Gandalf. is. a. freaking. ANGEL!!!!!
Gandalf is cool!.... And yes... He's an Angel. Tolkien was a christian... so he used the god and the angels of his own religion and changed their names, because he didn't want to invent gods he didn't believed in.
Iluvatar = God
Morgoth/Melkor = the devil
Manwe = Michael (an mighty archangel who fought against Melkor)
Maiar = angels
balrogs = demons/devils
Valar (Aule, Mandos, Ulmo, Varda, Yvanna....) = archangels
Istari (Maiar: Gandalf, Saruman....): angels Permalink | December 9, 2010, 10:15 am |

Gandalf. There's a great emotional effect when he "dies" and when he returns. His character is more detailed in less time, unlike Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. They all rock, of course but still. That and Gandalf is intoduced to usin the very beginning as a bright and fun loving person. He loves the fun he shares with us. Permalink | December 31, 2010, 5:18 pm |

Okay, this is a toughie. However, in my mind, LoTR math goes as follows: Favorite Character + Noah= Legolas So, now you know where I stand as of characters. I LOVE Legolas. However, if this was Gandalf vs. Legolas, Gandalf would win hands down. Permalink | November 15, 2012, 10:07 pm |

And in the book his only mentionable parts are his songs. so I still don't like him as much as the other members of the Fellowship of the Ring. Permalink | November 16, 2012, 12:36 pm |

I agree with Deus, Gandalf is a much more complex character than Legolas in the LOTR films and novels. However, you never know where Peter Jackson will take Legolas' character in The Hobbit movies. Overall, Gandalf has a greater effect on Middle-Earth and is a more famous individual, known practically everywhere: the Shire knows him as the firework man, the wizards know him as Gandalf the Grey, the Elves trust him, and even the Eagles and Ents show him respect. While Legolas is the more "cool" character (at least in the films), I feel Gandalf is more intricate and interesting. Permalink | November 16, 2012, 11:22 pm |

I agree. His character has just so many sides to discover as only few other LOTR characters. Permalink | November 17, 2012, 5:18 am |

I would choose Gandalf because he is such a main and interesting character. He pretty much began the Journey of the Fellowship,because if he didn't bring Bilbo,what would have happened? And Legolas is a great character, At first I didn't like him in the books but I started to like him,once he became a more important character in the Fellowship. The movie makes him awesome which really cool and likable. So this is a hard question, For a friend i would choose Gandalf. Permalink | November 18, 2012, 11:59 am |
