Bionicle Farewell Contest: aTribute to Bionicle
 Group admin
Welcome.
This contest is meant to be a tribute to the Bionicle building system and storyline.
Your goal is to revamp your favourite Bionicle character/set.
The best Tribute and the Best Build will be judged separately.

-RULES-
(Read them!)

1- Your enry must be a remake of an existing character, featuring its originial mask/head or a very resembling one.
2- Enter only new MOCs. No entry posted before Dec 4 2009 will be accepted.
3- Your entry can't exceed 13 inches in height or length.
4- You can only enter 1 MOC.
5- Only Technic/Bionicle parts. No system, no Galidor, no nothing.
6- Post the LINK to your entry in the according thread (http://www.mocpages.com/group_conversation.php?id=28&topicid=38311).
7- Use a background to take pictres of your MOC. White or colored cardboard, paper or a blanket will do. You may also clean the background digitally, if you prefer.(Make sure it's monochrome, and don't say you weren't warned).
8- Contest ends on January 10, 2010.

Judging

Entries will be judged in 2 ways:
- a "quality jury" will award the "Best Build", considering only building skills and look
- a voting booth will be opened for everyone to decide which one represents the "Best Tribute" to the Bionicle line.

Prizes
Best Build will become the next Group Icon (that's why I asked for a clean background). Both winners will get a promotion.

You can post questions/doubts here. Don't use the "reply" button on the Rules, thank you :)

Addendum to rule #5: It's OK as long as the parts are in doubt (like studless technic addons featured in System sets, or those 1-stud axles often found in Bionicle), bur CLEARLY System parts are forbidden.

So with the head I could make a mask with smaller bionicle pieces, as long as you can tell what bionicle I am remaking. Is this right? I will get started on my entry as soon as possible, thanks.

Yuri, you should clarify with regards to this. What is the difference between Best Build and Best Tribute? For the Best Tribute judging, what can and cannot a participant include on his page?

The same MOC will be judged twice: by the jury and by the voters. The 2 categories are only slightly different in concept: Best Build is just for building skills, Best Tribute is for the feeling it gives, VERY subjective. Of course the same MOC could well win in both categories, but the judges will not be allowed to vote for "best tribute".

Actually i do have a question. About rule #2 I was wondering what it meant...do you mean you can't post a previously posted MOC that was posted before December 4th? Or that you can't enter a Moc in general before December 4th? It'd be nice for that to be cleared up...otherwise a can't wait! This'll be the first contest I've ever been in.

This bionicle tribute contest is by no means just building an ordinary remake of a set. For me, it is quite challenging. I just finished my remake and it took me around 6 hours. I will post my new creation in a few days. Hope you would reconsider your decision to enter this contest.

I've made a Kiina revamp, of sorts. He's called Mezzigus, and has his own story in Bara Magna.
it all started with me finding a beard design for Glatorian, and, I ended up making him. He uses most of Kiina's parts, has the same weapons, and wears the same armour and helmet.

For his story, I think he'd be Kiina's grandfather, and passed on his armour to her. Would that be acceptable for the contest? I would just make an old version of Kiina, but that means no beard :(

We are glad to accept your entry. Your intepretation of your remake would depends entirely on you as long as you use his mask or he is still recognizable as a remake somehow and not an entirely new character. With regards to the name as long as there is a characters name attached(for others to know who was your remake) then its ok.

Hmm... this is a bit controversial.
I just got a Bionicle play set, and although it's indeed part of the Bionicle franchise, it's mainly a system MOC.
Although the rules state "only technic/Bionicle", they also state "No System".
I rule that it's OK as long as the parts are in doubt (like studless technic addons featured in System sets, or those 1-stud axles often found in Bionicle), but CLEARLY System parts are forbidden.

GAH!
That was my lifeline. I needed something to se for Onua's knuckles, and I'd dug into a Mahri playset for them. These things aren't allowed, following what you've just said, I imagine.

Let's say, hypotheticaly, that a person built a great, rule- abiding revamp of a set. This particular set is seen often in a particular picture. To add to the nonstalgia factor that is voted upon this person builds (out of completely Bionicle) a piece of scenery that is in the picture to photograph his revamp with. Would this person be within the rules, and how would he be scored?

I DAMAN TO KNOW hehehehehehehehehehehehheheheheheh

Sean Kenney originally opened this group (it was named "Bionicle") for Bionicle fans.
Due to his very tight schedule, he was forced to shave it out, and I found myself Admin.
To bring new life to this group, that was completely dead at time, I merged this one and my own old group (Bionicle Flagship Display, now closed), thus creating this "Bionicle Display" that you can enjoy today.
Then, I brought in BFD's contest winners as Admins (as you may know, promotions here are gained by winning contests).

It's a fine line there. Let's say that if its normal posture is within 13 inches, you can enter it even if it can stretch beyond that.
For example, if its neck can stretch, or if it can rise up on his toes, or if it's normally hunched but it can be straightened up, etc.
Note that wingspan is not included in rule #3.

I think the trademark of a rahkshi is it has some sort of spike on his back. The head is pretty simple so I think you can easily substitute the original with something and might get away with it.

I think the trademark of a rahkshi is it has some sort of spike on his back. The head is pretty simple so I think you can easily substitute the original with something and might get away with it.

Oh, ok. Also, is the deadline tomorrow night or tonight?

The entry is acceptable as long as it is officially entered before the end of the deadline.

hey yuri, harvey and any other admin that feels like answering. alex mac brought up i question about my entry.. its not one of the original 6 rakshi. there are many rakshi they never made or went into detail about. so i made my own bio about it. if this is a problem for the contest i will change it to be Vorahk. let me know thanks

In the rules at the top, it states that "any character/set" can be created, so I guess that implies that you could in theory build one of the other rahkshi mentioned in the storyline. If it is not canon with the storyline, then you cannot submit the entry.

On a random note, I am willing to bet money that my entry will get no votes, who wants to bet against me?!

Hiya, i have a question: When voting are we allowed to vote for multiple people, using the 1 point, 2 points, 3 points system, or is it strictly one person?

Plus, it's not an official set either, so it wouldn't count even if the deadline hadn't passed! I hate it when people don't read the rules!

I usually comment on MOCs for 2 reasons: 1- they're cool, well built and/or very origianl, and I give them a 5 or 2- they're not so good, but they are original and promising, so they show the builder's potential, and I give them a 4. Even so, I can't keep up with all the builders whose MOCs I like to see.
Be patient, you know I check out your page every now and then :)
