Sorry about the typo in the title it was too late to fix it XD Anyway, my problem is that whenever I try to upload these two specific images, the uploader says Done! but says none of the images actually could be uploaded. I'm using the simple uploader, which has worked for me all the way up til now.

Just tried with Internet explorer, I hate that browser, very slow and cluttered. Anyways it didn't work, I agree browser really has not part in this.

I use FireFox, and no dice with it either. And I just went through a whole debacle on getting Java 7.10 to work so that I could get the uploader running. I also tried the old uploader, and nothing. It's definitely a MOCpages issue.

Don't want to start a new topic for it yet, but is anyone else having MOCpages-related email blackout? For the past two or three days I've gotten no emails from MOCpages even when people comment on my MOCs or my favorite builders add new creations, even though I most certainly have those options selected (I've checked). All other emails work fine, nothing wrong there.
So again, is anyone else having a similar issue?

Hi, gang -

My apologies for the delay in responding. My work schedule has been kicking my you-know-what.

Anyway, as this is an area that I'm not real well versed in, and we seem to be looking at multiple issues. I'm going to flag this thread and pass it along to Sean for consideration. Meanwhile, I'll try to stop by later today if I can find the time, to test out a few things.

Hang in there...we'll try to get this sorted out.

He mentioned some server issues that he is aware of, and that's being looked into as we speak. May be the source of some of the problems.

He hadn't looked at this thread yet, but I got the impression he'll do that as soon as he's able.

To summarise: The uploader is not working. It is going through the process and then reporting broken links.

The email message system is not working. Activity is not generating the relevant emails.

The situation is global, everyone appears to be affected.

The situation started on Monday and has been consistent since then.

MOCpages is now running on multiple servers, if I understand Sean correctly. However, one of the servers is having problems, which seems to be translating to all of the issues we're discussing here. Slow loading, dropped images and pages, etc.

He's got a tech guy who's been notified, and I would guess has already begun work on the problem. Here's hoping it doesn't take too long...minor glitches we can live with, but this seems to be pretty wide spread.

To everyone who has reported issues, I'd like to say thank you, but to everyone could I also add, please be patient.

The issue is widespread, on going and affecting everyone, so "me too" and off topic posts aren't getting things resolved any faster.

Mark, Chris or Sean will provide an update when things are sorted, just sit tight till then.

Have you tried both uploaders (java based uploader and the simple uploader)?

Have you set the image sizes to aprox. 600 x 800?

Oh, right. Sorry 'bout that. I just can't handle the "crashes" and other problems on this site. I haven't been uploading any creations for almost a month (I seldom post comments and MOCs on this site all the time) but perhaps I will upload my latest creation when the problems are fixed as soon as possible. In the first place, when I first noticed the error, I thought it was my computer going crazy but it turns out after a while, MOCpages is crashing almost all the time and is having picture upload problems.

In conclusion, I will hang on tight but never let go until the errors are solved.

I wonder if a good compromise at least for now would be to make it possible to embed a photo from an outside source such as photobucket as your main photo. It seems odd that the only option for main photos is to upload one directly.

Hey MOCpages staff, thanks for all the work you're putting into figuring out the up-loader issue.

Related to the issue, I've got a quick question. I'm in the middle of running a fair sized contest right now (current deadline for entries is Sunday), so I've got competitors asking me about extended deadlines, etc. I'm just curious, at this point would it be possible to get any sort of estimation as to when the up-loader will be back up-and-running (so I have something to work with if it's not up by Sunday)? If not, I totally understand. Don't sweat it for my sake! ;)

Judging by the date of your first creation, you are fairly new here. You have no idea how bad crashes are here when they happen. We couldn't even get a full page to upload, if at all for weeks in what is known as the Great Crash of 2011. We had the Spamming Incident of Summer 2012 which made the servers run ridiculously slow while the MOCpages Staff was busy blocking them and rewriting the system's way of handeling new people so to avoid spammers. And now we are having this issue with both E-mail, and the Photo Uploader not working. But you must not have had any problem because we couldn't use those two for a week and then a week later, they stop working again. There is obviously a major issue and major issues seem to always happen to where something isn't working for a week or two. You need to not be so pushy. Sean is trying his hardest to do everything he can to get the site working properly. If the Moderators lived in New York and had no jobs, they would gladly give their time. The people who help run the website are really nice people because they are very giving of the spare time they have and it's almost all dedicated to this place. You need to learn some gratitude and patience.

