Do you guys... have any... advice... of being... a father? Because I'm near that time. (I didn't do THAT if that's what you're thinking.) I'll be AFOL next year, and life is about to hit me, hard. All the things my parents do, I'll do very soon. But one thing I've always wanted, was a son. And I'll do everything for him.

You are 17, you have a lot of time, do not rush into being a father. Go to college, get your education, get a good job and worry about being a father later. I am sure your parents would tell you the same.

Mr. Bones spelled it out nicely. While some will argue college is not for everybody, it is still one of the better life decisions. It will come in handy when your son asks you the meaning of life or some other nebulous question(s).

That's a little simplistic view of it but basically he's right.

What it is, is that I don't feel that that kind of talk (religion, politics or things of that nature) have any place on a Lego website and the thought of people trying to force their views of those types of subjects (whether they're pushing the CFOL on me OR saying that the entire universe is an accident, either way it doesn't matter) on people who are just here to enjoy Lego really kinda eerks me.

So yes, I do have very strong beliefs about religion (but which way is the question I won't answer in a public forum), but you're not gonna hear me forcing them down anyone's throat. Those types of decisions are for the individual to decide on their own, not for a kid on a Lego website to force on them.

Just my opinion.

You kinda need an instruction-driven class for that unless you are very good in self-study.

Designing is something I am good at. But, where I live, there aren't anything for that area. (My pastor is an engineer, but no engineering jobs here.)

Ah, but there are engineering jobs that can be done in the comfort of your home. One does not have to sit in a cubicle anymore. You can also freelance.

Dude, if you've never listened to any advice I've ever given before, listen to me here. Don't even THINK about this. You're WAY too young to even consider being a father. My wife and I waited about 10 years before having a kid, and I still don't think we were ready.

I often enjoy jumping in on on-going jokes about other people, even though I have no idea what's going on. With you, for instance, all I know is there's something about a Sous Chef being a real chef, even though Bones does not believe it to be the case.

At any rate, I fix a mean Ramen bowl. You don't even want to know.

HA! Youngster. I havn't been called that since....well since my 23rd birthday....

Anyway, I've had my share of less-than-pleasurable items left at my doorstep. My soccer teammates once stole the town "Big Boy" (like the actual Big Boy statue) and left it in my yard during high school. We laughed for weeks. A bag of dog pellets doesn't intimidate me the least-even considering whatever it is that your Oregon-dwelling, hookah-smoking Raider fans feed them. Actually that does sound a bit frightening...

This sounds suspiciously like the whole concept of Disney channel corrupting the minds of little children with images that high school is all about love, parties and drama.

What now? Will we have 7 year old girls looking forward to having... Er, yeah.

I'm only thirteen, but I can assure you that those thoughts shouldn't cross your mind until you experience them for yourself. "Don't go pick out a cane when you're thirty", is what I'm saying.

But the being a father has been on my mind for.... about two-three years. It's the ole "what if" moment. Like what if I will be a father someday.
My advice; keep it in the holster, and let the head that's on your shoulders do the thinking. For now, concentrate on your schoolwork and other important things so you can prepare yourself for what's down the road. (Whatever that may be.)

Bob, what's taking the MOCies so long to come about? And don't say "life", we all know that won't work :D

As I'm sure you've read through all the info on the MOCie Awards site, you'll no doubt already know that the last day for voting is the Wednesday after BrickWorld (June 23rd). (what, you didn't read it? For shame...)

Of course, then there's tallying the votes and putting them into MOC form to be posted.

If you (or anyone else) hasn't voted yet, get going! 10 days left to get those votes in! If you don't know where the MOCie group is, there's a link on my homepage.

Since I have been unable to create anything of value for the last couple of weeks due to a lazy BL order, I've been thinking (DUN DUN DUN!): So, uhh...you know these ads? Like that one up there ---^ And that one over there----> And the one below it? And the one below that? Yeah. Hey, those are all real cool--I mean, I know that whenever I'm building, I'm totally in the mood to check out my credit score, or get portfolio advice, and we all know I'd just love to join that "harem" in club Ivory or whatever it's called. Anywho, since we all despise them so much, has Sean ever considered a sponsorship program? I work with them all the time through work. Typically, the way it works is people who choose so can pay a yearly or semi-yearly fee to be a "sponsor." Nothing big, mind you...I'm just saying 5 or 10 bucks. They usually get something in return, like a nifty hat, or special "access" on the website, etc. Anyway, the revenue can sometimes be used to pay for the website, eliminating the need for ads. I'm really just blabbing here--I don't know if anyone would even pay for such a thing, or if it would even generate sufficient revenue--but, just food for thought...

