I will be working on a new group picture the next week,
My original Idea was to photoshop ships from different builders into one picture but that seems to be practically very difficult.
A single ship doesn't describe the group well I think so I'll go for a picture of different ships of my own.
I haven't thought up the set-up yet but I was thinking to add my Flying Dutchman and some of these ships:

Anyway, about CP, be patient, there's a minimum time in between blog material that has to be respected (that way the viewers have time to check out what new there is).
I do advise you to always add a picture in your posts right away, that way a blogger can get to it right away, I noticed a blogger had already replied.

Btw, it's kind of unusual to literally ask to get blogged, I'm not a blogger myself anyway, I do not decide what is blogged ultimately.
Besides, your Ship is brilliant, you don't need me to tell them that, have confidence, you'll get blogged sure enough ;)

I see, yeah, posting pictures in the forum is a bit different, mocpages is ideal to host pictures, you simply have to go on your Golden Whale mocpage, right-click one of your pictures and select "open image in new window" (or whatever it sais on your PC) that you copy the url of the new window and when you post in the CP forum there's an icon that sais "insert image", click that and it will ask for an url, that's where you paste the url. Just make sure that it is an url of the image only (image in seperate window)

Sebeus, you have a point about the flat bottom of my hull. This complicates things :/ I'll have to do a bit of experimenting with that hull shape. I'd have to get a BL order to get those pieces considering I only have a few. Luckily it would only cost be 10$ (approximately 8 EUR).
Anyways I'll let you guys know how it works in a day or so.

i have vecation right now, and its fully used at my Lego, ive sorted 15% of my collection in colors, (15% is really much) and today i wanted to try just how much it made things easier, 6-9 hours later, i have an almost completed ship, which i call Clasica, becasue its in black and yellow, and looks like 70% MOC ships around, and yes i know its very unusualy for me to build something usual, but, i simply just couldnt do that, so i did add alittle unrealistic detail, and now im happy hehe,

I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Assassin's Creed games, but I was watching some videos of the new game, which takes place during the American Revolution, on youtube and I found out that you can have ship battles in it! I know this doesn't really have a lot to do with this group, but it sort of has to do with ships :P

Yes I am, I have Assassins Creed 1 and 2 and I'm definitely planning to get the newest one too, especially now I know there will be sea based events, I already knew there would be redcoat - bluecoat fights :P
I love the game, only complain that I experienced with the previous games was that I don't play them anymore, I guess once they're played it's over :/

I disagree, once you play it it isn't over. That is why there is free-roam, though I guess even that gets boring. Plus in Brotherhood, Revelations, and the new one there is multiplayer.

Well, I must say I spent a lot of time playing assassins creed and I might be quickly bored :P
I never played the multiplayer :/ don't know why I think something came in between.

Those ship battles are not very realistic, although the game has to advance (the way the ships sail around in all directions at high speed :P and sinking so quickly :P )
nevertheless, it's very nice, a super realistic ship battle would be boring probably :P

On another note, I decided to dump the black pearl style cabin on my ship, I'm going for a more typical warship stern now.
With one of the most important BP details is gone, I don't think people will recognize my ship as a 'repainted' Black Pearl' :P

well personly, i love all the AC games, and the latest one, revelations, has some really cool ship battles, and i will diffently get the new one aswell, even though, the story with Ezio and Altair is over. but back to ships, imvgoing to enter the world of costum hull building, and ive decided not to use any existing technics, by perpose atleast.

i know its a very common technic, (or now i do) i just havent seen it so much, not in that variation, and somewhere i has to start, right,
i know your FD has something semiliar, the bow technic, and the whole ship will have the red/black color scheme, and i will try to make my first ship, with 2 cannon decks, oh and while im at it, i can reveal, that, this ship is instended to have some kind of cannon turrets at the main deck, with 3 cannons in each turret, and i will hopely make them turn, by an remote-controlloed unit =)

and some people are just very underated, Žwe have to make it an catagorie at the next years MOCie Awards, hehe. Back to my bow, the sections is very easy replaceable, unlike my other builds, (i always end up building a moc from scrath atleast 3 times, but now its very easy to chance something if i dont like it, my only problem now is to make some sides that looks good, and not to fragile,

Making costum tall ships is one of the most difficult disciplines in MOCing, mainly because those hulls are meant to be rounded and curving in three dimension while LEGO parts are square and mostly orthogonal-based.
I know what you're talking about, I often have to rebuild a big part because I was thinking too 2-dimensional while I should think 3-dimensional :P It looked good from one angle but it was a fail viewed from another angle...

