I grew up building Lego in the 70s & 80s. Lego adverts featuring Tommy Cooper used to be on TV. I'm somewhere on the front cover this edition of the Lego Club's Bricks 'n' Pieces magazine. As a kid I found Stewart Cowley's Terran Trade Authority books in the school library, with illustrations by the likes of Peter Elson. So with this as inspiration and loads of red, yellow, blue, black & white Lego, my path was chosen for me!

Somewhere along the way, I also discovered the brilliant art of Chris Foss.

More recently I've come across the "Homeworld" computer games. The look was inspired by Elson & Foss. Here's a link to examples of the Homeworld concept artwork.

Another source of inspiration is the incredibly creative, varied and prodigious output of Nnenn . There are so many wonderful shapes and colours here that I've only just started to absorb it all and it's very sad that there won't be any more.

It has also been pointed out that my builds often have a retro sci-fi look. I've realised that another inspiration was finding my Dad's old "Eagle" comics form the 1950's. In particular these featured the amazing cutaway drawings of Leslie Ashwell Wood.

Although I've worked in outdoor education for 20 years, I have a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. I was passionate about aeroplanes as a kid. These two factors have also had a big influence on my current Lego building. "I am, and ever will be, a nerdy engineer."

I won't be posting anything in the winter months, as I go to work and play in Switzerland.
