What's your favorite theme to build?

That's a toughy. When I first started moccing, it was star wars and sci fi. But as I went along, I started drifting towards town more and more. And of course, as you've recently seen, I began dabbling in castle as well.

I guess, and I know it's not really a "theme" in the general sense, but my fav would have to be "story telling" in whatever fashion that may be. I don't truly have a FAVORITE theme. I just build what the muse tells me to.

Now, if you're going to back me into a corner and make me say one theme, I think I've had the most fun with Sci-Fi, so for lack of actually having a true fav, we'll go with that for the time being... or maybe town, no castle no...

hahaha

The nitwit is MOCpages's own....the infamous Commander Marks. He was banned like a year ago, though.

I found mocpages about 3 years ago (give or take) and started just like any other fan. As for how I (and Mark actually) became a moderator is a quick story. Basically, Sean was being overwhelmed with all the work doing it himself. He was also about to go on vacation for a couple of weeks and wouldn't have access to a computer. He needed help. Mark and I were (and for some reason still are) respected members of the community with a track record for being responsible, fair and trustworthy so he asked is we'd like the job. Bam, end of story.

That and we bribed him... totally. hahaha

While building in the magi-punk genre I have realized how fun although unappreciated it is. I was thinking that maybe some builders from mocpages should make a small collaboration display at Brickworld 2011 highlighting magipunk creations. I don't know how one would do that, but 1. is it possible, and 2. Would any of the judges going to Brickworld 2011 care to join?I think that a magipunk collaboration build would be cool, unique and fun.

Yeah, that would be fun. We've actually got a HUGE collabortive effort going on right now for BW2011 but I don't see why we couldn't do something else like this... depending on how much brick we have left over from this other project (yes, it's that big and no, we can't tell you sorry hahaha).

We'll keep this idea on the back burner for a bit shall we? But keep it in mind... I like it.

It's strange though. It's SO much better than all your other work that there's a small part of me that wonders if you built it? Of course you did, I'm not accusing you of anything so don't worry. My question though is why don't you build great stuff like this more often?!!?

Nice use of the Spybotics "core"-it may be "prefab" but it looks awesome.

Yeah, add to that the nice greeb work he added and the pic quality and clean background. Even with that "prefab" element it's still head and shoulders above the rest.

I mean, what makes his opinon so much more esteemed than someone elses? Granted, he is a pretty good builder (well, good by my standards, Kelso still has you beat, though :P), and he's pretty neutral when it comes to critiquing, but I just don't get why you're all clammoring 'CHRISTALLMEWUTMAIBEZTMACHIZPLZ'...

As strange as it may seem, Phaze does have a point here.

While I'm more than happy to give my opinion to anyone, the ONLY person you should be trying to impress is yourself. If YOU are happy with something, that's really all that matters.

Sure some of you may consider me a "big shot" around here, but in reality, I'm just a dude that likes Lego. I'm by no means an "expert" on the subject, but I have been around enough to know what's good and what's... not so good.

In the end though, you should all realize that my opinion is just that, an opinion. And as the late Patrick Swayze said in Road House, "opinions vary."

Now Phaze, on the flip side of this coin, these kids come to me to ask my opinion BECAUSE of the above stated reasons as well. I don't elevate myself on a pedestal but I do know a little bit about this hobby. Sure I'm not as studied in line and texture as Kelso or in architecture like Kaleta or mechanics like Kescenovitz, but I hold my own in those regards.

Also I know that I'm nowhere near the skill level of builders like Goldman, Kaleta, Leda, Nannan, Sean, I Scream Clone or many, MANY others (the list could go on forever here) but I've got a decent understanding of how bricks go together. These kids come to me for advice because the only way you learn, is to learn from someone who knows more than you and knows what they're talking about (or in my case, someone who fakes it well ;) ). Oh, and let's not forget the most important reason they come to me with questions... I take the time to answer them.

(and you thought your post was long hehe)

Oh, no, I completely get what your saying, I just think it's different when someone asks for advice, but then asks what you think their favorite Moc is. One is asking to be given advice, and the other is just for them to feel good about themselves, least that's how I'd see it. I'm not saying it's a bad thing to do, but I'm just not promoting it either.

I only asked to see what techneque (hope I spelled that right) I used best.

That's totally up to you and what you think would give you a better shot at winning. As I'm not judging this round I feel I can answer your question. In MY opinion, I'd rather see a dio than individual builds. Just seems more complete to me. But then again... I'm not a judge for this round. Good luck man!

First, that line "in case of fire use stairs" actually gave me a good chuckle. Nice.

Sure it's a "simple" and smaller build, but something about it just stood out to me. Nice work there.
