Tempesta Magna
 Group admin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkvRnfH5Vtg

A realm of storms, of energy. The massive planet Tempesta Magna turns in the night sky, between its allies Aqua and Bara Magna in the constellation Ssethellus.
A massive planet, with an impossibly large atmosphere, the elemental power of air is king here. Air and fire.
The sun, Dracus, is white. As big and powerful as possible for any known star to be. The energy stirrs massive storms across the planet's surface. Clouds crash and billow. Lighting strikes are commonplace, and all but the hardiest of folk are forced to live underground.
The equator, a constant ring of fire, is devoid of all life.
The poles posess the most powerful blizzards and storms ever known, as currents carry across the massive planet. It is suicide to venture out into the ice wastes - even for two seconds.

The Cyconids, a race of makuta-like beings based on Air rather than Shadow, inhabit the surface of the world. They are intelligent, but vicious, cunning. Wasp-like, they delight in torturing prey and often hunt and kill in packs.
Cannibalism is not unheard of.
For the matoran inhabitants of the planet, the surface is a place of death. The only place of refuge are the great labyrinthine tunnels and chasms beneath the planet's surface.
Here, they scratch a living from the rock and damp. Plants can grow here - as long as they do not depend on light. Heat is drawn up from their roots to fuel their thermo-synthesis. It is on these vines and trees that the people live.

The Great Being Ezru once held command of this place, before deciding to investigate the planet's core. He was destroyed by the immense power within, thus leaving Tempesta Magna alone and un-governed.
So far, however, the matoran don't know.

Even after a half a million of Tempesta Magna's immensely long years.

Tempesta Magna posesses 17 moons - most of them other planets that ended up caught in its powerful gravitational pull. The only other planet in the solar system is Quetza - a gas giant. Its green glow never pierces the broiling cloud layer of Tempesta Magna for long, but when it does, the matoran say it is a harbinger of good tidings.

((BRACKETS!!!! Anyway, yeah. The technology lever is quite high - the tunnels are all mechanical. They have infrastructure, electricity, air-con, food synthesisers etc...
If you've ever read The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov, that's pretty similar to what Tempesta Magna is like underground. Huge cities exist in giant Karda-Nui proportion caves.
And have you ever seen Sir Nadroj's cave racers? Let's have somehting like those for people to ride around in :D

((I call anything with multiple barrels a chain gun. but mines better. You ever seen the movie the fifth element. if so, do you remember the crazy gun that you shoot one target and then no matter where the barrel of the gun was pointed all the bullets hit the same target. Same basic principle but with lasers.))

the winds howl and moan like a rabid beast.the snow is blinding
and has a rage all its own.
it is cold as death
and the slipery black ice plays reaper.
and yet someone inhabits this fridged waste-land.
he has seen many bad tidings
and lives alone. his eye mangled he lives with only one shrowded in red.
his breath can be heard for days coming and his voice coarse and dry. he wears iron pates over his face and body.machines must help him breath.he lives in the concaves of the mountain delta.he survives only on the bodies of the scruvl dog-bears.he rarely eats.
so is the life of Orbatroz, lord of the storm.

I paced through the snow out side the Entrance to the Caverns below. My underlying Thermal suit kept me from freezing in the frozen wastes while my armor deflected hunks of ice.I revved my plasma chain gun to heat the barrels and scraped the ice from it. I clicked my teeth and opened a communications link with my Snow cutter."Jak, how we doing out there?"Jak's mechanical voice crackled in my with patches of static here and there."Almost done,Sir just a few more cuts and I'm done.""Well hurry it up another blizzards gona hit in About half an hour give or take 15 minutes."

He neared the turned back of the female scurvl dog and her cubs. he held the chlorogen spears in his hand cautiously
Now was his chance! he threw the shard with precision that can only be gained from a life time of practice. it made its mark just behind the ear in the beasts thick woolly hide
.just then it reared up on it hind legs and howled the cubs were startled by this and turned around to meet his gaze. The scurvl twisted and came charging, the falling snow caught in its fur. he grabbed a spear and launched it as fast as I could-it made contact right in her vicious maw and exploded violently. This only wounded her she fell and got back to all four In an instant she was only yards away now he charged the mechanics in his remaining eye-she pounced tearing at what she thought was his fur but was probably the wool of her mate. our their gaze met he was staring right into the the gnarled teeth of hi prey right then as he thought he might not make it out his eye reached full charge and let loose a blast red energy into the animals head decapitating her...and leaving a big mess. he shoved the corpse off of him and set to work preparing it he drew his dagger and begun to strip the flesh off her bones being careful to avoid what little plates of armor there were. he tore the left hind leg and placed it on the skin this he did with all four legs then slit the belly with his dagger and pounds of guts and intestines came spilling out he saved the heart, liver and stomach. He then tore the ribs with his bare hands placing them to on the skin. he left the spine for her children to eat-he was no monster.covered in blood he attached ropes to the hide and began dragging it all back to his home

