Piece Out Ripped Off
Join to comment
It has come to my attention that there's a group that's falsely portraying itself as the Piece Out group.

The link to the rip-off group is: http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/15995

Piece Out is kinda a big group and it's my responsibility to take care of it's MOCpages page, so I'd like to ask of the admins to remove the false group as soon as possible.

Thanks.

EDIT: The link to the original Piece Out: http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/17966

A link to the original group as well might help, Marko. :P

Thanks for the link - that helps with comparisons.

I'm afraid I don't see how they are ripping off the original group. While the name is similar (but not identicle), the purpose statements are very different, as are the topics of the threads,as well as many members and creations. Can you tell me specifically how they are "ripping off" the Piece Out - Bionicle MOCists, please?

For starters, they used the Piece Out logo as their group picture. I'm not a member of this copy group so I don't know what's going on inside it, but I assume the main complaint Marko has is that they're, well, claiming to be Piece Out, where they aren't.

Hmmm...by the time I got over to the site yesterday, their Logo was different. I wonder if they changed it at some point.

Anyway, there just doesn't seem to be enough similarity between the two groups for me to legitimately take the claim to Sean. While the words "Peace" and "Out" are in both group names, that's about as far as the similarity appears to go. And there are countless groups with very similar names (take anything with Star Wars or Halo in the title, for example). I just don't feel like there's enough evidence available for Sean to step in and make changes, based upon what I've seen in visiting the site. If Marko can point out something a bit more concrete, that solidifies the notion that they've ripped off the group concept, or attacked the original group in some way - then I can take it to Sean for his consideration.

It is always possible that the creators of the two individual groups may have just happened to have the same idea for a name (though that is unlikely... most creativity is inspired one way or another, and this case, probably inspired by the original Piece Out group)

But I too do not agree that the one group is "ripping off" the other group.

Perhaps it's just a group of fans FOR the Piece Out group.
Who knows.
The term "wannabe" comes to mind, but I don't want to sound offensive, haha.

I wouldn't think too much of it.

A group for fans of Piece Out seems redundant, as they could just join the actual group... XD
Anyway, the original PO was created by Felix the Cat a few years ago, and spread out a bit from the initial location (Facebook); this expansion included a MOCpages group. The groups became popular so I assume it's natural for there to be an impersonator.
I can see that there's no point arguing this, and besides, they aren't doing any harm to the real Piece Out group by simply naming themselves Piece Out. :P

I agree, though it may not be the "original" group, it isn't bothering anything.

No harm is being done from what I can tell.

Yes, I suppose a "fan group" would be a bit ridiculous, when you can always join the actual thing, but hey, I was throwing out ideas on a whim.

Actually Marko, that is a MOCathalon team from 2011. I went into the actual 2011 MOCathalon group and well here are the members (literally copy and pasted from the complete teams).

"Team name : Piece Out

christo1096 - TFOL - http://mocpages.com/home.php/31662
Felix The Cat - TFOL - http://mocpages.com/home.php/69721
Lord Oblivion - TFOL - http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/61043
Dark Templar - TFOL - http://mocpages.com/home.php/71230
Kahan Dare - AFOL - http://mocpages.com/home.php/71177

http://mocpages.com/group.php/15995";

As you see, the creator (Felix) and some other MOCists (probably from the Piece Out group as well) are in the team. Oh, and at the bottom is the group link. Which happens to me the same one you called "ripped off".

So yeah, not a fan group. I guess the members just chose to put "Piece Out" as their group title. But it's not ripped off.

...does this help Marko?

Again, didn't know that as I wasn't in the group (and additionally, I wasn't on MOCpages until 2012). I guess that Felix and the others decided to use the same group name for their MOCathalon team. Sorry about that.
