Ok, if I have to answer any of the following questions one more time… If you are about to ask any of the following questions DON’T.

“Who will I be playing against?”
You’re NOT going to find out until the games start.

“Can I be put in the (X) category?”
I don’t have ANY control of what category you play in, it’s RANDOM!

“When are the games going to start?”
Second week of August. Exact date hasn’t been chosen yet but I’ll let you know when it is. If we need to have preliminary rounds, those will start as soon as I can get them organized. I should know by Sunday what’s going on.

“You have too many people. What are you going to do?”
I’ve answered this about 5 times already.

“I don’t any (X) pieces, what can I do?”
Pray you don’t get that category or become very creative quickly.

Hopefully, this helps answer the FAQs.

You lose.
I had the same problem with Star Wars: I had none. I decided not to take the risk and to get some (but I lost MY ONLY CLONE!).
Well, que sera sera :)
(btw I didn't see any B.F. category on the cat list...)

You can use LDD to design your build, but LDD will NOT be accepted as an offical entry, nor are you allowed to order ANY parts at any time for your build. I've never used LDD myself, but if I understand correctly, in LDD you design a creation and then you can order it through lego. This is basically the same thing as ordering through bricklink. So that, you CAN'T do. Feel free to use the computer to "design" anything you want, but you CANNOT ORDER ANY PARTS.

I get that part. However, I don't use LDD, I use LeoCAD/LDraw (far superior programs, IMO) - is that out too then?

I believe so. It's safe to say LDD, LeoCAD and LDraw can be categorized as "design tools". The bottom line is the MOC should be made with official LEGO pieces. I hope that helps.

BTW, you got some cool stuff in your page.

That's the same thing. How about I say No Digital Lego. I mean it's not fair that you make a model and your compettion makes an empire beacuse they have a certain software. but the person that built a model is the one who would win beacuse he acctualy USED Lego

You are denying some very skilled MOCers the right to compete using their chosen medium - your loss.

I do see your point that using the computer to build lego creations is a great tool, but that's not the point of the MocOlympics. What about those people that don't/can't or won't use those programs? It's your same argument in reverse. I spend most of my mocpages time on the computer at work between calls and don't have access to LDD or other programs. Should I be put at a disadvantage to someone who does have them? MOCpages is and always was a site for building lego creations. I'm not saying that the computer built models are any less of a "creation" than brick built ones, all I'm saying is that this is a site for people to share their creations and I'm sorry to say, that the vast majority of people here build with actual lego.

If you're not going to compete with the bricks that you do have, then I'm sorry that we're going to lose you. I hope you reconsider and give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen? You lose in the first round right? Well, that's going to be the same story for about 60 other builders as well, so you're not alone there.

Think about it before you make your decision about pulling out of the competition. If you still feel you don't want to compete, send me an email and I'll remove your name from the list.

Thank you for the shopping advice, however, there are some obstacles in my way of simply "buying a webcam"

1) I have no spending money to spare; I live with my family and all the money on my bank account is going toward paying for my college education. I don't currently have a job because...

2) Even though I earnestly tried to look for one, there simply are none in the area I live in, due to the fact that...

I'm deleting your original comment because I don't want political/religious and or any other type of controversial subjects posted in my groups... I left the rest of it though.

1) Thank you for at least reading my argument and putting some thought into the answer.

2) For people who are simply unwilling to try their hand at LEGO CAD, I can only say "their loss" and that they need to expand their horizons. For those who don't use the programs due to lack of know-how, I (and other virtual LEGO builders across the Internet) are willing to provide tech-support. For those who can't install LeoCAD (my virtual LEGO program of choice) on a computer at work or school due to administrative restrictions, allow me to let you in on a little secret: LeoCAD is very portable (I keep a backup copy of my installed LeoCAD folder on a USB Drive; it's under 200 MB).

3) I always did and always will respect well-built MOCs made from real LEGOs and their creators (without real LEGOs, there probably wouldn't be any virtual ones). However, I wish that more LEGO fans would extend that same respect to well-built virtual MOCs.