Very cool! My sister plays clarinet and used to play viola, and I play a bit of both. I once in a while pick up one of my dad's guitars and play around with those also. I don't know notes in any of those instruments, I just make stuff up :P In short I play pretty much anything I have access to.
Oh, and speaking of potc music, I wish i could play it. I do listen to it on my ipod a lot though. Sometimes I play it out in my yard until the neighbors start complaining :P

Oh by the way, i sorted out my side problems, its looking good and is very solid, my only problem at the moment is, i only have enough bricks to build an half ship (or, with the collection at my room, ive just been at my balcony, and did pick some of my storage up, and found some of the parts i needed (i have just about 50 kilos at my balcony, as i can my storage) so they gotta be in some of thoose 50 kilos, its thoose 2x2 inerverted slopes in black i need, i try to actualy build a bottom hull just like the prefab hulls, cause i like em, the main hull (without bow) is 52 studs long right now, and i nned to make it twice that, so 104 studs (without bow and stern) of two lay'er of thoose inverted slopes, thats 104 of em, each side, hehe, but it looks good.

Anyways, an update on the pearl:
I am currently trying to figure out the tumblehome problem and I need to place a BL order for slopes to make the area where the hull meets the keel less flat, luckily that only cost about 10$.

Btw, I started "operation Flying Dutchman"

It is really good. I don't know what kind of movies you like, but I think that almost everyone who sees it will really like it. It is a pretty long movie, but since it is the ending of the trilogy, that makes sense. I recommend you see it.

How the BiiiiiB can see the 3'th of an film serie, when you havent seen number 2 ???

Anyways, yea its a good movie, so like the two before it, BUT, since its the ending, i had my expectations really high, it is still a really good movie, but i though it would be atleast twice as good as the previously ones,
And B-) if you havent seen the sequel , then you dont get well anything of the 3'th one,
and back to our normal topic.
Pirates, my crusader is halfway, and i seriously mean halfways, i have half a ship, the bow and half of the main hull, and its looking good, but there wont be any interior,
cause it will be used as a exibition model, and i dont have the money or parts to make with an interior, and i now i did repeat myself twice, in this post, but thats just how it is =)

I still understood what was happening in the 3rd, I have seen parts of the 2nd, just not the entire thing. I can't really judge it very accurately to the others because of that, but I liked it better than the 1st. I have mixed feelings about the ending though, I sort of thought they should have not had the whole cafe scene, because then it would have been a epic ending, but at the same time I would have been sort of sad.

Back to the pirate stuff though, I can't wait to see your ship Morthen! It sounds really cool!

In the Tumbler ofcourse, there's a funny scene in the 2nd movie where this guy watches the chrashed tumbler as the motorcycle jumps out and the rest of the tumbler initiates self-destruct :P

About the Paul Cantu Issue, I'm afraid he might have entered his dark ages, its sad, I've been around here at mocpages for 4 years now and Paul cantu isn't the only one I don't hear anything about anymore.

That reminds me of a scene in the third were Batman and Catwoman are on a roof and batman jumps into his flying tumbler thing (which is landed in an alley) and as Catwoman is getting into it she says "My mother always warned me about getting into cars with strange men," and as the tumbler thing is taking of Batman says, "This isn't a car." :P

About dark ages, I've never really had a full dark age, more of a glimpse of one. It is really depressing, because you don't want to be out of Lego, but you just don't really want to build and you don't have inspiration (There is more on that in origin stories). It is always sad when I hear or read about other people that quit lego, even if I didn't know them. Hopefully none of us ever have to go through real dark ages.

and you did build an amazing fortress,
but when you lost that round, you said :im going into my dark age now:
then i said: why dont you use your dark periode to make the black pearl, (use your dark periode to build a dark ship)
a couple of months after that, you build your first black pearl,

Oh but I have to make the party before I completely finish the Dutchman, after the party I'm going to finish the port side, now I'm just preparing the lower deck for that.

