I remember that I used to look at technic as a plague upon all lego building. What the heck was a girder with all those holes in it good for, after all? It made lousy fortress walls, thats for sure--lol! It was only later that I learned how important, no--vital technic is to making cool models. Anyone else have a similar story?

Glad I'm not the only one!

I was given a huge bag of 1980's Technic for Christmas one year (best present ever - my MOCs are still mostly made from it!) but I had no idea what to do with most of the pieces. I remember using axels with grey stoppers on the end for everything, until I worked out what the black pins are for... I felt thoroughly stupid when I finally realised : S

Not the same story for me, as i only ever had, and still do the basic 2x4 bricks etc, and not much else in terms of Lego system stuff, and a few specific kits (which turned out not to be very good for alternatives).

I got a Technic combine harvester for my b-day about 4 years ago, and ever since I've only really used Technic in my creations,as i find the range of parts i now posess has many more possibilities for creations then my system stuff, although i still use a couple of creator kits when i want a break from Technic.

Having said that, i have a system Boeing 787 Dreamliner set in the garage which I'm dying to build with, but alas cannot until i move house :(

I came back to Legos via the Mindstorm NXT 2.0 system - after building a few models - I was unimpress with models provided but was impressed with AFOL NXT models on Youtube - I realize the difference in the better AFOL models was the extra Technic hardware and how they used them. Hence - my focus moved from NXT to Technics.