4) Perhaps I did not make myself clear in my earlier comment when I hinted at the fact that I do not have access to a digital camera.

...and with that, gentlemen (and ladies), I must go submit my resignation...

~soaring dream of my MOColympics competition getting shredded out of the sky by the heavy-caliber anti-air cannons of restrictive rules... small, fiery chunks of debris rain down~

Maybe if both competiors agreed to it, a digital design could be entered. So so Bob and George are competing. George has no money, and hence no bricks. George asks Bob if he can use LDD (or whatever other program). Bob says yes. They build, compete, and are scored. If Bob says no, George does as best he can, and if he fails, thats the game for him. Just an idea...

lets make it shot, sweet, and to the point. (That phrase can be very subliminal, really.) Legos are matter. What is matter, you may ask? Matter is everything, but everything isn't matter. You can build with legos, they are real, they are matter. Your computer is also matter. But, your Digital Designs are not. They are, well a digital design, therefore they are not matter. I understand some people may not have real, plastic legos in thier grasp, and i respect that, but for all intents and purposes, it is in the rules that LDD is not allowed. Now that im sure that little shinanigan left 3 of you who are mad and the rest trying not to pee. And Chris of course is sitting there, IV line filtering Campbells Soup into him so he can stay at the cpu night and day, just blew a microchip... or two.

In regards to earlier conversation, LDD and other such programs are a great tool, they take lots and LOTS of getting used to, especially if you're an AFOL who's used to an actual brick. They are however a bit of a cheat in a competition such as this. You have an UNLIMITED amount of every single peice available, it's much more organized and faster than building a real model. I could have done this whole competition in LDD but it wouldn't have been fair to the other player who would have had to have their creation posted within 48 hours of mine.. It just wouldn't work for a competition like this and Chris was wise to keep it out from this event.
I will support any builder who only has access to a digital lego source, and would recomend to a builder who hasn't tried it to try the official Lego version.

Sorry to enter the conversation, as I'm not very concerned by digital Lego... I've made some creations with MLcad and that was rather cool, though. But the rules of MOColympics are what they are : they're focused on real Lego. If the fact that digital Lego isn't allowed is a big problem, maybe the builders who are interested in it could create their own "Digital Lego-olympics" - Just an idea... It could be interesting for everyone :)

This brings to mind a couple quotes:

1) "Dura lex sed lex"
- Latin proverb - "The law is harsh, but it is the law"

2) "Rules aren't necessarily sacred, principals are"
- Franklin D. Roosevelt

Oh, and for the record, I'm not mad about this. I am, however, a bit disappointed - disappointed that many of you are so underconfident in your MOC-ing abilities that you feel you must rule out my fellow virtual LEGO artists and me from your precious traditional competition in order to preserve your "fighting chance". Many of you are excellent builders and should be proud of your skills, rather than being so insecure - it's not good for your self-esteem.

Chris hasn't replied to the idea that if competing contestants agree to use a virtual building program, then it would be okay. ask him about that before you withdrawl, because I think it's a great idea, and he might decide to allow that.

Ok... how to put this without sounding like an insensitive jerk? LDD and similar programs are not allowed because this is a lego BUILDING competition, not a lego DESIGN competition. I have no problems with people who use the programs and am very happy that you use and enjoy them. They just aren't allowed in this competition. There are about 3 or 4 of you that are upset that LDD is not allowed and around 100 other people who are actually building for the competition. Again, not trying to sound mean here, but majority rules. If there were 100 people wanting to use LDD and only 3 or 4 that wanted to use real lego, it would be a different story. But as it stands, this is the MocOlympics and we will be using real lego.

I wish you the best of luck organizing your own competition and would even offer my services as a judge if you need it. But please, let's but this topic of conversation to rest now. Thank you.

Hear, hear.

I would rather have a live woman in my hands than a virtual one on the screen. And if one disagrees, then... actually, I am not sure what is appropriate to say at that point. Maybe 'sad' would work.

I wonder if they would let me go to the the 1/4 mile track and let me pit a virtual car against their real world cars, just because I don't have a real one to race? I could make some money here ;-)
