Greetings to all builders. I have been building with LEGOs since I was four, however, things did not really spark with me till LEGO UNIVERSE was created. Never having enough money to buy the LEGOs I wanted, I was always limited in what I could imagine and design. LEGO UNIVERSE took away that hurdle and allowed me to really open up my mind. One particular item, exclusive to LU, was the need to think of things from a minifig perspective. The build couldn't just look cool, it had to be fun to play with...as a minifig. I think that fact alone is what really excited me about digital building. Not only could I create really cool things, but then people from all over the world could come play at the worlds I created.
Shortly after building my second property, I was invited to join a select group of builders known as the LEGO UNIVERSE PARTNERS (LUP). I participated in LUP exclusive build contest and got to share my ideas about the build experience directly with the LU team. In August of 2011, I even got a chance to go to PLAY WELL STUDIOS in Denver to me the entire team that was working on LU.
One thing for certain was that building in Lego Universe required a lot of patience and some knowledge. One major thing that you may see in my style is that almost all studs are covered with a tile. The game rated your build with what was known as the PR rating. The higher the PR, the longer it took to load and the less stable the game environment was. One was to keep the PR down, was to tile all exposed studs.
Lego Universe also allowed us to "float" bricks in mid air. It was really handy and allowed us to do a few things we could never do with real bricks.
I really hope some day to get back involved in building. Unfortunately, I'm a bit on the poor side to invest in creating a MOC just for the sake of creating it. I hope to learn of build competitions and opportunities to improve my skills in this art medium.
