Largest battleship ever made. Yamato had 9 x 18.1" guns & was 70,000+ tons. This LEGO creation is 1"=108" scale. 8' long, 14" wide & 18" tall. Over 25,000+ bricks used & weighs 50 pounds. Separates into 3 sections for easy transport. Made from actual blueprints & diagrams of the actual ship. Making diorama of Operation Ten-Go.
Visit Japanese Yukikaze Destroyer (1"=108" scale) http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/174576 to see more LEGO Yukikaze pics.
LEGO USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier 8' long will be next.
Stay tuned...

Absolutely superb! I love both the size and level of detail present here. Few MOCs have such wide appeal as this one...
Thanx Kevin! This just in...
LEGO Yamato Battleship just won the
"People's Choice Award" at the Bricks by the Bay event in Fremont, California. Over 5,000 attended.
My next project, USS Yorktown (8' long), will have moving parts & flashing lights!
I'll upload pix when the building begins.
I expect to be completed by summer, 2012. |

I really like the idea of the water below the ship. It turns the model into something in motion and it looks not that static.
Very well done!!
Hello my esteemed LEGO colleague. 1) That's exactly what I was trying to capture. The LEGO battleship 'slicing' thru the waves at full speed ahead, preparing for battle stations. Watch what I will do for my LEGO Yukikaze destroyer water scene. It will be SPECTACULAR! 2) The guns, the guns, the guns. It's all about the BIG GUNS! :-) HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! |

Thanx Joe. To see a sneak peek of my lastest LEGO warship 'Yukikaze Japanese Destroyer' scale 1"=108" (43" long) under construction, please go to:

LEGO Yukikaze will be added with the LEGO Yamato. 3 American warplanes will complete Operation Ten Go diorama. Japanese LEGO Aircraft Carrier Akagi scale 1"/108" (8' Long) is in the planning stages for a Battle of Midway diorama. When the Akagi is completed, the German Battleship Bismarck scale 1"/108" (about 8' long) will be next. Stay tuned... |

Your Yamato battleship is an amazing project that deserves all kinds of prizes.
Please tell me what you think about my battecruiser Gualdim Pais ( i finished it one month after yours).
Keep with the good work.

I have been following Jumpei Mitsui minifig scale Yamato Battleship for a long time. He completed his in April, 2009 & it's 22' long. My LEGO Yamato was finished a month later. Mine is 1" = 108" (or 1" = 9') scale and it is 8' long.
Is yours a computer model only?
What scale is your LEGO Yamato?

Yamato ship is not minifig scale size. The ship is just under twice the minifig scale size.
Minifig scale is around 1/40. My LEGO Yamato is 1/108. If it was minifig scale size, it would be around 22 feet long. My LEGO Yamato is 8 feet long.
The little white & brown barrels you see throughout the ships deck are the scale size of sailors (1" = 108"). -Marcello |

Amazing! I just blogged this:
http://microbricks.blogspot.com/2009/07/yamato.html
My only complaint is that I wish you'd take some pictures against a neutral background - even just hanging a sheet over those boxes behind it. I looked through your website, MOCpage, Brickshelf, and Bill Ward's photos from Maker Fair looking for the best ones, but none of them showed off this masterpiece to the level it should be shown. |
