Help with sorting/organizing legos

Hi, I am somewhat new here. I enjoy building, but it takes forever to build anything because i have to dig through my giant box. I was just hoping that some people could give me some opinions on how to group pieces, and maybe some storage ideas.
Thanks, m19

First, I would just get a shoebox for every color, sort them by color, then get smaller tubs and sort them by piece and color. I would get a thing with various sized drawers. Hope this helps! God Bless ~ David.

Thanks for the advice! I'll see how much I can get done, with my tiny attention span...

Hey there and welcome to mocpages!

Here's a link to how I had things orgainized a couple years ago:
http://mocpages.com/moc.php/154746

You can see an updated pic on my homepage about half way down of how things are set up now. It's not an indepth post, just a single pic. You'll find as you go along that sorting and storage is really an organic process. It'll just keep growing and evolving as your collection grows and your needs and building styles change and adapt.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

Where do you get those things with all the small drawers that everyone seems to have for their LEGO collection? I'm thinking of sorting my LEGO collection soon - I have 1800 unsorted pieces - and having one or two of those would definitely come in handy. I was going to use my Bionicle canisters but I dont have nearly enough of them for all the different pieces I have.

I like to use Askro brand drawers for small drawer storage. There are several other brands of a similar sort, however, available at hardware stores and places like Target, Walmart, etc. Look in tool sections rather than storage sections for the small drawers. If you're interested in something with larger drawers, then many of us will use various brands of plastic drawers that you can find in the storage sections of stores like Walmart, Meijer, and the like.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! The next time I'm at one of those stores I will definitely look into buying one or two of those.