I decided to make sure my lance was still sharp, so I hefted in two of my hands, and threw it. It went through a 1 foot plate and embedded itself 3 feet deep into the wall. A techie glared at me, but I didn't care. I shot by my lance and grabbed it without even stopping.

There was a sound like thunder and i looked up the slope to see rock and ice rushing down the mountain towards Jak."JAK GET THE HXXX OUT OF THERE THE MOUNTAINS COMING DOWN."

Jak

I looked up the slope and saw a wall of white. I jumped on the snow Sled and slammed the accelerator. The sled leaped forward nearly tossing its cargo of ice and sped above the snow. The sled passed through the entrance hall just as Kore slammed the door control sealing the entrance.

Kore

"That was close, too close. We need to have along talk with the blasting crews."

A voice echoed through the intense winds surrounding Kore. "Oh I'm sorry. Did I do that?" Ice and snow whirled around, reducing visibility to almost zero. And blasting crews, would be the guys blowing holes in walls with explosives to get at soil and minerals.))"Jak take the ice back to the storage facility and purify it I'll be there shortly."As Jak rode off I leaned against a wall thinking about my past and how things could have been different. I hit a button on my gauntlet and walked down the corridors.

The cyconid swept through the blizzard towards the entrance to the tunnels, following Kore's path through the snow and ice. Bladed wings scraped on nearby ice floes.
The entrance wasn't obvious, but he saw it now, tucked away behind a small ice fall. A strange thrumming echoed through his essence as he got closer.
He touched the door with a talon, and immediately it began to glow with a sickly green light. Alarms went off throughout the base...

The cyconoid fled as soon as it had touched the door. Obviously the Cyco-repellent on it worked - but now it knew where the entrance was, it would be all too easy for it to gather its siblings and attack. A cyconoid horde on your doorstep was not to be taken lightly. One cyconoid could massacre an entire matoran community, and it only took a handful of them to destroy a war machine like the Shiva. There was a reason they ruled the surface.

Thankfully, the tunnels were safe. Every cyconoid loathed the underground, and killed themselves if they were away from the sky for any length of time.

I'd been walking through the dingy tunnels for what seemed like an eternity. I mean, sure, I'd never been above ground, but these tunnels felt...different. Water dripped from the cogs and gears working away at the roof, and I approached a massive cognical door. I swiped the panel and steam hissed from all around the frame, then the cog sprung forward and rolled to the left. Upon walking inside I suddenly felt a sense of relief: I was home. That's the last time I ever take a shortcut...

((I haven't The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov, but I sorta invisioned these tunnels like massive, cognical cave versions of the vaults from the videogame series Fallout. Is that accurate?))

The tunnel beyond was completely empty... and unfamiliar. While similar-looking to his home, this vault was completely alien to him. A strange smell hung in the air - a smell like burning tin. A wierd buzzing filled his ears - machinery trundled in the background, and the lights flickered, mimicking the great lightning storms that rocked the surface.

I approached the steel door, and searched through my bag for the key. From the bag I pulled a thin, metal card, with inscriptions of my identity upon it. I swiped it along the mechanism. Grinding and clunking sounds were made before the door slid open. I walked into the room, placed my bag on the floor and approached the bed. Time for sleep, I had a big day ahead of me tommorrow.

A single tear dripped down the eye slit of my helm, Followed by more. I sat in a corner of my house crying at the memories of my family and friends that had fallen to Cyconids. I cried in silence. I knew what my final act in this world would be. It might save the city from an attack or it might doom it for all eternity but this was a risk i was willing to take. I gathered the high explosives from my house and strapped them to my entire body. Moving stealthily down the halls i made my way to the entrance, opening the door and then sealing it behind me. I marched through the snow to a small area far from the entrance. I spread my arms out and waited hand firmly clamped on the dead man switch. I waited and waited. Knowing that death would be swift i had rigged the explosives to detonate where i to die be stabbed or cut. I waited for what seemed like a life time. The cold was beginning to effect me. I looked to the sky."Come on already. You took everything from me.Kill me. End my misery and pain."

