Round 2 matchups!
 Group admin
Welcome to round two of the 2013 MocOlympics! Congratulations on making it this far. This is the first of the "one on one elimination rounds." Below you will find your matchups with your opponent and your category.

Dates and Times:
Round two starts NOW and will end at 11:59 pm, MOCpages time on Sunday, September 29th. No entries will be accepted after this time. If you do not have your entry posted AND added to the group pool by the deadline, you will forfeit your match and your opponent will advance.

Title:
Your entry must be titled: MocOlympics (may be shortened to MO) round 2 "you" vs "Your opponent." You may title it anything you wish after that but that must be the opening of the title.

Category description:
Near the TOP of the entry you must state what category you are playing in. Feel free to simply copy and paste your category from this thread or type in the title of the category, your choice. Unless your category specifically calls for it you may only build ONE moc per entry. This does not mean that you can't have multiple parts to the same entry. What we're trying to avoid here is if the category is cars, you can't build 7 different cars, only one. Any clarification needed just ask in the question thread.

Links:
Preferably somewhere near the top of your post, you MUST have a WORKING link to your opponent’s page. If you post first then linking to their homepage is fine. If you post second, please link to their entry. You do not HAVE to change the link to their entry after they post (if you post first). That is your choice. You do NOT have to have a working link back to the main MocOlympics group. You’re free to add it if you wish but it is NOT required.

You must add your entry to the group pool. Once you add it to the group, that's it, it's OURS and NO changes may be made. If you make a change and we find out about it, you will be disqualified and your opponent will advance to the next round. We STRONGLY suggest that you get feedback from others and make any needed changes BEFORE adding it to the group. The judges will NOT look at it until it's added to the group.

Once you and your opponent have posted and added your entries to the group, the judges will vote on the mocs. There will be three judges for each matchup (divided by the brackets). You must receive 2 out of 3 votes to advance to the next round. The judges are NOT required to write full, detailed comments with their votes (but may if they choose to). The only thing required by a judge is which moc he’s voting for. Each judge’s decision is final.

Your judges are:
Brackets 1 and 2: Mr. Xenomurphy, David Alexander Smith, LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist

Brackets 3 and 4: Chris Phipson, Ian Spacek, Annie Corder

Bracket 1
Blake Baer vs jamesuniverse:
Apocalypse now
Build a vignette based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (war, hunger, disease, death). It is up to you how many of them appear in your moc or how you interpret them. But make sure that they (one or some or all) are visible as some kind of character. Don’t build just a war scene, for example.

David the Fire Ninja Jedi vs Zach "gothambygaslight"
This Means War: What if LEGO rescinded their policy against modern warfare? Build a set (or a line of sets, if you dare) for LEGO's inaugural military theme.

LWC guy vs Jacob Huppi
Nursery Rhymes
These deceptively innocent little poems often conceal darker meanings. Select one of Mother Goose's classic verses and give it a modern twist. How would Hollywood portray the rhyme?

David. vs A Sargent
Inventable: Build a futuristic gadget that would make life easier, in 1:1 scale (lifesize).

Halhi 141 vs General X (aka SuperSpyX)
Looks good enough to eat: Build a Lego meal (one to one scale). What's your favorite food?

Ru Corder vs Simon S.
Siggy Sunday
Everyone needs an occasional day off, even LEGO sig-figs. If you don't already have a signature figure, this is your chance to build one! Show us what activity your siggy enjoys in his or her spare time. Be as creative as you'd like!

Jackson Williams vs Garrett A.
Pummel them Judges!
Not feeling too kindly towards the MocOlympic's judges? Don't worry, it's a common occurrence around this time of year. Here's your chance to give them what for! Create a MOC of yourself wreaking havoc on the judges.

Mark McPeek vs Andrew the Jedi Ninja
Gadget Mad
Show us what happens when an already loopy inventor goes entirely off the hook. Does he go the Bond villian route or is he more goofy like Dr. Doofenschmirtz? The crazier your inventor's creations the better for you!

