I guess the rumors are true after all. As a businessman myself, I understand their painful decision to move on. The bionicle stars was a last experiment that probably broke the cammels back. They tested releasing more expensive bionicle sets with cooler and more parts, a new movie and also released cheaper sets to appeal to younger audience, however it must have not been enough to reach their sales target to compensate for their marketing effort
.
Lego's decision to now work more with third party groups like Ben10 and some other TV characters in the future will most definitely
lessens their marketing expenses and cut their losses which they can't afford anymore since they have been in the red for a number of years.

As a recent adult fan of Lego, I praise Lego for the outstanding effort they did for the bionicle line. It is one cool toy line that made me feel for a few hours in my very busy workload a kid again, released my creative skills and most importantly helped me bond better with my kids more.

As this is the last bionicles, I will probably collect the rest of the remaining bionicles in the stores(even those I didn't like) as this will surely be collector's items in my mind.

It looks like the ben 10 figures are going to be made out of technic parts though, which will allow to some degree the making of bionicle mocs in years to come. new pieces can revolutionize technic building. and who knows, they might pick up bionicles again later down the road.

Ben10 is a more expensive toy line than bionicle if you view it part per parts ratio. With Ben10 there is less chance for them to come up with more and more aliens I think as the other aliens are not as popular anymore. So in my opinion, the Ben10 is only for 2010. Nevertheless, you are correct in saying you can combine Ben10 parts with bionicle in mocing as you can combine system parts to some degree.

There is no limit in mocing. Even without the bionicle toy line anymore, one can continue mocing as Lego has already released so many parts. If Steve Pucket was able to do incredible creations during the earlier years what more in the later years with more parts available.

But of course, it will not be the same anymore I admit. Slowly and surely, the bionicle universe and the fans will move on as there will not be anymore marketing effort on the side of Lego.

BZpower will probably evolve or worst case close down as they will be most likely hit. Mocpages has a stronger AFOL and other Lego enthusiast as well as bionicle mocist around as such will keep on continuing.

I have no plans of moving to building system. I might stay a little longer here until I post my last creation which I assure you should be at least mind blowing and never been done before in bio mocing scene.

Ok, I'm 32 and I really like Ben 10, and if the new figures will be LEGO compatible, I'll jump at the occasion :)
My only concern is about the availability of replacement parts, because Bionicle will remain an extremely valuable asset in technic builds, as well as in vehicle/mech/creature detailing.

But I've seen the Ben10 toy line and they have cool parts that can be used for biomocing.

I like it, because I'm used to see TV characters doing idi otic things and I always ask myself WHY.
Ben does the same, but HE at least is 10 years old! :D
(Plus, it's imaginative, very well drawn, with awesome coloring and a good rythm)

Ben 10 replace bionicles? No way! Ben 10 is part of Cartoon Network, and Bionicle is owned by the LegoŽ Company. If this is the end of bionicle, they should replace it with a new technic series called Roboshock or something like that.

Ben 10s not "Replacing" Bionicle. Ben 10 is going to be part of a multi company line that has lots of different things like Ben 10 as different sets, throughout the year(s)BUT there shall still be a Bionicle esque line, like what you said(Roboshock sounds like a great name)Or so the rumors say

I guess there not bad but I was a pure bionicle biulder, as in if I was to build a bionicle I would only use peices found in bionicle sets. I wont use these Ben 10 peices in my bionicles.

Keep MOCing! (Sob...sob)

There's supposed to be another theme too, but I couldn't find anything about it. Keep your hopes up :)

"Beginning in summer 2010, The LEGO Group will debut a new, more flexible buildable figure property created by the same people who brought you BIONICLE. At the same time, we are also expanding the category to appeal to a younger audience through an established third-party property, starting in January."

Ok here was the exact statement from Lego. The one starting in January is definitely the BEN10 line.

The new, more flexible buildable figure property created by the same people who brought you BIONICLE... is any ones guess.

Here is my guess on their secret summer line:
1. They will do away with stories, movies as these limit the fan base of the toy merchandise and hike up the cost of marketing expenses.
2. The line will probably be more targeted to younger kids of both male and female demography
3. The line will still employ bionicle and technics style parts, meaning connectors, axles, pins and some bionicle parts will still be used. It is also possible some few system parts might now be integrated.
4. The line will follow the LEGO CREATOR CONCEPT which means a set will include instructions where one might be able to make two or three creations using the parts. This means Lego is targeting mocist rather than character collectors. Example is a set where you can make a robot at the same time a vehicle using the set parts.
5. It is also possible the new line will give instructions of combiner sets on a set. Meaning if you buy a set, it will encourage you to buy another set so you can build an even better creation.
5. Unfortunately, I believe it will cost more than the standard toa set of bionicle as there will be more parts.
6. This line will lessen the risk of Lego as it now targets a wider audience from young kids to AFOLs and especially mocist. At the same time, its more flexible for more people. Most importantly, it will also be more profitable for Lego. They are banking that bionicle loyalist will migrate to the new line while at the same time non bionicle followers will be now be able to relate.

yeah, it looks like the ben 10 legos are okay, they are simpler, but they have some nice parts. my advice to everyone who can afford it is to stock up on bionicle parts while they're still out there. I'm most likely going to get a couple of ben 10 sets too, they are compatible with bionicle parts, so they can be utilized for creating newer, sleeker bio-mocs. change means progress, people.