My first sigfig was supposed to look like me but then I figured it looked like many other sigfiggies as well and it was simply a boring fig.
So I decided I should have a unique figure, it's kind of hard to replicate considering some of the parts I used though. On the other hand, it's unmistakably my sigfiggy

Interesting idea. I think I'll play around with some more unique sig-fig designs, the only problem will be finding one that I'll be content with for a long period of time. I am content with the one I have, but at the same time I feel it could be more unique. For example, if someone put me in a creation, people might mistake me for just any old pirate, they might not think "Hey, that's Ben's Siggy!"

What do you guys think? Is my siggy unique enough? Should I change him slightly? Or make an entirely new one?

Perhaps adding a flashy attribute would do the job, like a bright red cape (just an example, I don't know if that would look good on your sig)
Now that I think about it, a brown cape might look great, it goes well with the belt on the torso and the brown tricorner. And ofcourse you could add a plume to your tricorner as well

As Sebeus said, just make it unique. If you have any rare or interesting parts that will stand out, use them.

That depends on your preference, a very unique siggy will be noticed and more easely linked to your profile but it might be hard for other MOCers to replicate and use it in creations when it consists out of rare parts.
Using very common minifigure parts makes it a lot easer for other people to use it, but you risk having look-alikes.

As for your current siggy, the torso is commun but I haven't seen the green hair often so that's good

It's a camp were we pretty much do marching drills and learn all the music that we will be playing at the football games in the fall. This has been a pretty active day. Speaking of which, it's too bad that this group only has a few active members. I remember when I first joined there where lots of active people here. Oh well, if nothing else, we have a gotten to know each other well this way. You know what? We should have a contest! Us active people could be the judges, and we could have the contest opened to pirate builders from any website. Meaning, we would post it on Flickr, classic-pirates, EB, Mocpages, etc. And they could submit their entries to any of the groups created here, on Flickr, or on EB. What do you guys think? It could be a sort of olympics for pirate builders :P

I like the mocie award show idea, I just don't know if we have the humor to pull it off? Maybe we could all try to come up with some jokes? I don't know... I'll have to think about this. Oh, and I think a creation of honor for the winner would be nice but flattering their mocs seems kind of... I don't know... sort of like being a teachers pet, if that makes any sense. Also we should ask people at EB, here, and Flickr what a good prize would be, getting opinions from our target audience is a good idea.

nah, lets just keep our ideas here for now, make a plan, then make a serious plan, and when we have some ideas that we think are good, we can share them at EB,
but before we begin write jokes, then we should establish the competition, and meanwhile the building for the contest is at progress, then we can write jokes and find out how we are gonna pull it of,

but first things first,
we will first have to agree about some things,
like rules, and the fact if we want to host a contest in the first place, becasue i know theres alot of work into it, and ive never done something like that before,

Perhaps you should chance the torso, and arms, to a brighter color than black, so that the armor stands out more, and you notice it,
pick your favorite bright color and use that,

Well, gentlemen, as it has been a long time since I posted a WIP update, I'd say its about time for another. Just be warned not much has really happened since my last post. This post will be more of a "So heres were I'm having trouble, any suggestions?" type of thing. I think I figured out a way to make the tumblehome better, but the hull near the keel could use some work. Sebeus, do you think you could post a LDD file with part of your BL like ship on it? I'd like to see how you did the tumblehome/cross section of your ship if that's possible.

Hi guys, now im finaly settled in my new apartment, and i've just made a BL order so that i can finish my Crusader.

