Tons of people spammed this i dont even think it deserves even half of the likes it got 3 diffrent people spammed like 100 times each
We already know that. He also spammed one of Gringat the Repugnant's creations. I don't think there's anything the Mods can do about spam. Permalink | November 11, 2011, 6:44 pm |

3,000 visitors, 75 likes and only 12 of them were active members and only 15 comments? seriously that looks a little suspicious.
That said, if this has been blogged elsewhere on the net most if not all of those extra likes and visits could be genuine.

That one is okay. But thanks for checking on it.
As for the spammed pages, unfortunately there isn't anything we can do about it for the time being. I've asked Sean about setting up something, but that's still on the backburner I think.
I've started a list of spammed pages. If you and the rest of MOCpages wouldn't mind keeping us informed of others that you run across, I'd greatly appreciate it. My thought was that the list would at least be a good starting point, and give us an indication of how bad the spamming is.

On the topic of spam, I've noticed a few people re-loading mocs.
Mattia de Maio purposely uploaded this three times, but accidentally deleted the second (don't believe me? Google translate those italian comments) http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/296947
Daniel keeps removing this from the build the drawing group and re-submitting it even though it shouldn't be in the group just for the likes. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/294310 Permalink | November 27, 2011, 8:40 am |

Then ban them.
This shouldn't even cause you to think twice.
This sort of stunt is why the ban feature EXISTS. Permalink | November 27, 2011, 9:40 am |

have to agree with areetsa C, if it's against the rules, ban them from the group. If you can use the term "keeps doing it" to their actions, asking them nicely is not going to make them stop.

could the mods take a look at this account please. he's suspected of deliberately spamming. Since he doesn't appear to have any mocs or joined any groups, I'm inclined to think it's a second account set up deliberately to get mocs onto the home page, inflate likes counts fraudulently or otherwise be a troll/cheat.
I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Andros, any chance you can lead us to pages where the spamming has occured? We need some evidence of activity to be able to pursue this. Meanwhile, I'll see what I can dig up.
Thanks.

I've noticed the Mattia de Maio re-post issue too, 3 days running. I've noticed he has done it before as well. I previously added him as a favourite but i am considering removing him especially if this happens again. I'm sure people will be thinking the same so it doesn't do him any favours.
The second issue is easily fixed by banning the offender.
I realised yesterday after i had posted a MOC that someone had added 5 or more so called creations of severely defaced minifigures, you know the star wars ones that have been ruined with sharpies and playdough or whatever they use to decapitate Legos lovely figures. This really bugged me as he could have just added them into one post. The only kind of comments he had were "epic" or "awesome". When they clearly should have been Eugh and Yuk.
I beleive the homepage should be for creations that have taken time, skill and creativity, not just a slap dash minifigure that my 5 year old niece could put together. For this reason i have started to be a bit harsh (but imo fair), if i believe the creation is not worthy of the homepage ie only took 5 minutes to build i rate it good with no Like It. I hope you guys don't think i'm mean but there are more deserved people of the homepage coverage.
Anyway rant over.

we need to make a distinction here. Some "impatient" people are pressing the continue button multiple times and thus creating 2 or more duplicate comments. While this might be deliberate in some cases, it is just as likely an accident. What isn't an accident is when that person, or the person who owns the moc they did it on, chooses not to delete the duplicates.
There is however another scenario, where the same person visits, revisits and continues to revisit the same moc over and over with different comments each time. Unless you are in a conversation there is NO reason not to go back in and edit your own previous comment, if you have more to add. These people ARE spamming and there is no question of it.
so to recap, not every double post IS spam, but repeatedly posting on the same moc is unnecessary and is being assumed to be SPAM by those members FED UP with SPAMMING.

Why even rate it 'good' if you think it isn't though?
The rating system has 5 possible entries; I use them all.
If a creation took 5 minutes, for me it's never going to get above a 2/5 rating.
The 4 and 5 ratings are pretty much meaningless now, but nevertheless I'll keep ploughing on using the full range of 5 smilies
even if I'm the only one left doing it! Permalink | January 5, 2012, 8:54 am |

This is very true Ape, but i really don't want to break a kids heart. But you are right i will be even more harsh. Sometimes the truth hurts but i'd certainly rather that than be lied to, or have to see a load of rubbish on the homepage.

Thanks, Andros. That alone is enough for me to have a "talk" with him. If you run into any new ones dated after today, please let me know, and we can build an arguement for his account deletion. If he shapes up, then he's welcome.

Yes, it has be done sensitively. However, when a 13 year old opens a MOC or page with 'Yeh, I'm pretty awesome at making cars, this is the best Mustang on MOCpages' or something to that effect, well, then honesty is going to win the day ; )

What's a spam?
I class spam as being:
"unwanted self promotion", such as "please, please, please look at my halo warthog".
"repeated" comments, such as posting "I like it" 5 times in a row.
"multiple" comments, particularly off topic, in the same MOC or conversation (as opposed to editing the previous comment to add the additional information).
"advertising", particularly non-lego related advertising.
"nuisance" comments, normally unwanted or repeated comments, generally self promotion or bullying. text speak and leet.
Anything that has no real point to it and is intended to annoy or cheat, such as exploiting bugs in the likes counter that registers multiple likes from the same user.

hmmm, and since that is ALL the activity that particular person has done - I'm guessing that is someone's second account, and they have done it deliberately, either as a favour, or more likely from the title of the moc, as a dare. "ohh I know what would be really clever, pick a moc someone asked for no spam on and spam it onto the front page".
pathetic.

this is the guy who did the spamming, seems fairly deliberate to me. No mocs and he hit continue 200+ times, either a dummy account just to cause trouble, or a newby with sticky keys - my cynical side is going for door number 1.

well it is possible to set up windows to repeat key strokes by changing the settings, not sure how and I don't use it as it is just a hassle when typing. But what I actually meant was keys that are actually sticky, as in have jam on them or something, so they don't pop back up while you type and register multiple hits. But it was actually a joke...
fact is 200+ "i like it" posts is unlikely to be an accident. Permalink | January 28, 2012, 7:21 am |

Yeah, I doubt that person did that by "accident". I mean, who has THAT slow of a PC to click "continue" 200+ times? And not post MOCs on top of that... Permalink | January 28, 2012, 7:25 am | |
