ok. so as you probably know, this webstie has Alot of talented mocers who love lego! but ALOT OF THEM are limited with their resources, and they are not popular because of that, and the people that are popular(no offonce, i mean it) are not noticing it. but nearing my 2 year mociversary, i have seen more than inactivity and unpopularity, i have seen stuff ranging from creations from when the site first opened with only 100 VIEWS, exposure but ignoreing(being seen but not noticed, all the way up to HURTFUL comments composing of thoughts like "this is a piece of junk!" and "you dont belong on this site!" and even "you used mega bloks! SHUN!!"

HURTFUL COMMENTS that are pushing lego builders into the dark ages of inactivity. and that cruelness some times carries into their everyday lives!
but i am pitching(i sound so professonal!) an idea for a group that will in a sence, FIGHT that(no violence)!

I am calling it "The Group for Unnoticed and Disrespected Mocer's Awareness"!
A GROUP that will take a stand against limited moc cruelty, and help people that have actually been effected.
when decided. i will post a speech to attract members and spread the word of the problem. and in some cases, key members of the group will join the speech.(national mall style)

to keep the peace and keep the group or movement or effect the entire site and put it in turmoil, i would like the Admins(Chris Phipson, Sean Kenney, Mark Kelso to join the group as admins.

so please help.
i know what it feels like to be forced into inactivity. and i want to put a stop to it for other mocers!

please approve.

Well, Tron, what you say might be a problem here on MP, but the driving force behind your proposed group should be YOU. The "popular" folks didn't just pop outta no where. It takes a bunch of time, effort, (and yes, BL orders!) to get noticed here, and remember, there are THOUSANDS of members just on this site. I would recommend for you to start the group, call in builders you feel that have the same problem as you, and just build!

Honestly, I doubt Ole Kirk Christian thought that LEGO would swell to what it is. I believe that I am correct in saying that MP isn't a way to get popular, but a way to be critiqued by other builders, and to share techniques and ideas. Being popular is only a side effect, and honestly, its hardly the biggest thing you need to worry about in the entire world of LEGO.

I don't want to be one of those popular people who ridicule you and your work (especially since I'm not all that popular), but I feel like this is at least a bit dramatic. It takes some really hard work and skill and often money to get popular. For some people it takes longer. I am not against this group, I just feel like the Admins don't really need to join.

Firstly, this is a help group, not a promote-my-group area. Rude comments on MOCs like you mentioned are already disallowed. The mega bloks thing you mention is people being humorous and serious, they don't ACTUALLY want to shun you. It's taken me 3-4 years to rise the popularity ladder in the MOCpages/Flickr community, don't expect it overnight. If you can't afford real bricks, making rainbow MOC's won't be noticed, even if they are good. Your LDD MOC's like pretty nice though, but it is harder to get noticed as an LDD builder. Be ACTIVE in group conversations, that goes a long, long way.

its not the fact that popular builders have all they need or good skills or popular creations, but sometimes they take that power for granted and insult everybody else who dont have what they have!

I have no idea if that's true or not, but taking clear photos is not an onerous demand.

It's a basic requirement.

Telling someone to put the camera down and use a timer, or perhaps a better light, is not a 'hurtful' statement. If it is, then perhaps the recipient should leave the internets for a few years and toughen up, because mocpages is definitely the shallow end of the internet pool.

Creating another rating-spam group wouldn't do anything to change that; cack is cack, even if it HAS been polished.

Some things should be downvoted.
Not all works are deserving of praise, and to treat them as if they are is to insult both them and the genuinely good ones.

You'll want to keep in mind that before 2008 there weren't really any limits on what could go in a comment.

Still not sure if the change is an improvement or not.

Sorry you are in an unhappy "mode". But I want to point out that people didn't get it over night. Most people slowly improve until they get popular. They actually started off unpopular. Look at this, my first MOC.

http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/225246

Not very good, ant notice not very many likes, right?

And now we have something like this.

http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/326940

http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/327409

MUCH better, and a lot more likes. It took me almost TWO YEARS to get from there to there, and it still isn't that popular!

It's not overnight, it's hard work and learning to take people's advice and apply it.