And today i bought a QAR for around 32 Euro,
perfect condition, with all figs, (even though i had one already, then i needed some more sails) and for that price, im happy to do so,

Do it, its a rubbish ship, and dosn't deserves to live, i had two, and now they are both part of my golden whale (+ my whole Mermaids Trident serie)
They have some very usufull parts.
now if you had an Imperial Flagship, thats a diffrent story

I had the same thing some years ago,
I had a Skull's Eye Schooner and I didn't want to destroy it because I wasn't certain I would be able to make a better ship out of it.
So I started with some small modifications, I kept modifying the ship (even completely changed the colorscheme) and eventually it turned into a different ship.

So I suggest you don't destroy it but modify it instead, that way if you don't like the new look it's easy to return the ship to its former state

Joke aside. Sebeus's suggestion is rather good, or atleast destroy it and keep track on where the parts is, i used to have two of the Brick beards bounty, i kept all their pieces in a single box (incase i wanted to build them again)
and that did help alot.
i have several Lego ships from Lego that i do not want to destroy or modify in any way.

Great ship so far Morthen, the shape looks good, normally a ship didn't have its cannon ports on top of each other but in your ship it doesn't bother me actually. Keep it up!

i know they didnt, But hey its me we are talking about XD but i couldnt do it any diffrent then that, im might gonna chance some of the shape though, because its doable when each section goes a half a stud out and one stud down, so im gonna make it go in a straight line, but each section will still go half a stud away from the hull,
(one section is 6 studs)

that was exactly what i was going to change, because its diffycult to attach it to the upper deck then, but i wont change it then, because i like it to, i just have to figure something out, (its really unstabile) But yet again, this is just a exebit model, i will make it more stabil and with an intirior later on,

That's true, the more you get to a realistic shape, the less possibilities for interior.
It's a choice you have to make, if you look at Captain Greenhair's frigate you'll see that the interior is very limited. But the ship itself looks very good.

The cabin looks massive compare to the rest of the ship. I like the balconys. I would recommend adding some stern chasers beneath the cabin, the stern looks very exposed. How many cannons is this thing going to hold?

Well if they have to shoot something that attacks it from behind, then they have to sacrifice the massive rear Window, hehe, and i have no idea, between 44 and 66 hehe, atleast

Be carefull, the stern is the weakest point of most ships, best way to counter an attack from behind is to make a turn to show your broadside.
If it's an uneven fight just run as Davy-Jones-Locker, stern chasers could be usefull then although they won't do much against a full broadside of an enemy ship.

Conclusion: avoid raking fire at all costs ;)

Yea i spoke to THE big guy hehe,
Without i knew it hehe, else i would have demanded a Flying dutchman set, as collectors edition =) but he was very impressed by my ships, so thats good.
I dont like the way the gunports is plased above eachother, and i know how to fix it, i just didnt have time or bricks to fullfill my dream completely, (thats why it dosent have any sails, i had my cloth with me, to make the sails, but i simply didnt have time, i was panic building that whole weekend, whenever i had the change, hehe, and yes every section is 6 studs wide, and there will be a second version of my Crusader, with either interior, or power funtion components.

But everyone of thoose 2600+ ordience, who came to visit the exibition, where really impressed by my ships, so was the 350 people who did display their lego.

Each and everytime i told the other displayer's, that it was me, who had the three pirate ships,
people went: Oh is it that with the moveing cannons???? because thats so cool,

At day one, 80% of everyone, didnt notice the crusaders cabin because of thoose cannons, the golden whale has, so it was bad and good at the same time,

But then at day 2, there i did move them around, then i did add the water details, and another sea serpent,

and thats the end result in the video link,

I met a guy who had met you funny enough.....he camo to me and asked if i where at Eurobricks,
then i said yes,
Then he said he could roconize my Golden Whale (its really easy to reconize it though hehe)

then i asked him if he knewt you, then he said he had met you at brickmanie,

he once bould an enormus fort, with many cannons upon it, (he only had some pictures of it though)

but atleast three guys from diffrent contries, could reconize the Whale, from eurobricks.

That would have been nice allthough I don't think I'd actually place it on the Flying Dutchman itself (considering it doesn't have a name tag in the movie either) but it would be usefull for displays as a nametag next to the ship :P I'll check if there will be a tile engraver on the next Belug event, it's a great Idea.
