Somewhere on the left side of the internet sits a small group of people like me, microscale space ship builders that live in a world all our own.
Various influences come from MechWarrior, Activision's BattleZone I & II, Star Wars (of course), Star Trek, Star Blazers (really old show), Battle of the Planets, Battlestar Galactica, Aliens, Prometheus, anything with cool ships in it.... etc.
I don't believe lego space ships being all smooth and "must have" EVERY SINGLE NUB covered with some annoying flat piece. Greebles, etc. are always neat but to me, the minute you start classifying something as a good build based solely on how annoyingly smooth it is and not for the imagination that it took to make it... you've lost the whole point of legos.
My builds are almost junkyard builds and they don't have to conform to someone's idea of a good build.
For reference, in my world, people here are as tall as one of the bumps on a brick.
