If a comment is submitted for moderation and is subsequently rejected, is the poster informed?

I'm not talking about the "really bad words list" that stop the comment immediately. I'm talking about if you innocently use a trigger word on the other list in a way that might still allow the comment to be accepted after human moderation.

I responded to a comment 4 days ago and it still hasn't appeared, even though in my opinion it should have (even if it was moderated). I'm now left wondering whether to post it again, or whether the original might still eventually turn up.

It's very unlikely you'll be informed if a moderated comment is rejected, there are only a small number of mods so if like you say the comment is innocent then it should turn up sometime soon, the mods are probably busy.

If in doubt post the comment again without the offending word.

Hope this helps!

We've discussed this before, look around.

I did look around. Never found anything that confirms if a poster of a rejected comment receives a notification.

One of the older threads.

No, there is no comfirmation that your comment was deleted. If your comment is sent to moderation for us to personally check, we either approve it or delete it. The only way you'll be notified is if there's something REALLY wrong with the comment, in which case you'd receive a warning from us.

Also, we update the comments every day (we may miss a single day here or there but it's rare) so if your comment isn't showing up yet after 4 days, then there's a good chance it was either deleted by one of us or auto deleted by the system.

I updated all the comments myself over the last two days (and I'm sure Mark picked up a few stragglers in between) so we know there's no comments left in the que from 4 days ago. If your comment's not there, then it's been deleted.
