Phoenix 571 revealed - GOTCHA!
Almost as much fun as a whoopee cushion.
About this creation
Oh, you poor suckers,
IT WAS JUST TOO EASY!

Phoenix 571 was built and written by Shannon Ocean, and posted by me, Shannon Young.

Trouble at the Base was built and written by me, Shannon Young, and posted by Shannon Ocean.

It is a curious fact that a lot of you can't seem to tell us apart, even though our styles are quite different. I see people ALL THE TIME attributing Shannonia to Shannon Ocean, for example. So we had this idea to do a MOC in the other's style and post each other's work, then see if anyone caught on. HAHA! APRIL FOOL'S!!

How to prove I built all those MOCs posted on his page? I have the detail shots! Or perhaps this is just the next phase in our elaborate hoax, muddying the waters a bit more...

But honestly, look at the level of quality here. Is Ocean REALLY capable of brilliance like this? A sweet Classic Space hovercraft? Okay, maybe he is. I intentionally toned my genius down to make it believable that he could be the builder. Yeah, that's the ticket...

If you've been following Ocean's flickr stream for the past month you'll know that he's been hitting the Neo-Classic Space bottle pretty hard lately -- shameless bandwagon-jumper that he is.

Even so, I'm surprised nobody questioned this. It should be obvious in retrospect that he wouldn't build this craft as simplistically as I have.

If there's one aspect in which Ocean has me beat (remember, I said IF), it's part usage. He's much better at inventive incorporation of odd parts into his builds, where I'm mostly a basic bricks-plates-slopes-tiles guy... which is reflected in the hovercraft here.

What about this cool robot? Do you REALLY think -- Oh, all right, Ocean totally could have built this. Maybe.

But he didn't. I did.

He can even balance on one foot! And what does Ocean build for me in return? ANOTHER microcity, ho-hum, not enough of those on MOCpages already...

How about this guy? Look at the articulation! Those crazy arms and legs! Actually that's probably more a case for him having built it than me. Hmm...

The wide open spaces in his forearms and lower legs looked a bit odd to me but it seemed I'd seen Ocean do something like it recently on some other bot so there you go.

In honor of my Aussie counterpart. Because everything in Australia is upside down.

Okay, this should convince you. I know, I know, it looks like it could be his work -- weird little vehicle with a dude's head sticking out of it.

Although he'd be able to manage a better engine. Maybe.

But does Ocean have the engineering skills to incorporate four wheel independent suspension in it? Ocean, the artiste? All right, just for the sake of argument, let's say that maybe he does.

Maybe a crappy youtube video will convince you.

Look carefully at the hands: are those the big gorilla-like paws seen swooshing any number of Ocean-built spaceships over on his page? No, those long slim fingers devoid of any sign of manual labor denote some sort of musician, or artiste... wait. Damn.

Okay, this should clinch it. Look at that Mysterion. Would Ocean build one so lacking in inspiration, so boring, so symmetrical? I'm sure he cringed when he saw it: "That hack wants me to post THIS on my page, as if I could have built this monstrosity? Oh, I'll get him for this..."

Finally, that's a typical rainy April sky here in the Pacific Northwest, boys and girls, and that's a slice of an absolutely unharmed Shannonia.

... I still don't understand how a story of me trashing Shannonia in a fit of drunkenness was somehow so believable.

And be sure to check out that other bearded wonder posing with Shannonia's ostensible replacement (sans tequila) down in Aussieland.

Quoting herald of reference . in that shannonia pic, was tha you?
Nah, I waved that bottle of tequila at some wretched homeless dude who lives in the woods behind the local grocery store and said, "You can have this if you let me take your picture holding this Lego city." He was suspicious but eventually agreed. Then he wouldn't give Shannonia back, he tried to ransom it for all I had in my wallet. So I had to kill him. And steal his Seahawks hat. He already got half a gallon of Cuervo from me, he's not getting my three dollars and a library card.

I guess we're all just too amazed by both of your works to listen to anything else anymore. Although wehn you think about, Ocean would totally never build a satellite dish like that on a Classic Space module. And that storyline is something he'd never dream of either. But the fact that you chose Classic Space in the first place, with that robot, made it much more believable. Nice one you pulled, though. As for me, I sent my parents a letter of debt from the taxing bureu. Good day

You know, while I didn't comment on the story, you had me fooled. In fact, just the day before you posted, I completely trashed my medieval market set in a stuper. Hopefully I'll be able to find all the pieces.

You guys got me. I was slightly confused by your or, rather Ocean's story about the skunk, but I just let it go. Apparantly I was on to something.

In retrospect, I have to say that the writing was just a little too "where's my thesaurus" for your writing (hear me out). Your stuff is always written intelligently with great wit and humor splashed and dashed with words that make you read the sentence twice to get the meaning... but (like I said, in retrospect only) that writing was inundated with every 14 sylable word that could be thrown in... I shoulda known. As far as the building goes, you guys are both good enough to be able to imitate anyone's style that you'd like (heck, you could even do mine. Just throw a bunch of bricks at the wall and take the pics where they land) so it's no stretch that you both could pull this off. Congrats to both of you on a prank! Like I said on ShannO's site, the only thing I knew was that Shannonia wasn't gone, other than that, you got me. Well, this comment has gotten out of hand already so I'll just end it with "have another shot for me!" Thanks for the laugh guys ~ Chris.

Wow, and I was going to write a review about how impossibly overrated Shannonia was. That it was no great loss, and that the LEGO community in general would be a happier and better place knowing that it could never be subjected to yet ANOTHER painfully mediocre Shannonia update. Whew...am I ever glad I didn’t do that! Oh…wait…

Ah, tequila - the golden nectar of the gods. I really liked the "Mysterion Object 113", and was thinking that Ocean was giving you a run for you money in the writing department - tricked me. Lee.

Of all the...NEVER do that again!! I mean, it was bad enough to think I wouldn't have any competition this fall at BrickCon, but to think that you wouldn't have a memorial? Never.

You two are mad, you know that? However, shannonia is bigger than that. Gotcha! And yes, there is a reason you breaking shannonia in a stupor is believable; I'll leave it to someone more qualified than I to state it, though.