He wasn't aware of the loading problems, however, and that's probably my fault. I sent him some communications a few days ago when the problems seemed to be accelerating, but numerous emails of mine this week have failed to go through for some reason or another...I don't think he got my initial communications about the loading problems.

BUT...I just sent him another email with the info (as well as a link to this thread), so hopefully he will be caught up.

Sorry for any delays that my own email problems might have caused. I know it's frustrating for everyone, and I really appreciate your patience as we get this sorted out.

Thanks, gang!

Hi everyone!

First of all, I want to say thank you to group admins for their work! I just read all your comments and I have exactly the same problem about uploading pictures. I am waiting for other update news. Thank's again for trying to solve the problem.

To answer Mark Kelso:

Yes, I tried both uploaders (java based uploader and the simple uploader). And all program work fine on my computer.

For the image sizes to aprox. 600 x 800, this is all fine.

For the browser, I am using Google Chrome

I tried to upload pictures this week and I realised it did not work.

Same here, I had a break from mocpages and only started again yesterday, and I've read through the conversation, an It seems to be the same problem that apparently occurred around a week ago (?), I think it is most or all people affected 'cus no one has uploaded anything in the last few days!

I agree that this is about as maddening as Peter Griffin singing Surfer Bird. But, please remember that MOCpages is run by Sean who VOLUNTEERS his time and energy with this site - the ads help to pay for the site, but there's no profit in it. If you feel you're entitled to more than Sean can volunteer, please feel free to go somewhere else, or create your own site for Lego enthusiasts; I'm sure you'll run it much better. There's the door - don't let it hit you on the way out.

Why don't you understand we're tired of your complaing. If you don't like it, leave. The site is going as fast as it can right now becuase it had a few things break down and they are in the process of being fixed. You either need to leave the website all together, or sit patiently. We don't need you to continue saying that this thing is still not working. We get it. We don't have a problem if you leave, but we would rather you not because there are only so many FOL websites like this where the people are great, and so are those who help make it function. Why can't you understand this when everyone has been staying calm and not blowing a fuse at the folks like you who won't just let the situation be until the situation is fixed. I don't care if you are 26 (the dancing wizard and other stuff on your homepage seem to suggest otherwise) you need to get your act together. Make the decision; sit patiently or leave.

I don't really know, but most AFOLs don't have some of the things you had. It was mainly the Wizard and the "I took this guy's test" things. There may have been the uber long lists as well. It was mainly the wizard thing though.

To anyone who posted "filler" MOCs while the uploader wasn't working, please remember "no pictures no moc" is the rule here, add something ASAP or take down the MOC. You no longer have any excuse for breaking the rules.

Have you tried both uploaders (java based uploader and the simple uploader)?

Have you set the image sizes to aprox. 600 x 800?

What browser are you using?

When did the problem start?

Thanks.

Sorry of the late reply,,,

I only tried java uploader. Maybe I got to try the other one...

Yes, the images are that size and it always worked.

I am using Mozila Firefox.

Sorry but I can't remember,,, I think January 10th, it started but them in 12th, it worked but then, after maybe a week, it didn't start to work again which doesn't till now. So I assume that the problem started again in 19th. But this isn't that sure.

How are things looking at this point? We had a huge glitch with loading images, and your own problems may or may not have been a result of the server difficulties. Images now seem to be loading properly, and if you're still experiencing problems then we can rule out server error, and look at some other possibilities.

I might recommend resizing the image to something no larger than 300 pixels for the group pic.

It had been a while since I'd added a pic to my groups, and I found - like you - I couldn't add my pics. Then I tried a couple that were 200 x 200 and both worked. Give that a try, see how it goes, and let us know.

A lot of us are moving to Flickr. It's a shame, as Flickr isn't just for Lego fans, but the crashes, and for me more importantly, the complete lack of communication from MOCpages, mean it's becoming less and less rewarding to stick around.