Lego is loosing market shares not because of the economy but because of competition from other toys such as PSP, xbox360, Wii which corners the preteen and teen markets. For the younger markets, it can't compete with very cute toys which are always a big hit during the holiday season. Bionicle and even its Starwars line cannot as well compete against Barbie and Hasbro's Transformer line of toys(which is backed up by a billion dollar movie franchise). Basically, Lego needs to go back to its strengths which is its a toy that you can disassemble and make a new one of your own(a moc). In addition, it needs to tie up with popular character series like Ben10 which has its own followings. If you look at the Ben10 promo, there are not just promoting the Ben 10 aliens but also showing that one can combine these different Ben10 sets to make a unique alien.

With regards to Bionicles, it was a success during the earlier years as it was an innovative product. It was not your regular lego system sets and it had a story. After more than 9 years, it has lost a lot of its original fan base despite a new movie, a reboot(glatorians are an entirely new chapter and universe) and awesome sets. Apparantly, these stategies where not enough to revive the bionicle brand as such the decision of top management of Lego to change their stategies.

Meh. Yes, and no honor to small.

Lego started out with wooden toys. And moved up to flimsy plastic bricks (the First Lego) to the more durable bricks of today. And they have made many themes, and released the creativity in others. That, in my opinion, merits the greatest honor of all.

My only comment is that it was pretty friggin' stupid for Lego to end the Bionicle sets. It's their main profit, and basically one of few things keeping them afloat. Then they want to say that they've got something similar to it following close behind, but if it doesn't have eye-catching sets and a solid storyline, it won't sell well at all, and then they're screwed.

They actually look totally awesome. I don't think Lego will drop the whole "Bionicle compatible pieces", but just drop the Bionicle storyline (well, from sets anyways). So there isn't really anything to worry about, we should be happy! Bionicle pieces are taking a revolutionary jump!

Also, the Bionicle theme has been around for like, 9 years? That is a very long time compared to other themes, we should be happy it lasted this long. :)

Yeah. My only concern is for the completely new color palette of Ben 10 stuff. I hope the other theme will be more useful.

Oh, the colors are different? My concern is that it is more streamlined with fewer places to put pins and axles. Integration is possible but there will be limits. There are also these chest signs of the aliens that are bugging me. Hope these are just stickers. The hands, legs and arms are quite useful and can be easily integrated into a bio moc. Compared to galidor parts, these are much better.

There is no point being in denial. Lego has officially announced the end of the bionicle theme. It is also not true that the bionicles are presently making money for Lego. Bionicle is not as popular as before.

Nevertheless, don't give up hope. I'm sure Lego is thinking of a brand new theme that will replace Bionicle and most importantly it will be bionicle compatible.

I can't believe this, honestly they are making a big mistake!!! I liked it better when the Lego company didn't come out with a new Bio line every 3 days, but to discontinue it is like...like...like...is there a way to describe it? Perhaps if they had slowed down production then they would have done a bit better (odd thought i know but if you think about it..). The stars sets look pretty cool actually, and i have to get them, all of them, because...well lets face it, they're not making anymore...sob sob sob...

ya same with me i was in kindergarden when the first bionicles came out and i played with them for hours. i just only recently started to really build my own stuff- about two years ago. What i think is that lego should at least make canisters of pieces of bionicle to keep the peices going. My opinion on the ben 10 thing is this: I HA TE BEN 10. i meen the story is sorta du mb and the show is for 5 year olds according to me. I am pretty mad about how they are replacing the best lego theme with a 5 to 10 year old show. (no offence to people who like the show) I always wanted to be in the lego company as a little kid and desing stuff (not anymore) but that still would have been cool to be a bionicle lego set desinger... Im gunna ask for TONS of bionicles for christmas and if i dont get that much, im buying them online.

Oh, and btw, the LEGO group states:
"Beginning in summer 2010, The LEGO Group will debut a new, more flexible buildable figure property created by the same people who brought you BIONICLE. At the same time, we are also expanding the category to appeal to a younger audience through an established third-party property, starting in January."
So we can assume that Ben 10 is only the tip of the iceberg, and we will see more MOCable stuff next summer :)

and we are but a very small comunity even smaller than bzpower the #1 site for bio discusion whitch itself has no chance of wavering the minds of lego, a corprate company 'working' for the majority ,which lets face it, is seven to eight year old kids that know and/or care nothing for the story or how far its come. yes they may like it but in a month will find somthing new to ocupie their unshaped minds lego knows this so they are free to cacel the bionicle line and replace it with somthing on the same frame cuz they know that the majority will be interested

On the Italian site I only saw a preview. Ben 10 Alien Force is not out here yet, so it would be meaningless to issue a toyline.
Also, LEGO stuff usually gets here a few months later.

Look pretty much the same bionicle parts to me unlike ben10 which is more streamlined. I figure that TLC dumped Bionicle to revitalize their action figure line. The word "hero factory" allows younger kids to relate that it is NEW and an action figure. The word bionicle like zoids reminds many kids that its an old line. At the same time, TLC believe hardcore bionicle mocers and set collectors will just migrate to the new line. From a marketing standpoint, its an excellent move to revitalize its aging line.
