Where's my home page?
Join to comment
Dear MOCpages team,

Recently, I decided to make some changes to my homepage. The problem was that when I came back to it the next day, it said 'thanks for visiting', instead of the custom homepage I'd set up. I put up a message on it saying 'due to a glitch, the homepage has been wiped, but I'll re-make the homepage soon'. When I did actually go to re-make the homepage, it doesn't work. Everytime I try to change it, it goes back to the edit page without doing anything else. Please, I don't want my homepage saying 'thanks for visiting'. I'd like my custom things to be there, so please fix the glitch! I've tried on several computers, so it's not my computer, its definitely the website.

I dunno what's up, actually, because when I visit your page it has the message you mentioned before.

Now its stuck like that. It happened overnight, and I've prepared a replacement, but now I can't change it from this!

Well you don't have a marquee tag... hmm. Have you tried editing your homepage on a mobile device or with a different web browser? Sometimes that works.

I'll try.

It's still not working! Seriously, why is it not working already? i've made a copy of the changes I'd like to be made into textedit, but I can't change the actual homepage! WHY?

I'm afraid I'm not the one to help with this, as Andros is far more tech savy. Maybe he'll chime in when he has an opportunity. Meanwhile, let me ask a question or two to narrow things down...

Are you able to see the preview page when trying to edit your home page, and if so, does it show the changes that you've just made?

Your page looks fine to me, it has the message about the glitch up and all that. Chances are your browser just needs to have its cache emptied, it may still be remembering old information.

That sounds rather strange. Have you tried clearing your browser's history?

Two things. First, it's not stuck on nothing, its stuck on the message that says it'll be fixed soon. And two, I've tried it on 7 different computers.

I'm having trouble understanding you. Let's start from the beginning...When you sign on to MOCpages and click the tab "You," what do you see?

I think I get what he's saying. Basically, he was able to post the message we can see now, but any time he goes to save changes that he's made to it, it returns him to the edit page. Am I correct, Declan? Now for my question: does it have you log back in to your account before it returns you to the edit page? If it does, that's just because you stayed on that page too long. If you copy/paste from Word or some other text program, it should fix it.

No, it returns me to the edit page. No logging in, no error messages, just a glitch. I cannot edit it at all. I've saved a copy to textedit, and I can't make it my new homepage now. THAT is what's happening.

Given that it doesn't seem to be a common issue like a marquee, or browser problems, I've passed this over to Sean. He's really busy this time of year, but I don't feel I can be of any help, and I'd like to see this resolved for you. Hopefully, he can help.

Can you edit your "due to some glitch" message at all? I don't mean edit it with your replacement new text that you have prepared, I mean simply edit it to add a single word?

If you were able to enter this "due to some glitch" text in the first place but cannot add the pre-prepared text you are trying to add then perhaps there is something in this pre-prepared text that is tickling some glitch in the system.

Does the text you want to add have any embedded html? Does it surround any text with < and > symbols? If you are using html, or you are uncertain, perhaps a typo is being misinterpreted and mishandled by the system.

You can't post the text here if it contains special characters, but consider going to pastebin.com, pasting your desired text there, change the exposure from "public" to "unlisted" (so other pastebin users don't get to see it) and post the link they give you here. This will allow only readers of this thread to look at the changes you are trying to make and see if they contain anything that could be causing a problem.

Also, some screenshots posted to a site like imgur.com are always useful (with links posted here). I for one don't quite understand from your descriptions what this "thank you for visiting page" looks like, or what else is on it - was that text you entered at some stage?

There is no "glitch on MOCpages".

Someone else made this change by logging into your account. I would change your password immediately and make sure you always log out when using a shared computer.

Editing and re-saving home page content is working properly as well. Without knowing what you are trying to add, I'll have to assume you are attempting to include disallowed or invalid HTML. Try just adding normal text first, saving the page, and then going back to add fancy things on a second try. And don't use HTML that you don't understand.
