Speaking in tongues is discussed in 1 Corinthians 12, 13 and 14 while Paul is talking about the use of different gifts and proper order in worship. There are two different things that may be in mind when you say tongues. One is when you can suddenly speak in a language you never learned - e.g. if I suddenly start speaking Japanese. This happened on the day of Pentacost, when the disciples were filled with the Spirit and went out and started speaking in the streets, and men from all over could understand them. The second sense of tongues is what sounds to earthly ears like babbling, but may be a heavenly language. This is sometimes called glossolalia, and may be referred to in Romans 8:26. The passage in Corinthians could be interpreted to mean either sense of the word tongues, though 1 Cor 13:1 implies that both are in Paul's mind "...if I speak in the tongues of men and angels..."

These are not strictly clear passages, but it is an overstatement to say there is no mention of tongues in the Bible.

I, sadly, have not recieved a Gift of the Spirit. But my parents have. My mother has spoken in tongues on multiple occasions and my dad occasionaly recieves visions.

I could start speaking jiberish right now.. And that would be speaking in tounges. If it were possible, we would all be profits.

Do you not understand? Speaking in tongues is not prophecy. Also, speaking in tongues is divinely inspired. You don't think, "I wanna speak in tongues" and poof, you speak in tongues. It only comes when God fills you with his presence and glory.

I have seen visions from God. I was raised very christ-like, and never lost hope in the lord

If it's not a prophecy, what is it? Just praying in God's language or something? If that's it, then I see no point in speaking in tounges in the first place. And to be honest, it doesn't seem like something God would give. It's even somewhat superstitous.

Well, read the Bible. That's all I can say. God gave us the gift of tongues and if you don't believe then you don't really believe the Bible.
