the maintnence deck underneath the flight deck, these will be modelled in a different setup, with a smaller barrel design, and will be built and featured when I've started on the decks. |

That is so cool! I was thinking of making my own, but this one might be better. Nice details. You're right of making it step by step. I'm usually too excited, I do it all at once. Then I have to fix tons of problems... |

Sweet man, where you getting the pieces from?
Do you know how long it will be?
I do have enough pieces for this part of the superstructure, They're all mixed in with the rest of the legos, I just have to dig for them. I plan to make it through the superstructure faster, maybe by a few weeks, the hull and especialy the hanger deck will take much longer, because of the vast amount of parts I will have to order, I estimate, until final completion: maybe a few months. |
