The ads aren't added there by Sean. They are from Google and are based from where you live. In Sweden, we don't get the same ads as in the USA. But if they are inappropriate, they should be removed.

Two words AD BLOCKER, and set the settings to block it! :)

Sean don't want us to use ad blockers. Mocpages gets paid by the ads, and if you block them, Mocpages won't get paid.

Yeah, the 2nd one has popped up a lot. But you can't post links for it because it often appears at pages only the member can see it. d blocker equal no Mocpages. So that is out. Really, any time I see it around, I just quickly hit the "you" button, and I am out.
True some ads are really bad, but some are actually creative. I have seen one about the hand race thing, which was cool. So really, I agree that while the 2nd ad is bad, if you will look at the inaprortiet thred, you will see I posted a similiar comment, and there is an answer to it.

take a screen grab next time it appears, host that on a photo-sharing site like photobucket or flickr and link to that here.

no need to link to the ad itself as let's face it, if it is SO inappropriate you really don't want to go there.

if you are not sure how to do a screen grab, try googling for it.

The mods have asked us to alert them to inappropriate content. The topic needs to be left active so we can add evidence.

True, she is clothed, but not fully. And also, while th women is a problem in the ad, I don''t think she is the main concern. What the ad is advertising and how it is doing it, by using unfriendly kid words and a girl, is what the problem is, in my opinion. And it doesn't matter what game it is advertising, it just in appropriate for MOCpages. But no matter how much we bicker, the final decision to get rid of the ad belongs to the big man. And the big man is Sean Kenney, not Santa Cluas.

and by ALL of them I don't just mean the previous one. Austin isn't a mod or admin, his opinion on whether the ad is appropriate (while valid) is not the final say in the matter.

And since no one has, as yet, actually provided any evidence, the matter is far from closed.

considering the age of some members here, I'd say the use of the term "roman orgy" might be considered not age appropriate, so I think the suggestion it is inappropriate is still valid, clothes or not.

Well, I still maintain that the Roman Orgy ad needs to be taken down, there have been a few more "questionable" ads around. Cheifly, an ad called "Rich World" or something along the line of that. Now I know that MODs will say that it just depends on your idea of it being wrong, but I really can't say that it is the best ad ever. Also, last night, if anyone noticed, was there a strange and massive attacks at the ads? Almost all were the Roman Orgy ones.

ads for the most part have nothing to do with the host site - ads that are displayed to you are based on what you look up so everyone stop blaming MOCpages and start blaming your browsing habits.

Mr. Roach wasn't being rude, he was simply stating that MOCpages does not choose which ads are shown. When we see one that is TOTALLY wrong, we do what we can to have the ad company remove it. Sometimes we can, sometimes we can't. Ads pop up on your screen based on MANY different criteria. One of those criteria is based on what you browse for. Yes, they REALLY reach far out in the terms of what you've searched for vs what they show you, but there's always an element of your browsing habits within your ad results. So if you search for game stuff, they're going to get this Roman Orgy thing (since it's attached to a game) and pop that one up on you.

Now me... I've got a Frosted Flakes ad here on my right... Wondering when I searched for tigers or cereal last...

since it's your browsing history which creates (some) of the ad choices, might I suggest the following.

1. if you have google tool bar on your browser click the wrench symbol and select search. Now un-tick the boxes marked "send usage statistics to google" and "store search history on my computer" and select save.

This will now no longer provide google with the search history to provide targeted ads.

anyone using the latest version of Firefox will not have google toolbar, and I'm not sure if is available as an app for iPhones.

2. again for firefox users install adblockplus, (I'm not sure if there is an equivalent for iexplore).

3. go to tools in your internet browser, select options. In privacy, unselect "remember search and form history" and save.

this might help.

It's when you get that ad on the right and the Roman orgy one on the top ad space that you should probably start to worry about your browsing history. ;)

To back up on the fact that your viewing history affects the kind of ads, I recently visited the London Symphony Orchestra website, and for while now, I've been seeing their ads on MOCpages. However, I don't think this is the case for all the ads. I mean, I think it is quite impossible for everyone to be searching the same things. Thus, I highly support any means possible of removing or dealing with inappropriate ads!

you can't. OK Ad space is rented through 3rd party companies to MOCpages, Mocpages (and its admins/mods) do not control those ads, the ad agency does. Now which ads a visible is based on a complex algorithm, usually derived from your viewing history, (other websites you visit), search history (subjects you google for), and key words you are typing in the host website (ie what you are talking about here). If you do not want ads at all, you need to get an adblocker (however MOCpages' admins have stated previously they don't endorse this). To restrict which ads you get, you can TRY disabling your search history from being monitored via your security functions, view mocpages in private browsing, or clear your cache. Non of which is guaranteed to avoid all "bad ads" but may limit them slightly.

If you do see any more (and by any more I mean ones which have not already been reported) take a screen shot, host it on another picture sharing site like flickr or photobucket, post a link to the screen shot here - AND WAIT FOR AN OFFICIAL REPLY.

Debating the issue or adding "I've seen that too" is pointless and doesn't help.

Ok, this is how it works.

You absolutely can't remove/block/lock ads. If you do that, MOCpages doesn't get paid, and I'm thinking that you might have to pay for something you do on the pages, like (probably) add a creation.

So just pretend there aren't there, and you will be good to go. Hope this gives you some advice on this thread. Maybe, I think your parents might not want to lock all of the ads up, they might not know how to do it.

are you serious? It does take money to run a website, who do you think pays for the servers the website runs on? it isn't free.

The internet is a business. Just because MOCpages doesn't charge members to join, doesn't mean that they run this place for nothing - advertising pays for the place to exist in the first place.

I can't believe anyone thought that the place was completely free. That's incredibly naive.

I'll add to Andros's wise comments. MOCpages is not a charity. It is a free service we should all be very grateful for. I actually think it deserves to make money. Maybe then they could pay people that kindly volunteer to help with the running of the site. Not to be rude Calvin but please think before you post comments like this.

some ads are "genre" specific, for example, if you search for star wars lego, they assume space based games will interest you. If the page you are looking at refers to lord of the rings, they assume you will be interested in world of war craft.

It's the advertisers that are at fault, and while MOCpages could complain when they provide ads which are for entirely the wrong age group, it is unlikely it would make much difference as this is only one of hundreds of websites those advertisers deal with.

Ok to sum up - as clearly we've gone round in circles again here.

To mods - can you do anything about ads which clearly are aimed at an older age group than the average MOCpages member? yes or no.

to members who are offended by ads - we know about the roman orgy one, evidence is further back in the conversation to explain WHY it is inappropriate. adding "me too" posts doesn't do anything to solve the problem. So unless you see a different "inappropriate" ad, kindly leave the conversation alone

to members who aren't offended, can't see the ad or just plain don't care - ignore this convo, your contributions aren't helping.

As we've said time and time again, there's really nothing we can do about what ad shows up where. It's based on your browsing history so if you like things that are related to video games... then you get the games ads... and sometimes those include our now famous "Roman" one.

Really... I don't even look at the ads. I look over now and I have a Frosted Flakes one again. My advice is to just ignore them. They're only a problem if you focus on them. Sean has put in requests to not show certain types of ads on mocpages but sometimes, when it's one little guy (Sean) talking to a faceless ad company, there's not a lot that can be done.

My advice, just concentrate on the Lego instead of the ad banners.

(And Andros, you know I'm not talking to "YOU" in this situation but to the group in general)
