Well I use Sharpie.
My steps are:

1 Get your sharpies.

2 Draw a picture of where you want to apply

3 Apply

4 Let dry for 5 mins

5 wash hands

6 done

Here's my material list:
Sharpies (Thin point and regular)
Purell
Spare legs/arms (In case I don't need to color them, but to just place a color on)
My mind

What I do:
1:Think of a good name for the clone.
2:Depending on the clone's name, depends on the color I choose (Ex. Blaze is orange, the color of flames)
3:I paint a mental picture of what I want the clone to look like.
4:I work on the helmet.
5:Then I work on the torso.
6:Then I finish up on the legs.
If I mess up, I rub a little purell on the piece I messed up on and keep going after getting the piece dry.

You can just use some rubbing alcohol to remove the sharpie.

Well, I don't use sharpie, I've only used one time for a minor detail, so I use decals:

1) Cut the decals

2) Apply them

3)Let them dry

4) OPTIONAL: Change the arm of the figure or put a visor...

5) This step isnt planned! I've writed cause...Oh forget it

Any questions ask me, I am going to post a figure today maybe!

Quoting Commander Jet (unit 6675)
I use quite alot of things.

-Scizzors (cutting visors)
-Sand Paper (for making commandos)
-Sharpie (coloring clones)
-Paint (also for coloring)
-Tape (so you don't get paint where you don't want it)
-clay (making a scout troopers mouth)

When you say for making scout troopers mouth what helmet do you use to make scout trooper.
