Sorry to be AWOL for so long. I've had so much on my plate. Labor demands, production stallments, competitor hostilities, learning to cook. But as the ESC Liason, I'm back and ready for more.

Hehe, always good to hear from you mate. It's all good. This is the kind of group that may be quiet for a while, but then fire up again when time allows. That's what I love about it. We aren't an all or nothing bunch, we just hang out here when we get the chance and continue to do so... I'm guessing we'll all be around for many years ahead! And who knows, we just might one day put out our own series of pulp fiction novels or some such, hahaha, now wouldn't that be something...

Just in case guys, would it be something anyone is interested in to see an instruction set on building a Samhain Fire?

I suppose I have never really considered it before but if anyone else was going to do a theme based story Moc, it might come in handy?

Do let us know ;)

Hey Parrington, I have an unusual request for you.

I'd like you to take a photo of a squad of GAIA soldiers, as if leading the charge in an assault. No background is necesary, since I intend to edit the photo.

I'd like an action shot, perferably from close to eye level of a minifig, maybe a little taller.

If you'd rather not, I understand. I just had a bit of a crazy idea's all.

Or did you want to see Fighter jocks in the shot? (ResQ Team) Let me know buddy, I'll shoot them as I shoot my rnd2 Moc (assuming I get into rnd2!) - Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Hi, I've just joined the G.A.I.A,
Now I have a few questions, what are the uniforms for exo force and GAIA?
And I'm making a cargo ship, its colour scheme is blue and grey, do cargo ships in GAIA have specific colours, like red hulls and blue?
Plus do all ships have to follow the same idea? Red hulls and blue decks?

Thanks!

Welcome Hayden!

Mate, basically if you have an idea, there is a way to fit it into the theme. Basically, the only do nots are in regards to GAIA and exoforce uniforms and colour schemes.

So to answer one of your questions, no, not all ships must be in red and blue. However, any ship that is a true Earth Force GAIA ship must be, and these are uniformed with Res Q Team mini figs.

Now
Ships that belong to their own non Earth worlds, but still under GAIA jurisdiction, are painted red and grey, and these are uniformed by exploriens mini figs.

Now where freedom is allowed in colour schemes is in the other world non GAIA fleets.

For example, take the planet of Argos in a solar system seventy light years away from Earth. They have given up a third of their fleet to GAIA roughly as per the GAIA treaty, which have been eventually painted red and blue and are commanded by Earth. This leaves two thirds of their fleet at home of which, half is also painted red and grey and part of GAIA, though used to patrol local space in conjunction with GAIA operations.

Now that leaves a third of their original fleet completely under their control, painted still in their own colours what ever they may be. This is upto you. Just think up a world's name, and apply any colour scheme to it you want. It can still be called a GAIA ship, but should be classified as a General Glass. ie no HMS.

ie using the example above, Argos has a third of its fleet in green and yellow vessels and one of them is called,

GAIA - General Class 'Argos Warrior'

I hope this helps. Best of luck, and feel free to run an idea past any of us. We're quite active here.

Cheers Marc :) So how's that capital ship going?

Well, at this moment Im kinda running in circles. I started with an idea for the conning tower (which looks pretty cool) and built the rest of the ship around it. The problem is that the conning tower dictates a certain ship size to keep the proportions looking good. And this brings the problems, should I build it as one big ship, or should I build it in sections for better transportability? Im stuck on the idea of making it separable, cause it turns out to be very long and wont safely fit inside the elevator if ever want to move it somewhere. :-S But, designing such a complex project with MLCad is a real pain, thinking of stability and how to make the locking mechanism of the sections work and solid enough to not fall apart... *sigh*

OMG!!! Hahahaha, YES! That is gorgeous Marc, I am so happy seeing that glorious hunk of space battleship. Pure GAIA at it's best mate :)

All mine have been built as one solid construct. I have often wished I had done it is sections, but the problem is that in section, you really can only place them together to shoot a shot, it would be very hard to make a locking brace joiner system for such heavy sections. You could do it, but it would require a whole extra level of construction. I never had a table long enough to allow this approach. I needed it to be solid so that it could hang over for photography - if memory serves. That said, my largest was 230 studs, if I was to ever try for 300 it would certainly be in 3 sections. Not sure how long this beast of yorus is, but I am sure it is at least 220 so yeh, not sure how you should continue. But in closing, teh shapes around this bad boy are just stunning.

I thought about that, but never wanted to spend the extra money for a second drive. Besides that, my computer is not that bad at all. But, sometimes (mostly when winamp is running), it simply crashes. Hmm. Well, now Im saving the MOC in two files, ensuring that the last save isnt older than 15 minutes. That keeps a possible data loss at a passable minimum.

I actually do that once I've uploaded the photos. Once they're in code, I save them in a gmail draft. That way if MP crashes while I'm editing, I won't loose everything. I usually load the pics for a scene, then work on the text, back and forth between MP and gmail. Then I stitch it all together. Saves a lot of cursing and desk pounding!

I sync everything automatically with the media center from my internet provider, Deutsche Telekom, now.
But, the good thing about the crash is that the rebuild is going to be much better than the first version. I always wanted to restart the MOC and was just too lazy. Kinda stupid! Well, after all, it is more a blessing than a curse !

Okay friends, some news from my giant GAIA cruiser.

The rebuild is 60% done.
50% make up the new front section, with some minor changes to its length, some hardly visible changes to the bows shape and the armaments.
10% make up the conning-tower, which was fortunately not lost! But, maybe Ill change some shapes here, too.

Still the whole rear has to be rebuilt...

Well, at least some progress.

Cheers, folks!

Cannot believe that it's been this long since talking here xD

My reasons:
1. Been in hospital a lot lately (Broken limbs, skin graft on my whole back, i was pushed into a bonfire, turns out some plonker had thrown sheets of metal in there, so hot hot hot hot!)

2. I had my GCSE exams all year, finished about a month ago! Happy days! only college left :p

OK!

Now, Mechaton Imperium's first bot will be made sometime soon i promise xD and i am taking a course in animation, so was thinking of making an animated series of GAIA :p

Who likes the idea of that? Parrington and chums, i may need a few pics of people and stuffs.

Out.

What about ground pounders? Support and logistical staff uniforms? I guess that other than the main GAIA uniforms that it is up to the individual planets or geo-lords to mandate uniforms and dress code? Correct?

G'day Ron, welcome to the fight. I started an art course this year and as such have been around less than previous years, but we are still active here. ( And to the rest of the gang many of my assignments this year have actually been based on GAIA, so I'm going to be gearing for a cool moc soon I reckon;)

Ron please try this link, it explains a fair bit. One of these days I'm going to do a concrete lay out of the whole theme, but for now, and for Lego, this page should help you out I hope :)
