2012 Apocolypse

I have always been curious, but how many of the people here believe in the December 21, 2012 Apocolypse?
Personally, I believe it is something to watch out for, since it has been predicted by Nostradamus, The Maya, and (correct me if i'm wrong) the book of revelations. Whats your opinion?

I believe that the world might end at that year because they say a comet is headed for earths orbit.

Too slow to be a star, eh? Rules out a satellite that reguarly orbits that way. Maybe it's a planet. Or it could be a comet... You wouldn't be able to see an asteroid though. Too small.

Hmmm... Yeah, the Myan calender is a perfect prediction of all days, hours, moons, you name it. But it ends in the middle of a minute on December (21?) for no apperent reason.

Sorry, that was me. I went back in time and accidently distracted them from the calender with my time travelling blue box. Lol.

ok, are you thinking of the meteor that will come during the Tribulation...Revelation 8:10-11
(10)The third Angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water - (11)the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waaters that had become bitter.
and im pretty sure we arnt in the Tribulation

.....Although being somewhat lacking of what's left of my psyhic powers, I predict that half of Earth's population will commit suicide in 2013, primarily because the world didn't end 2012, ROFLMAO. And yes, I do have psyhic powers, altough because I almost never used them at all when I was young, so they became practically dead. -_- I miss my psychic powers.

There are no such things as psychic powers, just like theres no such thing as magic. We are Christians for crying out loud....You should know that.... --Hunter

True-er words have never been spoken on this group. The world could end right as I type thise, though chances are less than one in decillion. (deca=10, those who aren't taking latin). I personally don't think it's going to be 2012, because if I had to choose a date for everything to end, it would have been June 6, 6 A.D. Would have worked perfectly, but it was only 6 years after Jesus was born, so the New Testament wouldn't even have been written yet...

7 signs or 7 sins? Because I'm sure there's plenty of both, at least here in America's youth. Standard clothing at my high school is pretty sinful, by bible standards. By atheist standards, it's just plain tasteless.

But remember that website, I'd like to see it for myself.

Why do some people always say that everyone turns to a zombie? We WON'T turn to a zombie, we will be blinded for about 1 or 2 seconds and when we see, we are somewhere else. That's what my mom said.

A zombie is a corpse that is forcfully drawn back to life, often in voodoo. so no we wont turn into zombies probablly

the book of revalation speaks of judgment day when fire rains from the sky(asteroids)
nostradamus predicted many thngs that came true(dual carriageways, 9/11 no offence intended)
and the mayans have been proven correct by scientist.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of being good in life so you can go to heaven? I mean heaven on Earth, sounds great to me (because if all that religous stuff turned out to be true, I'd have no choice but to beleive), but then what happens when you die? You just chill proper on Earth/Heaven until Jesus brings it back up to where ever heaven is when it's not on Earth?

You lost me. I'm not a walking bible. All I'm saying is that heaven is NOT on earth at the moment, and never will. I was just relating earth after Jesus comes back in a metaphorical manner relating its qualities to heaven.

Same with me, in a way. I do not think it will happen so soon. And if it were to happen so soon, how would people be able to predict the year, the day, and the month. There are some, er, wacko people out there, and even though they think that they may have recieved a revelation from God, they might have just been, er, hallucinating. That's not to say I don't believe in private revalation. And there was something else I was gonna say, but I forgot it. (lol)

okay the whole 2012 thing has as much credibility as Y2K. why would Revelations predict when it happens when it outright says only God knows? the only sources for the end of the world's exact date are pagan (like the mayas) or athiest. from a Christian standpoint, none of it is credible. I doubt the Earth will be ended by supervolcanoes or tsunamis or comets and the like. besides, God knows all the good movies are coming in 2012, He's merciful enough to let us see them, right?