PLEASE Sean, let us know what's going on. It would a go a long way.

I completely agree with Ape (above). I fully appreciate that crashes happen and this is a free service, but the lack of information is the most frustrating thing. We are all busy and we cannot expect the Mods to reply to every comment, I banner informing us that the problem is known and is being sorted would alleviate a lot of frustration. I know this is possible as it has happened in the past. I much prefer MocPages to Flickr but I must admit I am using Flickr a lot more and I have noticed a lot of people doing likewise. Come on MocPages we love you but that love is beginning to dwindle. I say these comments out of respect for Sean and the Mods not anger.

Uploading images to MOCpages causes them to be converted to jpeg format.

Conversion to jpeg allows for a degree of compression vs quality and most people convert at 90% but MOCpages seems to convert at something that looks more like 75% or 80% probably to save space and/or bandwidth. The result is the images are always of a lower quality. Certainly the lowest I've seen of any of the main LEGO sharing sites.

Short answer: there's nothing you can do about it, at least not on the images stored on MOCpages.

You can however hotlink all but your main picture to somewhere else, like Flickr or Brickshelf, where the quality will be much better.

While the reduction in quality is noticable, it's not that bad, is it?

I find it tends to look worse on certain types of images, such as renders, but photographic images are usually not too bad.

Is there a particular image of yours which you think is bad?

Looking at your 3 most recent, both the large and full-size images for "two mini-figs" and "hunger games s1e2" look okay to me.

The one for "striving for mediocrity" looks like it has a dither pattern - possibly because you at some point saved it as a .gif file? When editing graphics you should retain the master in a lossless format like .png .tiff or your graphics software's own native format (eg. photoshop format) until you are ready to export the final .jpg file for uploading but you should still keep the lossless original as the master.

I understand this. It's not that there is any one in particular that is low quality, I just dislike the fact that it cannot be as high quality as I'd like. I'll have to get used to it, thanks for the suggestions though

I know how you feel, I'm a bit of a perfectionist too ;)

Some of it is just down to compression within the jpeg format, irrespective of what compression quality is used, so it's not necessarily a MOCpages issue. I find it hard in particular on my renders to get substantial areas of dark red or blue to continue to look good once they have been rendered in .png and converted to .jpg format.

As far as I know, BrickShelf lets you upload .png and it doesn't convert it, so you could hotlink to absolute perfect quality images (if you have them to start with).

I'm just using flickr for the time being. They do have an obnoxious monthly upload limit, it's only at 4% at the moment.

Hmmmm. I just tried uploading (after a long pause of no activity), using the simple uploader. I tried on my MAC mini, and after selecting all my pictures, the little window just, well, froze. I minimized it for a few minutes, brought it back up, and found that the window was blank. I did this on Safari. I haven't tried Firefox yet, but I imagine I will be greeted with similar fate. Dunno if this helps or anything.....

Due to Java problems with Chrome and Safari, and the lack of Firefox or IE to test it on, I have no way of knowing if it's working or not, except to try to upload a main picture with the simple uploader in Chrome, which doesn't always work even when the uploader itself is fine.
So... yeah, can't really help with this.

I don't know much about how the system operates, but my guess would be that they wouldn't show up. I'd recommend waiting until Sean has the uploader back on track.

Well, its good to know we have got almost everyone trying to fix this glitch. Eh, the site crashes every know and then. It's free people! Take this time as an R and R from constant building; take the "blackout" as an excuse to to build something out of your comfort zone, or study for that exam (its exam time for me, so). It means the uploader hasn't worked and the file request has failed to return an image.

Firstly, this post is a few days old, are you still having the same problem?

Secondly, what browser are you using? Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or something else? check to see if it is up to date and java is installed and up to date as well.

Thirdly, when you open up the uploader are you asked to block unsafe elements, click don't block, otherwise the uploader (BOTH UPLOADERS) will fail.

I've had total failure of both uploaders. Neither works and the fancy one says "inactive plug-in". The simple one just says "done" and no image appears

I'm using a mac and safari as my browser if that helps.
