Superspy, Matt, Stuart, Ron... I bow to your amazing skill and perseverance, and welcome you to...

Round 4

I don't know how many of you noticed, but this contest is entirely Yuri-themed.
Up until now, your themes have been things I love to build: minivigs, BioMechs, Thinships, Spinning Tops, gory MOCmurders, and in lesser measure nano ships.

The finals will be about stuff I love to see instead.

The mechanics are simple: you four will face each other both in the semifinals and in the finals.
The winners of this round will compete for 1st and 2nd place (for the REAL GOLD plated and REAL CHROME plated trophies), while the losers will also compete in the finals for 3rd place (and the REAL COPPER plated trophy).
So all 4 of you have 2 more matches ahead of you.

These are again direct matches, with a direct you win/you lose judging.

And the the theme is...

- Dramatic score -

Space Playset!

Create a Lego Space Playset.

Requirements

- Original color theme (bonus for including a fluorescent color: neon green, neon orange, trans medium blue, trans bright green)

- A main base complete with garage (+ rover) and hangar/launch pad/whatever (+ scooter/small craft)(NOT a diorama, up to 1k pieces)

- One medium size air/space craft (2 to 3 hundred pieces) and one small size land craft/mecha (100 to 150 pieces), all in theme.

- One medium-large size enemy land vehicle, with a different theme, easy to tell apart. Must be able to deploy one or more flying vehicles (3 to 6 hundred pcs).

- One minifig per vehicle, plus 1 or 2 to man the space base, preferably in theme.

- Must have modular functions, with recognizable parts interchangeable between individual builds.

- Must have that "could be an actual set" feeling we love in space MOCs, bonus for a "I'd buy the sheet out of this if it was a real set" vibe.

- Round 4 starts NOW and will end on... let's see... it's a lot of work, how about April 15th? Ok, April 15th it is, MP time.
Some of you are also in the M.A. so I'll give you some leeway if you really need it, but only if you ask BEFORE April 13th.

EXTENSION GRANTED TO APRIL 25

BTW you can totally switch the sizes of the land and air vehicles if you want. I won't edit the post because it's flagged and thus a pain to change.

That's a couple of thousand pieces tops, I don't expect any of you to have trouble with that. I expect easy but cool stuff.

Yes, where'd he go? I guess SuperSpyX will be back though - he seemed pretty difficult to eliminate back in DA last year.

I have to say, I was disappointed to not make it into trophy rounds (and lets be honest we all entered to win it all) but I realized that making it 3 rounds with builders like you all is a great showing for a first contest!

It's alright Ron! Just breathe. Nice easy breaths. In. Out. That's it! Be one with the Lego. Breathe. It'll be okay. Yuri couldn't possibly be asking this much of you. Breathe. A full base and an enemy AND vehicles. Breathe. A couple thousand pieces, that's all. Breathe. Actually several thousand pieces and modular, too. Breathe. Isn't the loss of sleep worth it. Breathe. You'll have so much to show for it. Like, for instance, your masterful breathing skills. Breathe. In. Out. In again. Easy. XD

It's actually 2050 pcs + minifigs and accessories, and that's only if you choose to stick to the maximum count in each build.
I think it could be done under 1.500, and still be a rad playset.
I can't understand how one could be stressing over this, we played with Legos most of our lives, this category should be more fun than challenging.

I think the deal is that I tend to way over analyze. I had the same problem coming up with a new color scheme and build for the CS contest hosted by the Davids...non-epic fail. I am not surrendering! Just breathing for a bit...

Hey Yuri, could you add a week extension? Work has been really busy and I haven't had much time to work on my entry. I do like that it has a lot of separate parts to it, I can build a rover if I only have a little time, or work on the base if I have more.

Ditto.

The MOCathalon was draining and I've only had a couple days to really hammer on this. I only want the time if you allow Ron and Stuart the same consideration though they were not in the MA. I do NOT want this to be given just to X and myself. I prefer equality here.

Sorry X, didn't mean to sound like I'm excluding you, I'm not. ;)

Thank you Yuri for whatever you can do, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Taxes? Pah, I had those done ages ago. (Mostly because I have one job, no dependants and no weird stuff like house or car payments.) Don't worry, I have some great stuff planned for my entry! (Hint: purple)

My taxes had to be in in January, and I wasn't even in the MOCathalon, but I'm still mighty glad of the extension. I've built most of the vehicles but makig slower progress on the base. Glad I didn't go for purple this time!

I finally made some solid progress on my entry. Just to clarify, modularity meaning the base can be reconfigured, or meaning it has modules that can be shared with the vehicles? BTW, my second mociversary is coming up on the 16th, so I'll have to whip up something quick for that too :D

Happy MOCiversary! I ain't Yuri, but as for modularity I interpreted it as wanting modules that can be exchanged among the vehicles (like the original Blacktron I/II lines) rather than a reconfigurable base. But I expect you could do either.

Hey, in all seriousness...some things in real life have raised ugly heads and I will not be able to finish nor get this posted by mid-night tonight...I doubt I will get to do so for the next few days. I will not ask for an extension either, but I will say this, I will post it when it is done and done right...Yuri, you are worth that much and Matt, I doubt I would have won against your amazing build anyway! I never anticipated making it this far to say the least, good luck in the finals! ...and by the way, your little anime girly chic with the smash brothers hammer? Send her over...

Okay, I uploaded my half-finished piece of junk, if just to say I put in an entry. I don't expect it to win at all. Life, Job and Family are the most time-gobbling things ever. Hopefully I can make a good entry for next round, if it isn't too demanding.

I should probably say that this round was quite disappointing, but honestly I can't... Matt and Stuart's entries are both imaginative and technically perfect! I'm geeking out!
Thank you guys for you effort!

As it is, Matt and Stu are going to face each other in the final round!

3rd place is a bit of a problem though. On one hand, an incomplete entry which doesn't meet the rules, and a (supposedly) complete entry which won't meet the deadline. I'll let you know.

I'm very glad to see that the effort I put in writing the categories and the various rounds' mechanics inspired some of you to produce some of the best stuff I saw on the 'pages.
Take a breather, check back in a couple of days for the final theme! :)

Stay tuned!

Well then, this is the solution I came up with: if you wish, you guys can finish up your r4 entries within the time limit for the next round, and compete with your final product for 3rd place.
This will be valid only of you both agree to it.
I have a plan B, but it's more arbitrary and I don't like it very much.
You let me know :)

i had an idea for the next round, it may be a bit self serving but i thought it might help guarantee a good showing for the final round. bring someone back from the eliminated pool! and make 3rd place a battle among 3 for that spot. leave spots 1 and 2 as they are (they definitely earned it this round) this of course only works if its a new theme all together.

I would prefer a new category. If you want, you can certainly bring back a previous contestant (it is your contest after all). I would also be happy facing off with Ron for third place with whatever category you already had planned.

Ok then it's decided. You will get 3rd prize as long as you don't drop out. You can choose to either finish your r4 entry or build in the final theme, if you deem it more fun.
