Private Messaging
Have the 'rulers' of MOCpages ever considered adding a private messaging system?

That and a chat feature have both been discussed at length by us. Sean's decision is this. MOCpages is a Lego sharing website first and foremost. Sure we have groups and comments but the main focus has always been sharing Lego. It's been decided that while we will have some aspects of "social networking" the main focus should be on the Lego side of things. Plus... there's a LOT of trouble that can be gotten into if there were a way to "privately" converse and to put it quite simply, that's not where we want this site to go.

Thanks for understanding but if you want to private chat or stuff like that that has nothing to do with Lego, there are plenty of sites available for such things (facebook and so on).

I agree, it would be nice. But, with the large age range it won't happen. You can't have random adults being able to privately message eight year old's.

I think a PM on Mocpages is a good idea. If we have something to say to a person but don't want other people to see it, then PM would be great, many people don't want to give away their E-mail.

If you want to send a message privately, comment on one of their creations what you want to say. Once it's added, delete it.

Well, how about a comment section directly on one's home page?
Kinda like YOUtube channels, where you can either leave a comment on a video, or on the main channel's page itself (I.E. if you want to talk about the general situation instead of a specific video/MOC).

at the moment HERE that is still public. Sorry but this question has been raised and the admins confirmed months ago there are no plans for private messaging or chat rooms.

if you want to talk to other members in private you need to use email.

Ehm... who are you again?
Oh, and where did you see me saying anything about private messaging or chat, exactly?

firstly - what! "who are you" how rude.

secondly - you offered a suggestion for private communication that is not practical on this board as it is currently built. My comment about chat rooms and private messaging was directed at the discussion in general - ALL options have been raised previously (yours included I suspect) and the answer was: "Sorry not going to happen at this time".
I was attempting to be helpful.

Thanks for reminding me my help is neither appreciated nor needed.

This isn't just directed at you A.T, and banter is always good, but I feel that these message boards, where people offer suggestions to the MOCpages Admins and Mods, become quite nasty in their responses.

Not from the admins or mods themselves mind, who are (usually) exemplary in their conduct, but from us 'ordinary' MOCpages users.

This thread, and many others, are perfectly innocent, raising very good points of feedback - and often responses are either very dismissive (e.g. 'Well I don't care if there's no favourite builders counter therefore your idea of implementing one is pointless') or downright rude.

Yes some threads are annoying and have been done a thousand times over, and it's great we can all offer suggestions and advice to one another in such cases, but the manner in which it is done is often hovering more around the grumpy teenager level than that of a thoughtful caring community member.

I totally get where Yuri is coming from (above), and he's a seasoned veteran of the 'pages. New members may be quite daunted by some of these threads - they are not very encouraging in many cases.

Well that's my two pennith - I appreciate my view is no more valid than anyone else's (probably less so than most in fact) - but this has been bugging me a bit.

You should have simply posted it without using the "reply" button, and generally speaking your reply sounded a bit too high on authority (hence the "who are you" bit).
Glad this was just a misunderstanding :)

to be honest I agree, some people (myself included I suspect) have allowed our frustration to infiltrate our replies.

the problem is that no one seems to take the time to investigate their own questions before they ask them. For a seasoned member of many boards, not just this one, I can tell you that that is considered very bad practice.

however I get your point, shooting down someone's ideas isn't good form and I apologise if I've offended anyone.

thanks for understanding, and as I said in my last post, I apologise if my replies have been overly dismissive.

And the above is what sets apart the good members of MOCpages : )

GROUP HUG!

Ok, this convo's over for the time being. I'll go ahead and close it down.

But rest assured that we DO read your suggestions and many of them are being taken into consideration but... some of them just aren't practical for a site like this.

Thank you.