Christianity depicts morality as pleasing to God, not a way into heaven. some people are bad but repent their evil and end up in Heaven (Rahab being a good example) and some people are good but don't go to Heaven due to lack of faith. the Millenium is a very mysterious part of the Bible, all I know is that Satan's influence will be bound and kept from humanity, God and Heaven will be closer than ever as well, humanity finds its own way into evil without Satan, and then there's Armageddon and you probably know about that.

If a comet is headed for earth and God said that the earth was going to be destroyed by fire it is very likely that it might happen that way. I have also thought about the sun destroying the earth. If stars expand, become supernovas, then blow up, I think that it is a possibility that the sun would become too big and incinerate our precious earth. I mean think about it, if God put our earth in just the right spot, so that if we were any closer to the sun we'd be incinerated, but if we were any further we would freeze. If that is true, (which it is) than the process might just happen. Or God specially designed the sun so that wouldn't happen and the 2012 thing will happen.
Somebody please respond and tell me what you think.

a comet WOULD kill us all by fire, as it would inflame the atmosphere as it entered it and then the shockwave from the landing would then kill us!

Listen, okay, unlike most bystanders in the world commenting on this topic, I am an expert on the Mayans. Many people point out the vaugely spooky connection with the so-called "Maya Doomsday Prophecy" and the fact the Mayans died out mysteriously in the 900s. The connection is not sinister, but explains 2012 away: The Mayan calender ends on December 21, 2012 (but translations vary-some belive in 2011) BECAUSE THE MAYANS DIED OUT AND DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO MAKE IT ANY LONGER. If the Mayans survived into the 11th or 12th century, they would have made it longer. It would be like archeologists finding a 2008 calender and assuming the world would end on December 31st, 2008. So there.

Well why then, does one of the nazca lines which were made 3000 years ago by the mayans depict a spaceman from earth. i mean the only way they could've found that out would be through pre-cognition!

I am truely stunned. Read a book. The Mayans lived in the Yucatan about 2642.40 miles from Peru. The NAZCA Lines were carved by the NAZCA. People see whatever they want to see. It's not uncommon for a human with a halo around its head with a robe. Modern people see whatever they want to see. Besides, an astronaut dosn't mean the "End of Days".

no but it means pre cognition could have been a gift in those days to some people around or someone came and told them! people like nostradamus who lived later for example!

The Nazca Lines mean nothing. (Not to 2012 anyway) Why wouldn't we have pre-cognition today?

Here's my view: to accept any facet of a religion, you have to accept all of them. If you belive the world will end because the Mayans said so, the Mayans also said that you could stop it by bloodletting out of... well, you know what I'm talking about. Really?

The Apocolypse is not going to occur in 2012. It won't occur for billions of years. Why? Science says so. What could wipe out the ENTIRE human race? An asteroid strike? The entire human race would not die out. Unlike the dinosuars, we are intelligent. Global warming? No, as our atmosphere grows hotter, we evolve. So, although it seems hot to us, 3 generations from now, our genes will have changed to fit the climate.
There are many other reasons why it will not happen. The only things that could destroy mankind entirely are:
1. The Sun implodes and creates a gargantuan sized Black Hole, which swallows up everything.
2. A nuclear war begins, and the fallout and radiation sickness causes widespread disease, wiping out the entire human race.

Why does the Mayan calander end? maybe because they didn't have time to make another one due to the spaniards conquering. Scientics are forever babbling amidst themselves, never agreeeing on one thing. This date will pass like any other. God said that only he would know the exact date, so how can we say that we suddenly know when the end is?

First, Revelation says nothing about the date the world will end. Second, only God knows. Not even Jesus, His only son, knows. Just God the Father knows. So, I doubt John or Nostradomus would know. Third, we should focus more on furthering God's kingdom then on whether or not the world is going to end soon. Everyone believes the world will end soon. The apostles believed they were in the end days, and every Christian since then has believed we live in the end days. I believe it. We should just live prepared for our Lord to come any minute of any day.

the laws of physics and all of the other stars which have past their lifetime
look in 50 billion years, the suns forces will be inequal and it will start to burn rapidly causing it to expand-and that is a supernova

in 50 billion years, we will be long gone. we might be extinct or we might have left the planet for a new galaxy to call home.