I have 2 questions... ...

-Is there going to be MOColympics this year?

-Plus (Another thing about the MOColympics) I looked up "2010 MOVolympics" in the groups area. It said there is a planning page. Could I have some more info on that?

Hey Joe,

The MocOlympics is my baby. Of course I COULDN'T do it without Kelso's help but I'll field that question.

Yes, there WILL be a MocOlympics this year. I don't have an exact date yet on when it's going to start. Most likely sometime in September (give or take). The set up will start a couple of weeks before the games start. I'll start a group for it when the time comes and I'll also provide a link and info here in the advice group (and some other places) to get the word out.

Last year, we had a little over 120 people sign up to play. Now granted, about half of them flaked out in the first round and dropped out... but I'm hoping to have even MORE players this year! Spred the word, tell your friends, take out billboard space, invest in skywriting, let's make this the BIGGEST MocOlympics EVER!

Oh, and was that a typo about the moVolympics? if it was and you meant moColympics, then I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about... come to think of it, either way... I don't know what you're talking about. Do you have a link to this group?

I've seen (and used) this sort of tactic to get rid of trolls before. It's not pretty when sockpuppets get involved, but it's definitely effective.

No I'm actually friends with everyone else, I was (and now again) friends with K L A Y, I was there as a diplomat to stop the warring between the G.F.o.F.W. and DARX, now I treid to stop the fighting, everyone else had come to their senses to stop drama, but I had to bring in Chris to stop the fighting.

That depends on your level of involvment. If you're just going for the public days, then just be sure you save your pennies and have a full battery charge on your camera. If you're going to be there as a registered attendee, I suggest figuring out what you're going to build now and start working on it. That's about it unless unless you have any specific questions?

Not sure which comment you're talking about. You have to remember, there are a LOT of words that trigger moderation, many of which most people have no clue why they're on the list (there's some I don't get either, but I didn't make the list).

Just rest assured that as long as it's within mocpages rules, I'll always let it through.

Do you have any tips on how to make the insides of buildings look more like inside of a building with stuff like wall posters, TVs, furniture, etc. Also, do you have any tips for making good cars? Hmm? I'm waiting!

That's a toughy. And since you're being so patient... maybe I'll answer you tomorrow. HAHAHAHA

Seriously though, for cars, I have NO clue. My advice would be to check out Ferras' page for that stuff. That man is a car MANIAC!

For interiors, I suggest checking out Dylan B's latest zombie post. The work he did on the interior of the office building was AWESOME! Also, I suggest building the furniture and what not before you build the room itself. That way, you can build the room to suit the furniture and don't have to worry about it ending up too crowded.

Hope that helps and good luck to ya! If you need anything else, let me know! Always glad to help.

I'm not a huge WW2 fan myself, so I don't have a lot of advice for you on the story line. Where I can help, is the builds. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but I think if you scaled down your attempted size just a bit and used your bricks to make smaller, yet more "complete" scenes, it would really pop! What you've got going on now kinda gives the impression that you're trying to make the sets too big for your collection and what you're trying to bring across gets lost in the translation.

Reel it in a bit on the size and close in your sets to give it a more "real life" feel.

Good luck!

Ohh THAT comment... yeah, that needed moderation. But as you can see, I let it through. And don't worry about me and "fame." I'm not hung up on it. Kelso seriously DESERVES all the attention he gets and more! Again, I don't hold a grudge about it or anything... look at who won AFOL of the year (snicker).

Simple answer... carefully. You think I'm joking, but I'm not. I was privvy to no less than 5 individual stories about people hearing that dreaded "crunch" when they stopped too quickly at a traffic light. The good thing is that when you get there, you're at a Lego convention and everyone has at least a small iota of building skill and we're all happy to help out where ever we can when someone's in need.

Haha that was just a mistake by me ;)

Anyway, I think it should start early August because of how school is starting. That's just my point of view, though I could figure out a way to use time if you can't make it start in August... *pant**pant*

I don't think I'm going to college, (I am more a nerd. But I do want to do CAD. Computer Aided Design. Where you can design anything using a computer. Including LEGO sets if you want. But it's more for important things.) Designing is something I am good at. But, where I live, there aren't anything for that area. (My pastor is an engineer, but no engineering jobs here.) But if I happen to work at McD's, I'll be THE most generous employee in the franchise! (I would.)

