Ian-12 is a diplomatic-communications-unit. That's fancy-talk for 'sweet-talker to the people your leaders want stuff from'. It's a boring job, but Ian-12 doesn't have much choice.
He was given the job because he couldn't take any other job seriously -or that's what they think. He is an explorer. He likes to see how thinks work, experience it himself. But the other robots see it as screwing-around.
So he's finally got himself an adventure. He is apart of the STAT, and they are on an expedition with three other robots to explore the past. Literally. They are in the early-years of bionicle, exploring the different islands mysteries.

[Going from left to right] Frank-47 is the commander, and leader of the group. He is a hot-headed military-unit. | Mark-11 is Ian-12's best friend, and the archaeological-scout-unit. His job is to help them get the lay-of-the-land, and also has a wide range of knowledge of nature. | Ian-12. You know who he is. | mac-17 can pretty much fix anything. He is an engineering-medical-unit.
