How was Disneyworld?

I've never been, unfortunately, but I have been to Disneyland about a gazillion times...

So, yeah, is legit or what?

In my opinion (just an opinion mind you) Disneyworld trumps Disneyland ANY day of the week! If anyone's interested, I posted pics of the trip on Flickr: (since I don't post Lego there... at least it's good for something)

AWESOME! Thanks for asking! I don't know how many of you younger crowd will actually understand why, but my favorite part of the trip was hearing my daughter sing (their songs) to the princesses. Just melted my heart and as you all know, it's ice cold to begin with.

Thanks for the welcome back guys! Now... where the (BLEEP) are my bricks!??! I'm getting the shakes from not building!

Best piece of advice I can give on rock work is this. Start at the top and work your way down. I know it sounds weird but I swear, I could never do rockwork to save my life. Then one day, I "had" to start at the top (to make the rockwork fit with the rest of the build) and it just flowed so much better. For some reason, I dunno... maybe the natural flow of water down a hillside that created the rock in the first place (in the real world) just makes the technique work. Strange... try it and let me know! Oh yeah, and you'll need slopes... lots and LOTS of slopes. Good luck!

Hmm, that working from the top strategy make a lot of sense, I tried from the bottom up and hit a bunch of road blocks. And I'll need a bunch more slopes if I want to make bigger formations.

I dont know if you heard but the Dan Jezek owner and founder of Bricklink(aka CrackLink) recently passed away I'm sure you know as well as I and most of the mocers here that this man has had a not only a profound impact on this hobby but has had the single greatest influence on the community since the introduction of the brick we know to day made in 1954. I'd like to make a thread here to inform the people here of his passing, I had obtained the permission of one Mark Kelso to make a thread to commemorate his passing on however you have blocked the ability for regular members to make threads so can you make it? I didn't block new threads, we just don't want people to do it. However, since Mark gave you the OK, then by all means. Of course it's not really "needed" as all of us here know about what happened to him. Truly a sad day when someone is taken so young and unexpectedly.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. The community lost a great friend with his passing.

The wall construction is just a wall. To make it curve and "stay curved" I just used jumper plates at either end to hold the ends in place.

Honestly, I'm going to have to say no, not really. It's basically just a "popularity contest" that'll only start flame wars and cause problems. Also, the end result wouldn't really "DO" anything.

I see where it could be fun, but I truly believe that it would cause more harm than good in the long run. Sorry to be such a downer but it's my honest opinion.

Gotcha. My idea was for people to make campaign MOCs, and then the final two of each group could be sorted into two parties (Repubrickans and DeMOCrats), when they would have a MOCoff, to be voted on by the other members. Still say no? Not trying to pull an In Your Face here, considering I didn't provide much detail, but I would just like to learn your opinion of the idea now.

Also, not to be rude, but aren't "AFOL of the Year", "TFOL of the Year", etc. of the MOCcies popularity contests, too?

See now, what you said there makes a bit more sense.

When I checked out the group it looked to me like it was a group set up to "promote" people to posistions of power within mocpages. What you're describing now is more of a mocoff type contest. Two totally different things.

The MOCies aren't designed to place people in positions of power either. They are the awards show for the year. Again, these are totally different concepts.

Perhaps if you were to change the group description (and you may have already, I haven't checked it) to show that it's a mocoff style game instead of something designed to have people think they're in charge of things, then perhaps it would go over better.

Good luck!

I'm going to have to politly decline. I've just got way too much on my plate right now (a Christmas build, the toys for tots charity, Nick's contest, another "BIG" project that I'm trying to get running, Brickworld 2011 (yes, already) not to mention mocpages in general...) I'm still playing catchup from the week I was gone! A mod's work is never done.

Now, let's talk about your description of the group.

"I recently had an idea to hold elections, kind of like the MOCy awards, but the winners of the election would be President of MOCpages (Sean's still dictator, mind you), governor of the age group, etc."

You say here that the winner would be "President of MOCpages." This is where you're starting to run into a problem. It really looks like what you want to do is put someone in a position of "power" within the pages. Perhaps just make it "President of the group" and you'd be on a better track there.

In any case, best of luck!

Hey Chris what do you do for the Toys for Tots charity?

It's all set up by Nannan through his Bricklink store. What happens is he asks moccers to build something to donate and then people can bid on them through his site. All the proceeds go to Toys for Tots. It's a great program that I'm proud to be a part of!

Now, the only trick is figuring out what to build and donate... I've got a couple ideas but none of them are really making me go "Wow yeah, that's it!"

I'll put some more thought into it over the weekend (since I don't have any time to actually build this weekend) and try to get something together within the next 10 days or so.

Once it's done, I'll of course post it here on the pages with a link to the Bricklink store. Of course ask your parents first, but anyone will be able to bid on it and own it! Last year, Lee Jones won the auction for my moc and it's now in his grubby little hands.

Hope that helps clear it all up!

And not to beat a dead horse here but...

As for the whole "Keller" incident. I've removed him from this group and advised the county 60 group of what happened here (although they were already well aware of what was going on).

Long story short, the kid didn't take into consideration that it's part of my job to know when people aren't being 100% truthful. I called him on it, he decided to not own up to his mistakes and that's that.

So please, don't respond to this or make more of an issue out of it. We all know what happened and we all know that his attitude and actions won't change. Consider the issue closed for the time being unless he makes it more of one. Thanks everyone.

The POLICE, per se, don't. The school administrators, on the other hand, do. And it varies. Sometimes it's software, sometimes it's an ISP thing. Needless to say, trying to bypass it will get you in serious trouble.

First, break them down to save space, then store them like, under a bed or in the back of the closet against the wall (be careful though, Mark takes up a lot of room back there). Hang on to them until June, then bring em to brickworld and I'm SURE someone will want them.

That's of course if you don't just toss em (I know you said you didn't want to but... it's still an option)

Truly to find them a good home, just hold on to them till June and we'll find them a loving family... wait, we're still talking about boxes right?

LEGO set boxes? By break them down, do you mean flatten them? I'd suggest stacking them. Stick the smaller ones within each other-that's what I do with my new ones. With my old ones (other than BIONICLE canisters, which are in a few huge grocery bags-paper, please), I just stack them downstairs. And Callan-I beat you to it. I made one in my Future Phipcycle. Why do my builds suck, Lord Master Phipson?

Umm dude... they don't! I just checked out your page and you've got some really nice work there!

Of course, if you'd like to define the word "suck" then we're going to have to go a little deeper. For one, if you were to compare yourself to the High Lord Kelso well... still I wouldn't say you "sucked." The thing you have to realize there is that Kelso (and a lot of other AFOLS) have more brick, time and experience and can therefor crank out some larger creations (brick) that have a lot more detail (time and experience) than some of the younger builders.

You, my young padawan, don't "suck" by any stretch of the imagination. You're actually very good! Now, do you want to get better? Of course you do! My advice is to just take what you have (brick wise) and slow down a bit. This of course coming from the guy that's been called one of the faster builders in the hobby doesn't mean much I know, but that's the starting point.

Take a step back and look... I mean REALLY look at each creation you make. Where could it be improved on, where could you change out just one brick to really make it THAT much better? This kind of thinking will really help you in the long run. That and do LOTS of chores around the house. Parents LOVE that kind of thing and the better you are at home, the more Lego you will get (generally speaking) and then your collection will grow and you'll be able to make bigger and better mocs!

Keep on bricking! You're on the right track!
