I have just noticed that my MOC has been knocked off the top spot of most discussed due to MEGA SPAM. This user http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/61333 Who has only posted one "thing" http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/307751 has spammed this creation http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/308268 to the max. Is there any way of getting this rectified? As I think is a little unjust...Any help appreciated :-)

Yeah, too bad he can't delete "Likes". I wonder if Sean Kenney will be able to do what he did to The Invisible Hand when it was spammed with 4000 likes.

The "spammer" also spammed this:http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/307266 to be the first in Accross MOCpages.

Admins, I highly suggest to delete his acccount before he spams more things and break more rules.

Hello chaps

My creation http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/307746 had been top of the "Most discussed" page for very nearly a week and was knocked down due to the forementioned spammer. It now appears one of the creations that had been spammed seems to be on "Accross MOCpages" rather than mine. It took me two months to build this and I was rather looking forward to it appearing on the homepage. Is there anything that can be done to solve this problem as I am a little upset at this situation.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

I hear you, Tom. Ever since my own work got hit, I've been frustrated with the spamming problem, and it only seems to be increasing in frequency.

Unfortunately, we don't have a very good system in place for tackling the spam. It can be done, but I'll have to pass along the info to Sean (which I'll most certainly do when I'm finished here).

Chris and I have brought up the spam problems with Sean before, but he's not been able to address them yet. It may be a time issue, or it may have something to do with the design of the site and some complexities that we can't understand. But he does at least know it's an issue, and hopefully we'll eventually have a method for dealing with it that doesn't require Sean to intervene directly.

Sean may have already seen this thread, but just in case, I'll let him know about about what we're looking at here, and provide a direct link to this conversation.

Okay, follow up here...

I just went back and looked through the links on this thread, and it appears the MOC with the spam has been deleted, and I'm not seeing any creations at all on the offending builder's home page, either. I'm guessing that this has been addressed, then.

Still, I'm not seeing your transport on the "most popular" or "discussed" sections. I'm really sorry to hear about all of this. I'll still touch base with Sean. I don't have any way of sending this guy a warning, but perhaps Sean will.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Thanks for the reply Mark!

John Fink has was spammed on two of his creations by the forementioned user, he didn't want all those false likes on his creation so he unfortunately had to re-post it. The current gun on Accross MOCpages http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/307266 was also spammed by the same user (I think this all happened on the same day). These poor guys have had to go through and delete over 200 comments on each of these creations.
I notice the one thing the spammer had posted has been removed. Not sure if that was done by a Mod or by him. I feel this guy needs to be repremanded as I have a bad feeling he will do it again and I wouldn't want anybody being in the same situation as me or the guys being spammed. I will leave it in your hands. Thank you for your feedback and your comment on my Transporter. Tom

I notified Sean of the scenario just now. If a builder has a MOC where one can leave a comment, Chris and I can give him the verbal lashing. But in a situation like this, Sean will have to go behind the MOCpages curtain and administer the Brick-justice.

Keep an eye on this guy, though. If he continues, I suspect he's looking at a ban. (Sean's call, of course, but that would be my guess.)

Do you mean someone is leaving stuff you don't like in your Neat Chat conversation? If so, no- that's got nothing to do with MOCpages. It's fighting 'outside the school gates' as it were.

Actually, MOTDs randomizes itself.

Getting MOTD has nothing to do with likes or spam. It just randomizes itself-Mods and admins don't choose.

not entirely true, to be MOTD the moc does have to fulfil certain criteria, which the admins have explained is a complex algorithm which to all intent and purpose is practically random.

But, for example, a MOC with no views or likes is never going to be MOTD, while a heavily spammed one probably is.

Not true. You're correct in saying mods don't choose, but it's random from the pool of MOCs that have enough good ratings. So all those people who go round asking for likes on one creation do actually stand more chance of getting a MOTD. Whether they've earned it or not is another matter

True, but I checked-they have been spammed. They have x number of likes, and way less people to be accidentally spammed.

We (mods) don't have a capacity to delete individual comments - otherwise I'd get rid of that particular one.

Can you let us know if you see more of those kind of comments from him? He doesn't have anything on his homepage, and I don't feel comfortable deleting the account from just one infringement. But, if the behavior continues, and we have a record of it, then we'll delete his account.

Thanks for the "heads up."

I looked, and he has done NOTHING wrong. And he's also been inactive since 2009. I don't see the point in reporting him. You can rate a creation without commenting, and for the creations that have around 40 comments and 200+ likes, they were all 2006-and before. From what I have gathered the site worked differently and it can lead to strange carry-over numbers such as these.

the point is jealousy as far as I'm concerned.

the figures "don't add up" because most of his mocs have been blogged all over the net, they are that good.

There seriously is nothing suspicious there IMO.
