It's possible, although it doesn't happen very often. The first time you can do it, is in Moria where you can play Ori's last minutes in the Chamber of Khazad-dum.

That sounds cool. You probably have to have paying access to do that right?

No, as Michael said, the main quest is entirely free, but unfortunately without paying it does take awhile to be the right level to do those quests, but absolutely everything is free up until you get to the Lone Lands. I think Rivendell is the first place you have to pay for. I am not really sure though, I bought the Isengard expansion which came with Eregion, Moria, Mirkwood and of course Isengard.

You have to pay for the quests, but you don't have to pay to go there.

To be honest I didn't pay for many regions in the game. The only one I payed for is North-downs. One of the best things about the game is that you can do deeds in every region you unlocked and get points when they're done. I always played the free quests, but with the points from the deeds I unlocked many new regions. (sadly not all of them, but I unlocked Forochel, Evendim, Enedwaith and the Great River without paying anything for it)

Cool! Though the deeds don't give you many points they are still useful. How much do new regions cost?

They updated LOTRO yesterday, so there was a server downtime. I wasn't able to enter either, and I had to leave the game for the server downtime. Now it should work again. :)

Congrats! I also did a lot of skirmishes in the past to reach the next level, when I got out of normal quests. They're quite fun, but they're getting boring if you do them too often. There are also some Mirkwood and Moria skirmishes, but my favorite one is still Gondamon.

But you should, it's really awesome! In the skirmishes you have your own soldier who follows you in battle. You can also decide about the race, haircolor and clothes/weapons of your soldier.

how do you change appereance?

You must go to the skirmish-places in middle-earth. One is on the right side of Thorin's Halls. One of the people their sells them, but they're hard to find. (The symbol for it looks like a piece of paper, but it really changes their appearance) After you unlocked one of them you can go to the guitar symbol in Thorin's Halls and change your soldier's race.

Maybe your internet connection wasn't so good or maybe they're editing the servers. You should try it again later.
