Chris,

I didn't know you did martial arts, though I think I recall reading somewhere on the pages that you worked for law enforcement. Anyway, you post in the other conversation caught my interest, as I am currently studying Criminal Justice to go into a law-enforcement career. Currently, my plan is to get my degree, sign on with a nearby city’s police department, work as a cop for a few years to get experience (studying Forensic Psychology when I’m off-duty), and then apply for the FBI to become a Special Agent, and eventually a Supervisory Agent at the National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime at Quantico, VA.

You're much more ambitious than I ever was. Best of luck to you with that. Just be careful which department you sign on with. I've still got a bad taste in my mouth (shut it Kelso) from my first department.

Good luck dude!

Phipson,

I am completely drawing a blank for my next MOC, any topics or specific ideas you'd want to see?

Ok. Here's what I got. I took a look at your page and most of it revolves around military creations (not a bad thing to build, but stick with me on this). One of the things that I found that REALLY improved my building was to build outside of my comfort zone. Pick a theme that I knew NOTHING about and try to replicate it.

That being said, I'd like to see you try something the exact OPPOSITE of miltary. Try building a suburban house. Front yard, back yard, satelite dish on the roof, the whole nine yards. Heck, try to add a slide set for the kids in the back.

Hey, you asked hehehe. Good luck!

Hey Phipson, do you know where to get backrounds for pictures?

Phipson I have been wondering if you may take a look at some of my styles and building ideas and maybe consider having a "ask Owen" thread.

Aside from building them, what else do you mean? Are you maybe asking about foam boards or are we talking about photoshopping here? Give me a little more in your question and I'll be able to point you where you need to go.

Owen, I have looked at your stuff and you DO have some building chops going for ya. The thing about the threads here is that we're trying to keep it to builders that have a long standing reputation here on MOCpages and are also, not to sound elitist here, but adult.

Please feel free to put your input in to any question that you see here as every opinion is valid. As far as threads go, I'd like to keep it as managable as possible. Sorry.

OK, how much do foam boards cost? I found some, but I don't know if I would use them. P.S. I use huge white sheets of paper for some of my creations.

If you don't mind me jumping in here...White foam core boards will usually run $2.00 - $6.00 per sheet depending on the size and if you can find them on sale. Black boards tend to be a buck or two more most places.

Paper works great too, though, and there's no law that says you can't go with that. In fact, if the paper is draped properly where it curves smoothly from the flat part to the vertical portion, it eliminates a seam in the background. So, I'd say just roll with what looks the best and is convenient for you.

*question

Why did Sean make YOU the moderator around here Chris, is he ok, has he been drinking?

Heavily.

And sure I make a joke here and there, but most of them are over the kids heads (heck, some are even over the AFOLs heads). For those that wonder why Mark and I were made moderators, it's because of our dedication to this site and our willingness to help (ie: this group for example). We want to make MOCpages the best site it can be. That's one of the many reasons why Mark and I were made Mods.

So thats why he can afford all those bricks? Seriously though, Chris is right. The community of AFOLs and a few TFOLs really work hard to keep this site in order. It's great to have them around helping and creating groups like this.

How do we ad alot of pictures Chris Phipson ?

To add more than 8 pics to your page is actually fairly simple. Step by step:

1: Add the first 8 pics as normal.

2: (you don't HAVE to do this, I just find it makes it easier in the end) Move the html from your pics down about 5 or 6 spaces. This will help you keep track of which pics you want first on your page.

3: Click on the add pics again and load another 8 pics.

When you add these pics, they will be at the TOP of your page. If you want them to appear after the first 8 pics you loaded, then you will need to cut and paste them below the original pics. (this is why I put a space there so I can see where the end is easier)

4: Repeat this process as many times as you'd like.

The other way you can do this without having to cut and paste is to just add the last 8 pics that you want on your page first, followed by the next 8 and so on. Basically working backwords in groups of 8. Either way works.

Hope that helped.

What should I build next?

Well I looked through your page and see that you do mostly star wars and space type things. I did notice that you tried your hand at a house and a wooded area, so good job on that.

It's very easy to let others come up with an idea for you, but you'll only grow as a builder if you try to find things outside of your comfort zone and try to build that yourself.

That being said, I'll point you in a direction and you figure it out from there. That's right, I'm gonna make you work for it.

As I'm pretty sure you have mainly star wars sets and pieces, I'll keep it easy. Instead of building a spaceship or battle scene, try doing an interior of one of those ships. Please don't just put 4 blocks on a baseplate and say "I'm done. It's a venator bridge." that won't cut it here. Think outside the box. Everyone can do a bridge or weapons platform. How about the mess hall, or the engine room, or maybe the med bay? What about sleeping quarters? There's a lot of the ships that should be explored. See what you can come up with.

Good luck! ~ Chris.

im on a mac and on a windows it takes 10 seconds to load and when i resize them the pics are ugly beacause of big pixels.

Also, for an absolutely cheap and quick fix, everyone has an old poster or two lying around. Flip that puppy over and voila! instant background. Plus the reflective nature of the paper helps to light the MOC.

but the best way for a backround is a photo studio for 100 bucks,ka-ching!Maybe so maybe just a poster.:P