Oh, it's a fine build - for an eight year old.
There are certain expectations of a MoTD; doesn't excuse the behaviour, but it's to be expected.

Wut? I have no idea what that sentence is supposed to mean.

Besides, 'popular' does not, has not, and never will mean 'nice'. Hitler was popular too.

No, no they didn't.
Why don't we have a look at one of Phipson's oldest works?

This was posted early in 2008, and you'll notice that nearly all the comments are from more recently than 2009. In short, AFTER he became 'popular'.

Which he did mainly through being socially active: he's not exactly a Nannan Z, but he talks to people and they seem to like him.
I don't recall reading about him complaining because nobody comments on his c00l stuffz, so that probably helped.

If someone starts off posting world-class laygoez, it's a pretty safe bet they've been practicing for a while and you just haven't seen all the cack.
Because people don't usually post links saying 'hey, my stuff now is really cool, but take a look over here! Double rainbow-warrior all the way, man!'

First off, thanks to a long standing glitch moderators cannot lock threads.

Second, it's usually considered rude to order group staff to do a thing; if a thread needs closing, they'll do it by themselves.

Third: you may BE twelve, but please don't ACT like it. It's unbecoming.

MoTD is randomly chosen. That definitely didn't deserve it. I've build much better when I was that age. Not saying younger builders should be shunned, but it really didn't deserve it.

That's rare, they usually start off with spectacular builds in the first place, and they're usually AFOLs who also post on sites like Eurobricks. The average MOCer takes years to climb the ladder.
You need to join active groups (like i Brick), and participate a lot in conversations to make friends. Friends will make you and your MOCs more popular.

And generally (not you Areetsa) it's bad form to start a topic, not get your way and then demand that said topic get locked when the flaws in logic are pointed out.

It'll get locked... eventually.

okay, please forgive me for my behavior regarding this topic, its just i was SO sick of the unpopularity even though my creations are, forget color coding, PRETTY GOOD! and with ldd, I'm getting better and building stuff i could never do at this point at my life.and I'm also getting tired of how people that don't have enough bricks to build stuff get recognized but then get put down because its not like the other creations that are recognized.

I'm just one of those people who when they see something they don't like and they know they can do something about it, they DO something About it!!

(for example i sent a letter to Microsoft telling them they are messing up Halo and the Xbox one needs help) :)

so please excuse me if i offended you by saying the things i said. i notice now I'm starting to look like the whining 5 year old, only problem is I'm on the most Talked about group on mocpages so I'm not looking so good in front of everybody. i can tell this was childish.

i also want to thank you for putting your input on the idea and giving constructed criticism on the topic.

hope you can catch some of the cool stuff I'm planning for This holiday :)

Okay, here's the blunt version of what I'm going to say:
Tron, stop whining
Areesta, leave the kid alone

Soft-and-fluffy version:
Tron:
You're a good kid and will probably gain in popularity as your building and LDD-ing skills increase. It doesn't happen overnight, unless you build something huge and great and have a lot of friends you can ask to comment on it.

Areesta, I respect your views and I respect you. You're an impressive builder and seem an intelligent person.
To that end, start acting like an intelligent person and stop belittling a kid. You speak of being unbecoming, well that's what you're being right now.
That aside, as I said, you're a skilled builder .

I'd prefer if you didn't re-translate my comments for the slope-browed peasantry, ta.

They're not a pile of goat guts, to be sifted for mysterious signs and portents of future catastrophes.

What I MEAN is that he has an inflated view of his own abilities and that while eventually what he thinks and what is will start to resemble one another, I'm not going to be frantically f-5ing waiting for it.

Maybe three or four years.

He already knows rainbow-warrior mocs are a bad thing, because his LDD stuff doesn't display it, but he doesn't yet understand that the finest build in the world will still be unacceptable if every block is a different colour.

It's well understood that a white el337 cl0ne comm@ndr should not be photographed on a white background; colours are important, and how they're arranged is critical to a build. Not just to avoid blending, but also to avoid creating a surface that's too 'busy' to comfortably look at.

You can't just say "this thing I made is really cool! just ignore the way you can't actually look at it because it's built in an Alpenflage pattern".
