Hey Brick~busters. Hope I'm not stepping over my boundry here by creating this topic in your group. Just thought there should be an official thread for reporting.

Looking at my "Recent activity" feed, you're taking this thing seriously now, huh?

Glad there's some law-enforcement active on MOCpages.

Yeap. That's what Sean "hired" me for! (that's in quotes 'cause I'm not actually getting paid for this... yet. hehehe)

Well, I doubt Steve's screen name is "Bigfatslob", and It's not on MOCpages, but here's one;

That will be good for "Brick~busters" but if it's not on mocpages, I can't do anything about it. Keep posting those though because maybe BB CAN do something.

Thanks Brady G, I will post that over on the main group's discussion area for help.

To Chris: No worries on stepping over boundaries, as you are now a B~B Mod :D
The group here had one member for weeks, then over night we gained 20 members! Whoo~hoo! ;-)

Once word got out about B~B, then people joined. I know the Lego Fire Community has been hit hard with stealers. I myself experienced an issue where someone took a picture off of my website and posted it on theirs, claiming that they made it. I took care of that immediately upon finding out about it and had their website shut down and their account removed. I don't take lightly to people stealing images of creations I worked hard in making. Understand, I do not mind sharing ideas with other builders. i'm more that happy to do that. I do not like, nor respect when people take a creation of someone else's and pawn it off as if they made it. That's the issue I have. That is why I joined Brick~Busters. I appreciate that there are other people who understand the complaints that members like me have and are willing to assist in removing violators! Thanks, gang!

Apparently "Bigfatslob" is indeed Steve -- ref:

and
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=bigfatslob

so all belongs to Steve: http://mocpages.com/home.php/711

Ok, its on LEgo's site and it was stolen from MOCPAGES. The username on lego.com is cntower10. My research has the same screen name on twitter, with both locations in Canada. Name is Chris Newar. If someone can check him on twitter and see if its him, then we have our culprit. Any help would be appreciated.

I looked through it. If you have links to the stolen moc (on mocpages only for me as that's the only place I can do anything. But please add the links for other sites as well as Brick~Busters can do things on other sites) and the original I'll be able to take care of it on the mocpages side of things.

Hi Bob:

I read the thread and I saw the LDD Gallery of "cntower10" on Factory/DeignByMe. We are trying to come up with a good RFR (Request For Removal) procedure on pages other than LU pages (which have their own comment boxes); so far we may have found a good one for Club pages (various themes), yet the LDD file pages Gallery is a bit more complex. First off: the "download" button, which I have always thought should be an option for the individual creator; secondly, considering that LEGO encourages the 'tweaking' of existing creations and sharing of ideas, it may be more difficult to convince them to remove these type of images.

How did your (and others') actual .LXF files get into public domain?

(With regard to attempting to place comments on the LEGO.com Message Boards for some type of reporting, that part of the site is VERY heavily moderated. There were some "incidents" there a few years ago involving religious arguments {which is another reason that topic is forbidden on most sites} and so TLC cracked down.)

Lastly, what your group's Mod "Anthony S" wrote is most true.

Sorry :)

Still, keep an eye out for actual photos of MOCs being swiped & used on MOCpages ~ now that Chris is here {whoo~hoo} we can at least combat that problem!!

B~B,
I understand completely what you are saying. I too concur with Anthony. I just feel bad for those whose ideas are taken in their entirety without any change to the LDD file. Fortunately for me, I don't use LDD or an CAD program. All of the creations are both physical Lego bricks and intact. So that we are on the same page, I am all for sharing ideas. Its what makes a better creation. That is how the LTFD has grown to look more realistic compared to the way it used to look. I learned the basic chassis design of a 6-stud-wide fire truck from Tom Duggan and incorporated my own ideas with Tom's. Eventually, I began looking to build more realistic apparatus, found a design that I was looking for, through Paul Bock's design and combined that with Tom's 6-wide chassis and my own body, pump and cab ideas. Anyway, good work! We'll continue to be on the watch. : )

Well, I found one but I can't be 100% sure that it's a stolen moc. So I come to you all here to help me decide on this one. I just KNOW that I've seen this exact pic before. Not only that, but the backgrounds used are not what the builder usually uses AND... check the pic quality. I know in my gut that this is stolen but can't prove it. Anyone help me out on this? Can't delete it until I "KNOW" it's stolen.

I got it BB. Don't worry, the kid put "This is not mine" on it so it was easy to figure out. This kid has actually been stealing stuff for a while. I really don't think he truly understands what he's doing. No excuse I know. But he's been reported to Sean and we'll see if we can't nip this one in the bud.

Chris, one tool we use a lot (when B~Bers/FOLs can't find rightful owner) is an image database website: http://www.tineye.com/
where you download, then upload the suspected swiped photo and it may come up with the original source online.
That could help you be more certain ;-)

Well, they certainly missed the concept of My Own Creation, yet I do not know MOCpages' policy about sets -- as long as the user built & photographed it, then technically it isn't a swipe.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention :-)

This is certainly a matter for Chris to handle; he can access behind-the-scenes info to verify if it is an impersonation.

Personally, I do not tolerate people stealing MOC's and post it as their own. I do not care for people representing themselves as someone they are not. I have zero tolerance. It may be harsh, but if I were a mod, I would shut down and delete the offender's MOC account and suspend the offender for a period of 6 months. After the 6 month period, the offender will get a second chance. If they blow it, its a lifetime ban. Period. No three strikes and your out BS. This is life...not baseball. Give the person one opportunity to correct themselves. That's it. They mess up the second chance, they're done. That is my feeling on misrepresentations and theft. I have zero tolerance on more malicious actions that would result in a permanent ban. An example would be the threat of harm to another builder. I know no one would be dumb enough to do that, but you'd be surprised what I've seen here.

As far as I know, moderators can lock a topic. And I think he's just waiting till someone with an admin/moderator status from mocpages sees this.
