Bio Olympics!

Ok,I have been thinking about this a week, and I think it's time for us to start discussing it.

Last year we had a Bio Olimpics, but it was sort of weak and didn't have many contestants. Now,for this year was thinking we could do something really big and put some effort on it,so I'm creating this topic for us to discuss it and have it done at maximum three week from now.

Some topics I find it should be discussed:

-Judges:This is very important, and I think the judges should be selected among experienced builders such as many we have here,no rookies that give a 5/5 to everything, this thing is ought to be serious. We should have five,I myself would like to be one but I would prefer to be a contestant, but if needed I will be a judge.

-Rounds:We should have enough members to have at least seven rounds. It would increase the contest value, importance, and competitivity.

-Rules:Are going to be made by all of us most active mods and moderators, such as me,Chris,Porcratus,Monarth,Johann,Kai,Yuri and others.

-Prizes:Mainly Bragging rights, but could and should be discussed.

-Hosted at:We could either host it here or in another group.I would prefer another group since we would be able to invite many active builders to it,draggin their attention to it better. Also here there are many non-active members. And when I say non-active I mean mocpages non-active,not that they not frequent here a lot,but yeah,we have some of those too.

That's it for now,I'm hoping to get some feedback on this very soon from all of ya' mods and admins.

I like this idea. I think the time is good, since most people have vacations now, and wouldn`t have much to do. I think making a separated group is the best, since it wouldn`t get so restricted and, lets admit, this group is not so active as it was once(as a matter of fact, no group is)

About the judging,I agree about the experienced people, and I think 5 judges at least would be good(like in the molds of the MOCathalon). Makes for more competition, and better organization.
So yeah, lets do it.

Ok,as soon as other mods and admins heed the call I'll make the group.

Sounds like a plan, though even given that people are on vacation, doesn't necessarily mean they have free time. Should enough interest be generated I'll join in, however due to the proximity of my holiday next month, I won't be able to build anything. I should still be able to keep an eye on things so I can at least judge. A separate group for the contest works for me.

Doesn't the Bio Build Off Athon serve these purposes in function and concept? (granted it is still working out kinks)

Not really. This would be a bigger deal,a one time year event.Bio Build Off Athon is just another name we are giving to the contests that we used to host here.Plus we would make a massive "marketing" for this so we could get a lot of people to join.It is suposed to be the ultimate bionicle contest of the year,as they have for the other system builders, but for us,bionicle builders.People would take it more seriously, they wouldn't drop outr as our fella atraks did, without even trying to build something. As I said, last year we had it,but it wasn't really well thought out or organized,it failed to be a big contest and it ended up being a pretty ordinary one.

In other words,it's cooler.

It does, I think this will be much larger, including other groups and things to compete against one another

Hmmmm ok I'll continue with the bboa conest as I intended for it to be a simple contest that keeps on going. The eventual result I'm looking towards is a large scale contest as to what you describe is what I meant though.

In the bio olympics we don't have any sort of teams,it's every man for himself. What your talking about there is the mocatlhon. And yes,it will begin this year, probably in the next month.

i think it should be around September time so when its over just a few months is the real Olympics and it gives people some time to perfect some ideas also will we include that its in london or some new fictional bionicle world

Its been awhile since i have logged in at mocpages as well as BD group. In fact I had to think of 5 password to access my account. hehe.

Anyway, I have been reading some of the recent post at BD and most have been interesting to say the least.

I would like to give my thanks to the mods and admins as well as the members who are still very much active.

Anyway, if this biolympics gets push through I would be happy to join in as either as a judge or a ... hmmmm...a contestant perhaps.

Hopefully, my post of coming out of retirement will spur others to join in for this special BD contest. I do hope that the contest is still part of BD instead of a separate post though.

I would lean towards Kai's idea for the ownership based on loyalty alone, despite actually joined to several of the major Bionicle groups here. A separate group would be specific to the contest though, plus it keeps things tidy and non contest stuff doesn't clutter it up. That was my understanding in creating the contest group.

I will support whichever way it goes, since given the scale of the task, support from a number of people will be necessary to keep it going.

And ZOMG HARVEY LIVES!!!!!

Ahem, carry on.

This sounds like an awesome idea! Since it's summer many people should be able to participate. I'll definantly be able to.

I agree with the idea of a seperate group for this.

Let's hope this all works out.

Good. I think we should not give up the BBOA, but we must admit it doesn` attract many people as we would like, and this bio-olympics is a good idea to do so. Yes, it "owned" by the BD, but separated. As I have said, making it here would limit things too much, and the act of ivinting people tyo the contest group is already a good form of marketing. However, I think we should do it later, when the rules are already seettled. For now, invite the people who want to get involved in the making of it, such as Kai, Porcratus(?), etc (you can count me in, btw).

PS: Harvey lives!

I saw that going on. hd a good amount of participation and stuff, but the idea here is to do something bigger and with different rules and a more 'professional' organization(not criticizng the biothon organizers, but they were quite inexperienced)... we're still discussing it...

That's what I was trying to explain before, that the contest currently created serves this purpose. But some want to work towards a differently structured contest that is bigger.

they beat you to it, why not contact Chaos Masterand say that you would upgrade the rules and stuff, we could make a huge contest if we worked together.

I thought the Bio Thon was a copy of Bionicle Displays BBOA. It was made a week or two after the BBOA and, I thought, was very similar. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Bio Thon and Bio Olympics are quite different in set up, aren't they?

I'll have to go back and cross-check, so sorry if I'm wrong :)

Well, it had a team system, like the MOCathalon. Actually, I think it was more similar to that than to the BBOA...

I re-structured the BBOA after I saw how poorly it was doing, a fair bit of the time. (other times it worked perfectly well) I saw a chance to take what the BBOA was and turn it into a large contest that would in theory grow in size each time it was done as well refine it's rules, until, it became a simple standard large scale contest that was year round.

Yes the Bio-Olympics does have similar rules currently. It is different primarily in the amount of judges and scoring method.

Personally I won't be participating in the Bio-Olympics, not on the ground that I feel the contest I help build is getting replaced, but that the Bio-Olympics is so similar that the exact same rules and layout could be acheived here after some discusion on how to run it. Also so I can look after this contest to make sure it continues to run smoothly.