Ewww... I h*te McD's for some odd reason. So... salty. And so gross. Besides my mom wouldn't let me eat that stuff anyway. she makes me eat ALL ORGANIC (unless it's a special occasion.) Like today, The 4th of July, Independence Day.

The same thing as when you have eggs from the grocery store. (Except eggs splatter, but Lego® doesn't.)

Popularity is a tricky thing. There are a number of great builders that don't have the popularity they deserve and then there's a lot of not so great builders that have way too much. Then there's the middle of the road builders that hover somewhere in between the two.

Everyone wants to be liked, it's human nature. But to get noticed around MOCpages takes something... else. The intangible.

First, to get noticed you need to have something that people want to look at. Now, I've been known to give the "clonekiddies" a hard time but let's take a look at that subgroup for a second shall we? It's not just the "builds" that give them a bad name, it's the attitude that goes with it. Avoiding this type of behaviour (and I won't go in to it here since I've spoken at great lenghts on the subject in other places) is your first step to gaining respect in the eyes of the community. I see by how you worded your question that this isn't going to be a problem for you so, moving on.

The builds. I checked out your page and I see that you DO have potential to build (the fridge was one example) but that most of your posts consist of minifigs on a plate with little else. Now, I'm not going to tell you that you have to build "apocalypsis" to gain respect, but you got parts when you picked up the sets that those figs came in right? Use them. It's the bane of the MOCpagers existence that we want to post as quickly as we can to get the feedback that our primitive human minds so richly need. We must avoid this urge to post for postings sake and wait till we have something WORTH posting.

I've also noticed that a lot of people want to do story mocs. MOCpages is THE best place to tell stories with Lego because of the page set up. This however shouldn't be a free license to post 40 chapters of a comic that is a bunch of figs on a plate. I would much rather see a 1 or 3 part story that has nice builds, than have to read through 40 different posts of figs on plates.

I've rambled on enough here so I'll try to sum it up for you as best I can. Take your time. Get out there and be nice to people. Don't post for postings sake. Popularity isn't going to happen over night (or even within a month or two). It takes time and building your reputation. Best of luck to you and if I can help out with anything else (or if this didn't answer your question well enough) feel free to ask.

~Chris.

I checked it out and here's what I think. First, your story line has a LOT of potential. I can see this guy having to end up fighting his former friends at some point. The story's good and the writing is above average for most builders of your age group so keep it up.

Moving on to the build... Yeah, you know what I'm going to say don't you? If you read through the advice I just gave on popularity a moment ago, you'll see that the biggest problem facing young builders is the urge to post something NOW! Get it out there to the masses as quickly as you can so you can get the feedback that you want.

My advice here would be to put some more time and detail in to your builds. A good rule of thumb here could be that if it takes you more time to shoot and load the pics than it did to build the moc, you didn't take enough time building it.

Your builds have a good concept behind them, but they lack the detail that makes things POP. I understand that you don't have a 20,000 part collection to work with and that's fine, use what you DO have to make the build more intersting. A good story (on MOCpages anyway) isn't going to get the attention it deserves without an equally good build to go with it.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thanks Chris! I totally get what you are saying about the rushing to get things done. He will also tie into my other story I need to work on more, Redemption. Everybody says something along the lines of that about my writing. Once again Thanks, it is much appreciated! The story I actually had made up when I was posting it, I had the idea for the story but I didn't know how it would play out, funny thing was, after I typed it all up, with out saving a copy to word I hit proceed to see how the font and everything would look and it said my session timed out. I had to re-type the entire thing mostly to what I had but with a few changes. Once again, Thanks!

Woohoo, first!
Sir what moc has been the most fun to build (yes, sir I do recognize that all builds are a whole lota fun)? And which has been the hardest but most satisfying to build?

Wow, only a month turn around on your question... not bad huh? HAHAHA SO sorry about this. I actually had to think about it and then totally lost track. My apologies.

Most fun to build huh? You know, the most fun I've had with any of my builds in the recent past was with my "waterlogged" moc. The build itself wasn't difficult by any means of course, but it was what happened after that really made it for me. My daughter LOVED playing with it! She would sit there and slide the thing down over and over. That for me was the mos fun, watching my daughter play with the moc.

As for most challenging but rewarding? Gonna have to go with my 5 man action post from the MocAthalon. It had a lot of different sets for the post and each of them incorporated something new for me that I hadn't worked with before. The end result was something that I was very happy with (even if the judges snubbed me with the score of 19... totally should have got a 20 for that bad boy).

Again, sorry for the MAJOR delay on this one. I'll try to get the next question out to you sooner... let's shoot for 3 weeks next time huh?
