About this creation
After building the 12x886 I wanted to build something else to go along with it. Something from later in the history of space. So I build a 12x1620.
This time I wanted to build something from later in Space history since the original idea of the 12x886 was to celebrate the 25 anniversary of space. I also wanted something that I could pull out of my existing collection of bricks. I had to acquire a lot of grey for the 12x886.
I forget the exact set of sets I was considering now, but there were three or four that made the short list. The 12x1620 stood out because it was small, didn't have any grey, was from much later in Space history and it had lots of interesting pieces to try and build at 12x scale.
This model was first displayed at Brickfest 2004. It was setup in a "little" display with the 12x886, a red classic space figure and a blue Futuron figure. It was a lot of fun putting this display together, and people really seemed to enjoy playing with the giant pieces. Especially when they realized how well they simulate their smaller counterparts.
Jeff Van Winden also contributed to this display by adding a robot character that appeared in several Futuron era sets.
Later that fall I setup the display again at the Hobby show in Toronto.
Shortly after that my need for bricks and space lead to the demise of both the 12x886 and the 12x1620. They were a lot of fun to build but man it take a lot of parts to build these this big, and a lot of space to store them.
I will probably attempt something 12x scale again. Probably not space themed though. Some town, and castle sets have peaked my interest.
Below is a break down of the individual parts. There are more pictures available in the brickshelf folder. The mini-fig isn't represented here, I will be adding in details of the blue Futuron figure soon. The yellow one here is exactly the same with the exception of colour.
The one piece missing from this set is the Walkie-Talkie. I never got to the point of being able to have the mini-fig hold it. It's just to heavy for the gearing used to move the arms. I'll post it separately soon. Like the GIMF in the 12x886 the Walkie-Talkie is a lot of fun just hold in your hand. It's almost perfect human size.

This shows the 1x2 hing brick function. It's not strong enough to hold at an angle, but it will lock in the up and down positions.

Black 1x2 Grille without Groove
Hmmm, I just realized I built the one with Groove. Oops.

Black Hinge 1x2 Base
White Hinge 1x2 Top
This is one of my favourite pieces. I took a lot of work to make it look right, and make it function right, then be strong enough to support the weight of the pieces that needed to hang off of it.

Black Hinge Control Stick
White Hinge Control Stick Base
This ones a little confusing, peeron says the stick is OldGray, but all pictures I've seen and my instructions show it in black. Since I was pretty much out of gray for the 12x886 the choice to use Black was an easy one.

White Bracket 2x3-2x2
This is another favourite. It's great when you can get a piece to come together so it fuctions so much like the original.

Black 2x4 plate.
Unfortuneately the White 3x3 Plate without Corner is on the next page in brickshelf. I'm not sure how to get it to appear here. But it's big and white and there are two of them. I had very little white left over after building them.
