Finally, after several weeks of drought, this group has now reached over 100 alternates. Thank you all for your great contributions!
Some interesting facts: Only 4 sets have been used for more than 50 % of the alternates:
5867 with 17 entries, closely followed by
6745 and 4939 with both 15 entries.
6743 is the last in this range with 10.
I think we can conclude that the sets in a low price range with focus on vehicles (mainly car based) are most popular for alternates.
Also it's interesting to note that only 3 members have together produced more than 50 % of the models in this group: Dave Teague, SPROGI5 P3T3RIS and I.
On to the next milestone and happy building! Permalink | August 22, 2010, 5:37 am |

Congratulations everyone. One hundred alternates is a milestone. Hopefully, we will all find time to continue building alternates and learning from each other.

Thanks to quite a few new members, who have made a significant contribution to this group, we have now reached the 200 alternates milestone!! Thanks everyone for your inspiring models and active participation! Without you this group wouldn't be the success that it is today! Keep those alternate designs of a Creator coming... With the increasingly amount of models it becomes harder to do a good analyses. However I think it's safe to say that set 5867 is by far the most popular set at the moment with around 50 alternates produced so far. It seems like smaller car sets are pretty popular in general... I did a quick and - as it turned out, a completely unnecessary - calculation and these are the most popular sets at the moment, just as you guessed:
5867 Super Speedster 20,73%
6745 Propeller Power 8,13%
4939 Cool Cars 7,72%
6743 Street Speeder 7,72%
5765 Transport Truck 5,28%

WHAT!?! NONE of those?? Then buy one (or more) copy of set 5867 now! Best buy I've done in years. ;) Permalink | September 1, 2011, 2:41 pm |

Let me agree with the 'best buy' part. It was for me, well, except our wedding ring. :) Permalink | September 1, 2011, 3:42 pm |

Oh no! I've just bought a second hand 8466 (a set I know you are familiar with) so I might have to wait a while. My wife can only take so much new Lego ;) thanks for the tip guys Permalink | September 1, 2011, 4:40 pm |

5867 is a winner, unlike the smaller green one. Utter rubbish, but I suppose that is the genius of the three Lego models it builds off the instructions. Permalink | September 2, 2011, 6:44 am |

Agreed about the ring, but if I want to buy more Lego I might have to buy another ring to soften the blow, or maybe give her another baby!!! :) Permalink | September 2, 2011, 8:21 am |

The new year has started of well, as this group has just passed the 300 alternates milestone! What a great achievement! Again I like to express my gratitude and praise, to all of you who have contributed over the past few years. If it wasn't for you, this group would have never been so successful as it is today. So thank you all and keep on building! Permalink | January 3, 2012, 9:42 am |

Congrats! I really like this group (even though i've only added one average altenative). Unfortunately my sets don't last long enough together to do an alternative, they get mixed up with the rest. I promise the next creator set I buy will be alternated :-) Permalink | January 23, 2012, 2:44 pm |

Just around 5 months have past after the 300 alternates milestone, and we have already reached the 400 now! It seems like this group is picking up speed, with more active members contributing, which is fantastic. Cedric Picher had the privilege to add alternate number 400 for this group the other day. Again a big thank you for all your inspiring models! Now up to the 500 milestone... Permalink | May 5, 2012, 5:49 am |

What a great week for this group! Not only have we now reached the 500 alternate milestone, but also did we have the privilege to welcome our 100th member, Milan grohl Reindl, who is also a respected alternate builder within the LEGO community. Again a big "Thank You!" to all of you, because without your great contributions this group wouldn't be the success that it is today! Permalink | July 21, 2012, 5:15 am |

It took a while, but now we have officially passed the 600 alternates benchmark! What a fantastic achievement!!! Admittingly I haven't contributed a lot myself lately, but thanks to some other productive members, this group is still going strong. Thanks everyone! Next milestone 750 alternates..? I had the luck to add alternative #600 to the group.
I must admit this fact caused more than appropriate pleasure to me. :)
Does anyone plan to throw up some statistics about the MOCs?

Yeah, I can imagine. Congratulations! I was also very tempted to just throw in a quick build, to reach the 600 milestone.
With over 600 alternates I find it personally a bit too much work to do the analyses and come up with some interesting statistics. Permalink | January 27, 2013, 9:02 am | |
