sorry about my monstrosity of a hard suit , it was kind of slap dashed together and its not very pose-able,it does have some nice dash wheels on its feet though. the main thing i have trouble with when making a good hard suit is clever and functional joints(as you can see) that look good, if any one wants to share i will give them credit when ever i use it if I do Permalink
I think it looks great. Keep up the creative spirit. If you're using a digital camera, remember to turn on "macro." It's the little flower button on the camera. That will help you focus on smaller lego things. What I've learned is if using flash, stand farther away from the lego and zoom in. Since you're using flash it won't be blurry. But standing farther away prevents the flash from overwhelming the lego with a blur of white. Keep posting great stuff. If you're on flickr, come join my group there. Just look up my screen name in flickr.

I just joined and noticed your "One picture per suit" note, to post a hardsuit do we have to repost our creation with only one picture or are we just not to post the same creation twice?
its my understanding that it means don't post the same hardsuit twice, seeing as how if the rule is only one picture on the actual page every one of us has failed in that regard... hope that helps-M.K. Permalink
One pic per suit. If you have a bunch of suits you can post one pic of each. A hardsuit, I assume looks like a suit for wearing. If you think we would like seeing it, I'm sure it's fine to post here. I'm not too picky. Permalink
uh...no i don't think so Caleb, I think what Pete means by "picture" is what you see when you click the "LEGO creations" button. So what that boils down to is you can only upload a hard suit to the group once...-M.K. Permalink
Hey Pete, i was just looking at your GreyGoose and I was wondering how you get those perfect white backgrounds, I've tried before by setting up a piece of paper on the floor and another stood up against the wall, but this leaves gaps between the floor and wall pieces, also, what camera do you use? thanks in advance...-M.K. Permalink
Ah yes, the white background. If you look at my other pictures it's ugly gray even though the background was a white calendar. I used photoshop to make it white. If you want it relatively white, use white poster board of white table cloth and a super bright light like a desk lamp. My GrayGoose was actually shot at 6am with a tripod. I kept the lens open for 8 seconds. It makes the dark room look like bright daylight. I think the easiest way is to just get a big white background and some good strong lighting. Don't use flash if you want to be professional looking. Use a box to rest the camera to minimize shaking. Set the camera to take a picture in 10 seconds and walk away. If you want to use flash, stand back at least two feet and zoom in.
well obviously the word hard suit is not cut and dry. Pete's definition is good but I think that is still very loose...Will's definition also has its merits, saying it should look like armor is a good guideline, rather than a hard and fast rule. Caleb said that it comes down to size which is certainly an important factor. But really I think that common sense should guide us in this matter, there is a dividing line between mecha and hardsuits but we cant really put down rules to divide them. Sorry for the long-winded post...-M.K. Permalink
I gotta say I definitely like Pete's definition.(I'm gonna wear the _____ to a cocktail party) But one thing I've noticed is that mecha usually have weapons mounted on them while hardsuites hold a gun. Permalink
Guys, I just got through deleting your un-needed argument. I am really disappointed in the way you were talking about others behind their backs and starting arguments, you also double posted and strayed off topic. Please try to keep you squabbling to email or commenting on each-other's creations, and leave this group to what it was started for. This is a warning, and if you continue to be rude and argumentative, I will have to talk to our admin, and have you banned from this group, I would hate to have you go, so please play nice. Permalink

Hmmm...not at the moment. I may sometime, but right now all I have is Post-Apoc, some Sci-Fi dios, and more Post-Apoc. By the way, I'm sure Pete and the rest of you would like to take a little peek [if you haven't] at this linky: http://www.flickr.com/photos/spook0114/sets/72157607395319770/
whoa those suit are pretty cool, especially the main photo Permalink
^Spook's in my Top 3 Favorite Builders, and that main hardsuit is my favorite of all time, bar none. And I think subapoc is a sweet theme, which is why I made my suit an underwater one...hence the flippers. Permalink
Ah yes, that is nice, Will. By-The-Way, I really liked your take on that theme! Pete, I can't invite anyone unless I am an admin, Can you make me an admin, or just change the rules so us mods can invite people into this group? Permalink
Invites- has anyone else tried inviting? Over on the "Forge" group I am a regular member and I can invite people. I set this group's settings to "anyone can join." Does any one of you have experience how to change settings to let any member invite? Phong, can you check what your group's settings are?
For NeoSpawn, I formally copy/paste a link to our group on his MOC. If you guys see any good hardsuit builders out there, for now, just paste a link to this group on their moc.
Thanks to all who contribute to our conversations. It's amazing that we already have 126 posts so far. Let me know if you guys see any changes you'd like, or additional converstion ideas, or maybe contests you'd like to see.
For our group, can all members start a new conversation? Or only mods and admin? If anyone knows how to relax the settings please let me know. I've set the settings as low as possible, short of just turning everyone into admin. =P Permalink
my personal policy on t-joints is "avoid if at all possible"
I prefer 1 x 1 bricks with one, two, or four extra studs on the sides.
if you look at my Phoenix, the second version on that page has those as the basic joint for the arms.
hope that... answers your question in any way, shape, or form.
P.S.- Pete, looks like the clone battle pack will be just outside my grasp for a bit longer so I'm exhaling (as in not holding my breath) on that one.
The blog is so there can be a dedicated Lego blog for hardsuits. It's also a way to feature more builders that would normally not be blogged by BrothersBrick. The blog shouldn't be viewed as anything serious, more just a moc BrothersBrick with the ideals of Hardsuits Unite!
If any of you want to be a writer for the blog let me know. It's a simple process. When you're browsing lego pages and see a mech or hardsuit that makes you say, "wow" post it up on the blog and write a few short sentences about why it's awesomeness. If you are unfamiliar with HTML I can give you a template where you just copy and paste the pic URL and link URL to the builder. It should take no more than 5 min to make a blog post. And you're only expected to contribute if and when you see an unique jaw-dropping Lego hardsuit floating around the net. Permalink
Hey, Pete! I've got someone that could be a great addition to the group. Tracy Bowersox, farly new to mocpages, has showcased quite a bit of hardsuit potential. http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/20066 is where she's at!
A FFOL harsuit builder?
I'm suprised, too!
Hate to ruin the moment, but that's a guy, read his home page :)
Well... this is really neither here nor there but my little brother just had me make him a contest "Build Your own Makuta" as in bionicle. I don't plan on entering, but you guys might want to give it a shot, I dunno.
i would be forced to, to....well i'd do something bad that would probably get me banned off the site AND arrested if i couldn't play my 360. i'm giving up and finally buying starwars battlefront 2(a little late, i know)its like my numberone favorite game, and i'm getting it for like 3 dollars, sweet deal! Permalink
oh, no no no. I just reread what I wrote, and it sorta sounds like I'm getting on your case, I'm not. I was laughing the entire time I wrote that. I was trying to get across that I though it was really funny as well as off-topic, I guess my sense of humor doesn't translate well into text. Sorry for the confusion.
yo, can i not post anything for a while, one of my puppies died yesterday, and the other one isn't eating. i'm not in a "lego" mood....is that okay? i,ll still be on and i might post comments and stuff, but i can't build or anything. Permalink
When puppies are born the mother MUST lick the pups to stimulate their stomachs to start working. First time mother dogs do not understand this. If so, it is up the the owner to wipe the pup with a warm wet towel.
they were cleaned properly, and were fine for a couple of days, maybe they got sick or something?
i don't know, but thanks to everyones support and kind words i am feeling much better.
Thanks everyone! :) Permalink
