Hey guys,

It's that time of year again so here we go.

First, let me just say thank you for signing up for all this. It's gonna be long and drawn out but luckily, we've been doing it for a few years now so most of the kinks have been worked out.

I'll get some threads started so we can hammer out the details of what we need. We can use this thread for regular, general convos...

Welcome aboard!

Dates:

How does everyone feel about opening the main group next week sometime (like... Wednesday or so)?

Also, start date for round one? Sept. 5th was my first thought but if we want to keep it on a 10 day build schedule we'll have to make round one a little different. It takes more than "monday through Wednesday" to get round one judged, scored and then everyone put into the brackets. Or, should we keep it starting Friday through (second) Sunday and just have an extra week in between round 1 and 2 (not the best solution, but we'll need time).

Thoughts on this? I don't want to have an extra week in between rounds 1 and 2 but getting 100+ mocs judged and players put into brackets in three days?

What do you guys think?

I think the extra week will be necessary. I know I won't be able to judge that many models in three days.

We could start it on Monday the 1st and go to the 10th. Then start the second round on the 19th back on schedule. That'll give us eight days to do everything plus it'll start all of it on a holiday. That way we can get bombarded by inane questions, religious hang ups, and lame excuses all in our day off. Yippee!

Okay, now this is getting silly. I think we should rename it "matt"eration as all my comments seem doomed to travel there.

Shortened version:
Start date of 9/1 (Labor Day)
R1 end date of 9/10
R2 starts on 9/19 - back on schedule.

8-9 days to do everything.

If not a full extra week, a few extra days at least. I agree that it would be a stretch to finish that judging in 3 days.

I invited Nick Barrett to join our merry little band. Just one more judge and we'll be good to go!

If I'm not around tomorrow when he joins up, could someone give him admin access please?

Thanks

And welcome aboard Nick!

Hey guys, I'll get the group ready and open it up tomorrow night (so basically, Thursday morning).

I'll put all the dates and basic rules up. Is there anything special I need to include? Of course as soon as you guys join up I'll make you admins... kinda goes without saying...

Alrighty, see you all tomorrow.

I invited Mark McPeek to join us here in the judges lounge and have given him Admin status in the main group.

If I miss it or he comes in before I leave for the weekend, could someone give him admin access here when he arrives?

Thanks!

And welcome aboard Mark! Good luck... you're gonna need it...

I had this idea for a category for the final round tonight.

How about a Princess Bride category? (I don't know if movies are allowed in the final round?) Since the last round is sorta a "duel" between the final two, they could build one of the two swordfights from the PB.

What do you guys think?

Welcome aboard Mark! Don't like the PB idea, if I'm honest... Scooby Doo for the win!

To be honest with you, I can't stand Scooby Doo. But as they say, to each his own... ;)

New category: mine is bigger than yours! Build a monster, any monster, bigger than the monster your opponent builds.

Oh, this I like. Maybe not bigger, but maybe fiercer or deadlier. Mr. loophole would want to just throw together a rainbow-warriored huge creation and then whine when their larger creation lost.

I agree, but changing it ruins the joke .... But fiercer is better, oh master of the menacing sculpture!

Hmm... Is it just me, or are the sign-up rates lower this year than normal? I haven't noticed nearly as many prolific builders signing up as compared to other years.

Eh, still have a good week for sign up plus those that enter the fray late in the first round. Might get more interest when we open up a smack thread.

Chris, you might want to advertise this over on flickr. Some builders strictly stick over there except for the MOs and the MAs.

I was thinking the same thing (about Flickr). Maybe some advertising over there would help? I don't have one so I'm not much use when it comes to that. Maybe we could ask Ian. He did a good job last year.
