Ask Phipson... 6.0
Mr. Phipson, You often mention your 'work computer'. Unless it's too personal or nosy or something, what do you do on the computer as an officer?

Paperwork. 95% of policing is forms, applications and reports.

Areetsa has a bit of it right, but basically I'm just waiting... Without going in to too much detail, I work for a "facility" rather than a town or county. Not a lot happens here so while I'm waiting for a call for service, I pass through here and drop a comment or two... or 6.

Actual question:
I have been thinking about Photoshop for a while now, because I still can't take PERFECT pictures, but when I looked up the price it said the most recent version can be SIX HUNDRED dollars. Is it actually that expensive? Also, another question: Is this completely off topic? I'm not really sure.

Actually no, it's not off topic. I've been meaning to give my two cents on Photoshop for a while now. Of course, the main person to ask here would be Kelso. As for the price, I really have no clue what it runs these days. Easiest way to find out is to just go to like "Best Buys" website and search it there. That should give you a good ball park on the price.

Now, when photoshop is used, it can either be amazing, or a disaster. Mark actually offered to do some photo shop work on some pics I sent him of my latest project to see if it would look better with the photoshop work done on it. He hasn't gotten it back to me yet of course (I just sent him the pics a couple days ago) but it really got me to thinking...

While photoshop truly enhances your moc when used correctly, some people just don't have the skill or money (if the price is really 600 bucks) to go that route. I've kind of been proud of the fact that all of my mocs (with very little exception. There's a few that I added text to and things like that) are "what you see is what you get" posts.

What you see on the post is what was in the viewfinder of the camera when I took the picture. Basically what I'm saying there is that anyone with a lamp and patience can make their posts look just like mine WITHOUT the need of photoshop.

I've gone off on a tangent here... everyone see where I'm going with this train of thought?

I think Kelso uses photoshop elements. It should be around $100 +/- depending if there's a sale. The $600 version is the pro version, which has about a lot of things you probably will never use.

Sure, Here's a brief history...

A long time ago, on a mocpage not too far away... call it two years or so, I created the first "Moc-Off" between myself and Shannon Ocean. Now, people had been having Lego contests since long before I came along, but I came up with the term "Moc-Off" for mine and ShannO's little contest. Flash forward a couple of months and a few others had had their own "Moc-Offs" and a few had even challenged me to them. But I wanted more. I surmized that like in nature, for an organism to survive, it must evolve. So I decided that I wasn't going to accept a moc-off challenge from just one person, nor was I going to challange any single person. I was going to challange as many as would sign up!

That's when the idea for the MocOlympics was born. The first year, we only had 32 players. This last year, it grew to about 130!

So the short answer is this. The MocOlympics are basically just a moc-off on 'roids. Hope that helps clear it up and remember... there may be a pop quiz on this next Tuesday so I hope you were taking notes.

Ryan, I picked up Photoshop Elements 8 at Costco for about 80.00 on Kelso and Dennis Price's advice. Well worth it, I am having a great time playing with the program, still not very good yet, but the more one uses it, the better one gets with it, at least that is what she sai....um, forget it. I'd suggest trying the free stuff out first, getting the hang of it, and then making your decision as to whether or not you really need the $600 software.

Well you can trust that I won't blow 5 years of allowance on Photoshop, so I'd much rather go with a less advanced version. I don't want TONS of editing, just some to clean up my pictures a bit extra.

At the top of the page, where it says 'Welcome Back', your name and sign out, is the 'help' button. This takes you to a page where you can click on a link that talks about how to post pics on your homepage. It is different from posting pics in your MOC, as the pic must already have an internet address.~H

Spambot.

I've reported at least ten of them myself, over the last year.

We get a lot more of them than you think.

Just be happy they can't comment; if they could, we'd have "bigger, longer, stronger! herbal mix guaranteed to work!" everywhere.

The funny thing is, they don't really have a clue about the Mocpages site. I found one once that was advertising baby formula. When I stopped laughing I reported it through the help tag at the top of the page, of course. You can't really get rid of them; when they're caught they'll just switch over to one of the other people in the sales dept. of wherever they work. Like flies or mosquitos.

It doesn't matter what they are, people will post them anyway.

I keep telling them that they're breaking the rules, but they just say 'this is lego' "No it isn't." 'yes it is' "Lego is plastic and has 'lego' printed on it. " 'you print it and it goes in the lego that makes it lego'.

*sigh*

Go and read the entire description of how the categories are being chosen...

and THEN... realize that the judges ARE (already talked to them about this) going to be making additions.

You do know there's not a "pun" category in the MocAthalon right? At least not yet... HAHAHAHA

I just can't resist making puns; the worse they are, the better. But I promise to do it again

A Pun category would make me immediately join. Cheesy is what I do best.

Is being very capable of writing absolutely horrible puns a 'best' skill or a 'worst' skill?

That's a good question...
I'll stick with 'best' until I find a suitable replacement skill.

Hey let me see... ouch! 1d4 fire damage from sunlight!

Alas, poor Count Vonthakula. I knew him well, Horatio...

Or something like that. Shakespeare isn't my strong suit.

[Joking] Definition: proportional relation of the number of co-eds attending a frat party compared to the number of "bros" who are there.

Example: "I don't like the Horatio at this party - I'm not sticking around if it's just gonna be a sausage-fest."

OK.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Anyone between the ages of 13 and 17 is a TFOL. Once you hit 18, you're considered an AFOL. 12 and younger is a YFOL.

Tee-hee! That was quite humorous, thanks for the laugh, Shannon! Why doesn't the Ocean get an 'ASK' thread?

Ok so I was talking to Deviss in his "Ask" group and I gave him a suggestion that he should make it original format. Then Flare came along and said some random stuff and then banned me from HIS "ask" group, and left mine. SMS?

I'll forgo the joke about you starting a "pointless" thread (that's the name he used for the thread that he started) and just get down to the issue...

What's your question again?

Well basically Flare just randomly banned me for no reason. IDK if you can do anything about it but I did nothing.

Sorry no, there's nothing we can do about that. It's his group so his rules, whatever those rules may be.

So each and every group is totally independent of the others?

Everything has exceptions. That's it, in this case.

And that's not really an exception either, since LDD is put out by Lego. It's as valid and acceptable as Duplo, Belville or Bionicle. (I'm not disagreeing with you, Areesta, but pointing this out to him.)
