ATTENTION: READ the new BD contest: BEST BIONICLE FREAK
 Group admin
Starting February 17, 2010 to end of March 15, 2010, the bionicle Display group is now accepting entries for its new contest entitled the "BEST BIONICLE FREAK CONTEST"

HERE ARE THE FAQ:
1. What entries will be allowed for this kind of unique contest:

Qualifications:
a. At least a 75% bionicle parts build
b. One may enter only one official entry(equivalent to one link only). However, an official entry can be composed of either a singular build or a dual build in a single link. For a singular(one build), it should not exceed the maximum height of 15 inches(38 cm). For a dual build(two) in one link, their combined height should not exceed 15 inches.

Example: Contestant A decides to make a 13 inch creation which will be accepted.
Example 2: Contestant B decides to make 2 unique mocs that he feels can go together. One is 9 inches in height and the other one is just 6 inches in height for a total height of 15 inches. This is acceptable as well.
Example 3: Contestant C decides to make 2 creation posted in one link. Both are 8 inches in height. As per rules of this contest, this entry will not be permitted as it exceeds the 15 inch limit.

C: A BIONICLE FREAK is defined as a mostly(75% bionicle creation) which is unusual and not the usual toa, ordinary rahi, ordinary titan that we usually see. Tips: you can make it asymetric(unusual limb size or uneven limb size) or weird or freakish but still recognizable.

3. How will the entries be judged?

The entries will be judged by Bionicle Display members during the voting stage. Voting criteria will be posted shorty after the contest. Of course since this is a best bionicle freak contest, the design with the most appealling freaky(a subjective term) to the most voters will win.

5. What will be the reward for winning?

Winners will get promoted. Additional benefits will be announced as the contest progress.

6. Where can I ask further questions?

You can post your further questions here.

7. Where can I post my entry?

Post your entry in a separate Official entry post.

8. How updated should be my entry?

Your entry should first be original. It should be posted only in mocpages. It should be posted from Feb 15 to March 15 only. A rebuild of an original prior post is not acceptable. However a moderate to substantial upgrade(a little cosmetic change will not do) is acceptable.

Well um if I posted my entry, say, today cause I thought it had already started is it still acceptable?

If it has wings, does that add to the height?

I will put up the official entry topic page on the 17th. So officially you cannot enter it yet. lol

However, all mocs posted from today on at the bionicle page can still be entered. All mocs posted beforehand are not allowed to officially entered.

If you can show the wings that can retract down below 15 inches, its accepted. If you cannot its disallowed. Same goes to weapons.

ok, this contest looks pretty good but I only have bionicle pieces, when you said '75%' was that at least 75% bionicle or does it have to be a mixture of bionicle and other lego? This is probaly a stupid question but I want to be sure. Thanks

75% to 100% bionicle parts on a build is acceptable.

Ooooh I've been waiting for this, and I'd just started to build a "Freak", this'll be fun...the leg is almost done...and it's pretty big already. EDIT: Body and legs are done, arms are underway. It should slip in right below 15 inches! On a different note, how will you know if the entries exceed the height limits or not?

I will know more or less as I study the parts use with or without scale. However, hopefully builders would need to honest though.

So my to-be entry is very mismatched, the color scheme is very jumbled, on purpose, and none of it is symetric. Isthis what yoou mean by freak, or did I misunderstand...?

Yes that would be acceptable. However, I advise you to still make your entry presentable and outstanding despite the asymetry in your design. Also this contest is not a multi color design constest, so there is no condition that colors need to be jumbled.

One question

If it's length exeeds the height limit, like my planned entry does, is it forbidden?
| February 18, 2010, 5:09 pm
Ok, I have mine done. But I still have a question that some other people might want answered: If you were to make a larger creation standing nearly 13 inches tall, and then made something like a snake or a lizard that stood on all fours less than two inches, but when standing on hind legs was taller, would be legal? What I'm asking is the height of an animal measured by when it's standing on it's hind legs or all four?

As soon as you are back in the BRC check out Necra Magna would ya. I'm sure you have a character that would fit the story.

Yes. Imagine the limit like a cubic box.

Alright. Well, I measured it, and it fits. Though I don't know for how much longer. I keep tinkering with it.

Well my entry is done, and, with the wings, stands about 18 inches tall. But the wings fold down and can be made to be only 15 inches tall. This is okay, right? I know the question has already been asked, but I just want to clarify!

Yes. Imagine the limit like a cubic box.

Though if you really think of it like a cubic box, then the diagonal would measure about 21 inches :P

As long as you show in one picture its wings can fold down, its ok.

I would suggest that you show in your main picture your creation in 4 legs and a few pictures on 2 legs to show that it is normally posed in 4 legs instead of a bipedad. However, please note that if its on 4 legs it should not exceed in 15 inches in length as well.

By "75% Bionicle parts build" is it allowed that we can use a non-System, non-Bionicle object? For instance...Maybe a little knob to a drawer or something, if someone used that as part of their creation (maybe as a piece of armor, a foot, ect.) is it allowed? Thanks!

Your entry is acceptable. It has mostly bionicle parts(the scorpio threads counts as bionicle parts). Don't forget to officially enter it though.

Isn't it over now? its the 16th so in some places its the 17th so wouldn't that mean anyone entering now is two days late

I've noticed something rather unfair happening with the entry sheet and the due date for all entries. The rules clearly state that it ends the 15th of March, yet I have seen three entries posted after that date. If I read wrong, or made a mistake, please reply, but I just wanted to voice my concern.

After reviewing your legitimate concern, I have reviewed the rules again. It says it up to end of March 15 which technically is March 16. However, since I have failed to mentioned what time zone we are going to follow, I suppose there will be some discrepancy on the actual date of a plus and minus 1 day. My entry was officially entered on the 14th so its clearly acceptable. Berial entry was posted just a few minutes after the 15th(mocpages time) or very early 16th of March(just 23 minutes after 15th of March). Rugop's posted his entry to mocpages since the 13th but officially ask that if he could still enter it. However, I read his inquiry a little late and answered back on the affirmative. Unfortunately, he posted it wrongly on another post which I transfered it the next day to the correct post.

Again, this is my interpretation of the rules, if there is another moderator or administrator that would object, I would overule myself.

Next time, rules will be stricter and will specifically mention that MOCPAGES TIME ZONE will be followed.

Ok, thanks for the clarification, I just wasn't too sure, and my mind didn't think about the time zones. Thanks!