Bracket 2
Elliott Feldman vs Maik Fentzelt
Once upon a time in a distant future
Build a scene from a classic fairy-tale (preferably something like Brothers Grimm but doesn't have to be) but here's the twist. This scene takes place in the future. How would Rapunzel's hair work (or not work) in space? Does Little Red Riding Hood use a space bike to try to escape from the clutches of the space wolf? Show us your futuristic version of one of these kinds of classic tales.

Lego Junkie vs Saequis (Sam M)
Fairy Fail
In which Fairy Tales meet the cold hard reality of life. Let's face it, Prince Charming could never really win 'em all. Not every distressing damsel gets her knight in shining armor. Pick any classic Fairy Tale, only this time, show us a rendition where things go...painfully wrong.

Chris Roach vs Barrett K.
On that note!
Pick a desired piece of music, listen to it carefully, and then create a MOC artistically representing it in LEGO. Select something non-lyrical perhaps! What we don't want to see is a typical rock band standing on a stage.

Justin Knelsen vs Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!)
Eureka!
Pick one famous inventor (past or present) and build a scene depicting the moment of them making their invention. You can go back all the way to the Stone Age (who was it again who invented fire?).

Nick Barrett vs Brick Savage
"Lovecraftian Lore: H.P. Lovecraft was one of the most influential horror/sci-fi writers, creating the infamous Cthulhu and inspiring the popular Alien films. Build a Lovecraftian MOC, be it a scene from one of his novels, one of the many things he inspired, or even something of your own in his style."

Ben Merrill vs Luc Johannesen
Elementum
These days there are boat-loads of LEGO colors, but a decade ago the pallet was rather sparse. Create an entry using only the fundamental colors red, yellow, blue, black, and white. It can be any creation/genre you wish but it must ONLY contain those colors.

Pif 500 vs John Moffatt
If I were a Rich Man
Stop fiddling around and show us what your dream house would look like in LEGO form! Would you live in a villa on the ocean? Or perhaps a cabin in the woods? Would you have a pool? A trampoline? There is a lot to consider!

John Daniels vs Bob the inconceivably invincible
Smack MOC?!
One of the MocOlympics' trademarks is the Smack Talk Thread. While it's all good and fun to verbally batter your fellow contestants to pieces, what if you actually used pieces? Build a MOC of yourself somehow "smacking" your opponent.

Bracket 3

Deus "Big D." Otiosus vs Grant Davis
Wildlife
Build an animal of your choosing (does NOT have to be 1 to 1 scale but can if you wish) and then photograph it outside in nature!

Delatron 3000 vs Stephen Boe
Olympian
Build a LEGO figure (from your country!) competing in some Olympic sport. Be it pole vaulting, bobsledding, or that one sport we're all still wondering about...ah yes, curling! We want to see what kind of athlete you can bring to this year's MocOlympics!

Mohamed Marei vs commmodore legolas
Hitchcock
You're not going to believe this, but before the age of zombies, there were thrillers without boatloads of blood and gutsy jazz! Build a scene from one of Alfred Hitchcock's gripping masterpieces.

Stormbringer vs Werjedi °
Biblical Build
Whether you believe in the Bible or not, the Good Book is full of incredible stories. Select a Bible story and recreate it in LEGO.

Matthew Oh vs Chris Stone
Brains vs. Brawn
What unfolds when athletes and geeks go head to head? Or should I say, arm to head? Build us a battle of mind verses muscle. Who do you think would win?

Stuart Lucas vs Master Shifu Leo J.
Deep in the Depths
Hollywood has speculated about the ocean's depths for years, but what do you personally think dwells beneath the surface of the earth? Be imaginative and show us what kind of fantastical idea you can come up with!

John 55555 vs Justin M.
Museum exhibit. Build a museum exhibit based on a real-life example. Maybe a dinosaur skeleton and museum lobby, a life size replica of a Bronze Age sword or a Roman mosaic. Anything that would actually BE in a museum.

Eli Willsea vs Zoltán K.
Tough Luck Tourist
Traveling in a foreign country can be a wonderful experience or a horrific one. Stepping into a different culture, with a different language, is otherworldly. Depict a clueless tourist accidentally making a big mistake.

