Awesome! I am excited to see pictures. Hopefully lego doesn't make it lame like the black pearl. Actually it wasn't that lame, I was disappointed when I saw how inaccurate they made it.

Sorry to say but the Flying Dutchman release is probably fake.
It was on a wiki, someone made it up.
Still, we can always hope :)

I'm starting to agree with you... Sorry for posting this here, but I posted it just after I did in Eurobricks...

It might be possible TLC is actually planning on releasing one but they could be having a hard time making a good set.
After all, there's quite a lot of interest in an official Flying Dutchman among the Lego community
And there's the coming of a fifth pirates movie to consider as well, that suggests the ongoing of the lego POTC line

I am excited for the new 5th pirates! Do you know when it is going to be finished? Like you said, there are a lot of people interested in the flying dutchmen so if lego screws this up a lot of people are going to be disappointed. Hopefully they won't overprice it either. I hope they continue the potc line, because it has a lot of potential.

I just read the comments above, I hope that it isn't fake. Oh well, from legos past they would probably make an inaccurate and way too small version that would only upset potc fans.

Making a good set of the flying Dutchman would be quite the challenge for TLC,
I mean, the black pearl is much easier, black hulls and black sails are the main important aspect.
But the flying dutchman ?
replicating the demon cannon ports, triple guns, complicated stern and prow, that's not easy if you want to limit the costs to sell it at a "decent" price (typical would be 120 euro's)

take my wip flying dutchman for example
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/dsc04003.jpg
Lego would never sell anything like this, too big, too expensive, it will look great but who would want to pay 600 euro's for it ?
(just a number, I didn't exactly estimated the costs :P)

I guess you're right. A realistic version of any ship would cost to much. Anyway, I guess that's what moccers are for. We create realistic ships using our collections and imaginations. If lego made a realistic version of the flying dutchmen it wouldn't be as cool as actually building and designing your own, so I overall it is better that lego makes stuff unrealisticaly.

I cannot agree and that is why I think the images of the ship in the video game are possible. I cannot make an estimative of the number of parts, but I think they could use around 2200 bricks, as they did in Grand Emporium, so the ship could be quite large. Also, even though Sebeus' project is accurate, I think that the ship for being really cool and realistic doesn't have to have all that length, if is built properly. Judging from the images I don't think the ship was very long...

The Flying Dutchman version from the game its size isn't the only matter, it holds an enormous amount of bricks, much more than 2000 I think and an important requirement for all sets is that they must be easy to build, with the POTC line they're mostly aiming for a relative young group of fans
(we're talking about this one right ?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bricktrix/6169229644/)

they can't sell that version, besides, it doesn't have an interior.
one of the things an official version must have is the Organ.

Designing the official Black Pearl is a piece of cake compared to the Dutchman I bet.

I think I'll start a little side project, the challenge: build an economic version of the Flying Dutchman :P

now that we are talking about the potc ships from the game, the black pearl, i ofcourse thought hey thats the way they are going to build it, for it was very accurate, but look at the result.....its horrible, but the main thing as sebeus mentioned is the black sails and hull, thats it, then people can make their own, but the FD is extreme, then they should make some collectors editions of the BP and the FD, i hope they will , eventualy.

Collector's edition versions are very unlikely, I'd love to see those either way :P
I would already be if there's gonna be an official Flying Dutchman,
probably not very accurate but might include some nice parts useable to make a better one.
And the minifigures of course, I need some more crew members on my flying dutchman but those POTC sets are so expensive, especially considering I'm most interested in the minifigs :S
I might get either the "Mill" or the "Black Pearl"
one condition though, they need to be discounted, I'll feel better then :P

Well, about the collector's edition, just make your own new FD in LDD and send it to Lego I'm sure they'll release it :P

And building an economic version of the ship would be almost impossible

(Can't see your link I was talking about this:http://www.google.com/imgres?q=lego+flying+dutchman+set&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1496&bih=982&tbm=isch&tbnid=0F_8WRaukfKqWM:&imgrefurl=http://www.brothers-brick.com/2011/09/21/lego-flying-dutchman-for-the-lego-pirates-of-the-caribbean-video-game/&docid=2viXBP8uUfXiJM&w=500&h=360&ei=j3ODTpSbGZDcsga69_SmDg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=187&vpy=315&dur=377&hovh=190&hovw=265&tx=149&ty=50&page=1&tbnh=143&tbnw=199&start=0&ndsp=31&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0)

Wow big link xD

And about the minifigs I wouldn't concern much, they're cool but not very important, is the ship that is unique ;)

I found someone else making a Flying Dutchman over at Flickr, so far it looks more complicated than my design
http://www.flickr.com/photos/55765084@N07/5682470744/in/set-72157625237749875/
I must say I like that hull, looks both strong and well shaped.
Maybe I'm building a second prototype ? :P

that looks way to complicated to ever be something good, and the hull reminds alot of my grim reaper, hehe, maybe i has inspired him? you never knows, hehe,

maybe it did :p
I don't know about the hull, the front parts has potential but the rear part is bound to be a failure, unless he knows a lot of special tricks and techniques he could make it work out.

I must work more on my version btw, didn't have a lot of time lately

Big news !
there are rumors of an official flying dutchman set and this time they're more probable,
It's still hard to believe considering all the false info that came earlier but some serious guys over at Classic Pirates confirm it (not the kind of guys to joke about those matters)

i bet all POTC fans are hopeing it to be true and its as great as all the false (maybe true) rumors tells. and not a little disapointing ship as the black pearl was