I turned to look at the Shiva. I removed my helmet revealing my face Hideous and scarred from battles long fought."Do you think I want to live like this never removing my helmet for fear of being thrown out of the community. living near the edge of civilization. No friends no family just me. I am alone in this world. No Shiva I will die today and if you try to stop me i will take you with me. This may not avenge my family but it will set my soul to rest." I replaced my helmet. "Let death take me, Shiva, for life is meaningless without love."

Outside, the lights were flickering, and I swear I saw a man in the shadows.

"Of course it's not...but that's what's so great about it!"
"Where are you even taking me? All you told me was that..."
"You'll see Taak, you'll see..." spoke Noriit as he grinned in my direction.
"Fine, let's just go." I whined, just before Noriit ran off into the shadows. On the other side lay a huge cave, with large buildings protuding form the uneven floor.
"Come on Taak, it's on the other side of the city!"
I laughed, then sped off after him.

No one spoke from that moment on. They just tried to escape. As the fiery red spread throughout the whole room, and burnt the feet of the now insignificant beings.
"Wha...wha...what...is.."

The patch cracked, and melted open, letting out a blast of furnace-hot, sulphurous air. A hand rose out of the hole, and slammed into the floor outside the hole, dragging the rest of a body with it. The details couldn't be made out, as the figure was so hot he glowed, obscuring all detail. It looked about twice as tall as the Matoran, and had wierd digitigrade legs and a tail.
Soundlessly, it collapsed to the floor. Its armour made little pinging noises as it cooled.

((Ezru, once the great being of Tempesta Magna, tried experimenting with the core of the planet. ((Oooh, awesome stuff.))
The matoran just stood and looked in awe: the being seemed so familiar, but since when had they seen such a large figure with such mind-boggling abilities? Steam hissed from its armour, nearly suffocating Taak and Noriit. Noriit, the little joker he is, had to be the first to mutter a word...

It got to its feet, in a half-crouch, and looked down at the two Matoran. As it cooled, its colours showed through - blue and silver. It was vaguely barrel-chested, and wore a stange mask on its face. It looked to be absolutely exhausted.
"Where... am I?" It asked.

A tremor rocked the complex. I looked around to see rock falling from the complex ceiling around the Gun ship. "Jak get this bird turned around we need to check that out." I ordered as another tremor rocked the world around us. The falcon turned on its axis and floated down the corridor as we rounded a corner we almost ran into the Shiva that had talked me out of my self-destructive plan. "Have you found the source of the tremors or is the way blocked." I yelled into the loud speaker.

the break in the tempestas crust had began the flow of hot magma from the core. in a few days it would break through into my home. i left and came back with a large bucket of snow and dumped it on the growing lava. the liquid fie crusted over but it would only hold back the flow for so long...

i readied myself and packed up what i could carrie it would be a long journey...

"Longer. Much longer.500000 years, you've been gone.500000 years we've waited and watched. And now your back to reclaim this world.Good for you." I turned to Shiva."I don't trust him. If he was so great and powerful why would he have abandoned us to the Cyconids. Why would he go down to the Core to do experiments when he should have known what would happen. Is he not omnipotent(all powerful). He should never have gotten trapped.

"What's so bad about the Cyclonoids? They haven't been going underground have they? No? Then I haven't left you to their mercy AT ALL. You should have known your place and not ventured to the surface, and then nobody would have died. Is that not what I told your people?

Curiosity can be lethal.... As I inadvertantly demonstrated over the last... 500000 years..."

A large screen suddenly became transparent in the wall, and Ezru was greeted with a gigantic set of controls. Something hissed above the town, and various hatches opened in the ceiling. The town began to rotate. All three miles of it. Buildings near the circumferance bgan to crumble as the ancient machinery whirred into life. Lighting flashed across the ceiling.

faster and faster it whirred. Metal began to fly as the buildings shook themselves apart. Shards leaped into the centre of the sphere, forming a smaller sphere - which grewa and grew. Gigantic forks of lightning speared across the city, deafening anyone nearby. Ice bagan to rain down from the glacier above.

And then the metal inside began to shrink. It collapsed in on itself with a deathly crusnching noise, and then disappeared. Something fell from the roof of the now empty sphere.

((Now it's a bit like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRCAcNyRNHU ))