Bracket 4
matt rowntRee vs Green Ghost
Sci-fi before the 70s. Star Wars and the slew of films/TV series that followed changed the way we thought of Sci-Fi. Return to a more innocent age, where saucers and Flash Gordon rocket ships ruled. In other words build a sci-fi MOC based on a sci-fi film or tv series that aired prior to 1970.

Legopard vs Lando L. Jackson
Landmark
Build a landmark that is famous for your city, state or land. No size restrictions, you can build it in micro, minifig or miniland size. A photo or a link to a picture of the original landmark is required.

That Steam Guy vs Alphonsus Liguori
Alternative Models. Back in the day Lego sets were packaged with images of alternative builds on the back of their packages. Choosing one of three classic genres, classic space, classic castle or classic town, build a top end set (those sets which as a child it took a birthday or Christmas to obtain), and three alternative models you might have found on the reverse of the box, built from its fixed set of pieces.

BrickMaster Tommy vs James Mckinnon
Five things I want to do before I die. Everyone secretly has a number of things they want to have ticked off their bucket list before they go. Build five scenes of those as yet unfulfilled options.

nik ramage vs Anamir Daughter of Denethor
Cryptozoolpgical proof. Build a scene that proves the existence of one of those long standing monster mysteries.

Eric Rathke vs Josh Walter
Story Time: Build a series of events from a book or film in the form of a story tower - a 16x16 vignette or smaller with multiple levels, and a different scene from the story on each level. It's been a while since we've seen story towers, and those things can be very cool if done right.

Adam Brunsting vs Garett Smith
Build one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world: Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Colossus of Rhodes, or the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Finn tegotash vs Grant W.
Do they bug you?
Build a moment in the life of a bug. All kinds of wild things happen to bugs, what with us humans blundering about!

That's it. Good luck everyone!
~Chris.

Meh, we get plenty of food (at conventions), praise, applause, bribery, and tributes (especially you Chris, your Siggy makes an uncanny number of "honorary" appearances each year). That said, there's only one option left: serenade. So...what you gonna' sing for us Garrett? A concert hall with you singing for the judges is just what I had in mind for that category. Don't give excuses as to why you're going to lose, produce a moc to show that you deserve to win. I know you're capable, show everyone else that you're here to compete for the grand prize.

No defeatists attitudes here, they don't match the drapes. ;)

The category is fairly specific in that it should be a classic space set, but if you think you can make a UCE build fit, I'm not going to say no. It would be a risk when it comes to judging though. My advice would be to try and build something we judges would recognise as a classic space, town or castle set.

I find that if one says they'll win they get cocky and lose miserably. Stating in comments that you'll win or lose, belie e it or not, affects the way you build. This man speaks from experience.

Remembering well your entries in the 2012 MIT and having followed your path to victory there, I am looking forward to viewing your take on this category. For my alternate building category, I've finished and photographed the main build, and my first alternate build is almost done. Boy, building sure goes a lot faster when you don't have the luxury of rummaging to find the best piece and you have to work with what you got!

Sadly, I won't be able to get my entry in time. Preparation for uni has gotten in the way of my favorite thing in the world. I didn't have enough time to get the required pieces for my entry (I have a very limited supply of System at hand, which means I would have had to order every single part that went into it). The category was rather challenging, especially for someone like me who pretty much always makes Bionicle anyway, and with my shameful lack of the parts necessary. Therefore, congratulations to my opponent, commodore legolas, who has made an awesome entry. I'll be cheering you on. Perhaps I'll be more ready next year.

So I am sorry to say this but I am not going to be able to produce a creation for my category. There has been to much stressors going on in my life with school and sports that this had become a time crunch for me. I could produce something small but not up to my standards. I hate to say this but if I did put out this creation it just wouldn't be up to my standard that I build on. So thanks for the competition judges and for making the MO again this year. I hope to be back next year for this again.
So long!

You changed it?

Quoting General Rules Yes there WILL be prizes for the winners. Prizes will be awarded to the top 4 players PLUS the TFOL/YFOL (age 14 and under) who survives the longest (unless said T/YFOL is one of the top 4 then the prize goes to the next highest placing young builder in line). If there is a tie for the longest surviving T/YFOL, a tie breaker match will be held to determine who the prize is awarded to.
