This happened to me on some computers before I got a Mac. My windows laptop, and my friend's desktop refused to run the 'fancy new uploader' system. It's just a matter of trying different computers 'till you find one that works, but probably the newer the better. Alternatively you can just use the simple uploader. This is the only reason I can think of.