He will save the world by ending it! And we don't have free will. If that were true, we wouldn't need the Bible or God because we would be able to make our own Bibles because we would be gods! Everything else you said was true. But the last sentence doesn't make sense. There is nothing else to belive other than in God alone.

The bible was made by humans. Religion is a believe not a truth.

If the meteor hits us, a zombie apocalypse is possible, because it could carry an infectuous disease that kills you and keeps you alive at the same time, putting you in a zombie-like trance. Or, it could contain parasites that eat humans and take over people, turning them cannibalistic to keep the parasites alive. Besides, we have computer operated missiles that could lock on to the meteor and blow it up before it hits earth, and only small chunks would end up hitting us. But if Nostridamus(is that how you spell it?)predicted it, then it will most likely happen.

Ok, don't have time to see if anyone's said this already, but the apocalypse isn't until after the tribulation. A 7 year tribulation. Where the judgement seals are released and stuff. Or am I confusing apocalypse and Armageddon... yep, never mind. Armageddon is the last final battle. Not sure exactly what apocalypse specifically refers to. So I guess armageddon out of here. Yeah, it's going to happen, but I haven't heard a specific date from my Mom, she's told me that over in Jerusalem there making a new temple, and when they finish it, two men (I can't remember their names) from old Bible times who God took up into heaven instead of letting them die will come and kneel before it. I think it was 30 days after this happens the people will kill them and Satin will come down and erect his statue on top. Before that happens you need to be near Jerusalem. And after a while, god will start the judgement. My Mom learned this from very smart and religious people, like Michael Rood and others.

And unless numbers have changed, 2012 is 3 years away, not 7. Also, I don't care a dang about what mayans or Nostra-whats-his-face says, they are not god.

Unfortunatly one won't be able to make that choice. Once the rapture begins, it's sealed. Otherwise it'd be a dead giveaway and people would turn around just to avoid an eternity in helI.
That's something to chew on, I'd say.
If all this Godly stuff turns out to be wrong, the Christians will go with everyone else, just with a more fuffiling life. If we're right, wouldn't it just be a good idea to join in on it anyway? One has nothing to lose, they'll just die anyway. Might as well play it safe.

(On a side note, a quote could relate here by Lee Strobel:
What are you trading your life for? Some people trade it for a drawer full of shopping recipts. Some, for a shelf of trophies or notches on their bedposts. Wouldn't you rather trade your time here for a few hundred other lives changed through Christian deeds?)

proble with tha' logic

bein a christian does not fulfill other lives...only your actions does

But since Nostradamus was very religious, and predicted other things that turned out to be true, I suppose it could happen, but the Maya didn't predict the end of the world, that's just where their calender ends. Actually, the conquistadors were long after the calender was made. Either way, it doesn't make sense that the Mayans would be able to know when the world ends if they believe in different gods. As I said before, it does not say the world ends, that's just the end of the Mayan calender. Maybe at that point they couldn't even calculate that much stuff so far into the future.

Yeah, it seems like if humans have been around since Adam and Eve, and it was.... I think 8,000 years since their distant descendants, (correct me if I'm wrong) before Jesus, then it doesn't make sense that so many thousands of years would go by before His first visit and only about 2,000 before His second.

I don't believe the world will come to an end in 2012. No one but God Himself knows when Jesus is coming back to Earth, and it will be at a time when we're least expecting it. Outside of the Biblical predictions, every other time in history when people have predicted the ending date of the world they have been completely, utterly wrong. Why would this false prediction be any different?

while I think the beginning of the end could start at any moment, but the actual end of all things is probably not right around the corner. of course, I'm not gonna say anything for sure because nobody really knows what will happen and we should always live each day as if it's our last. the Mayans didn't predict the end of the world, they just stopped making calendars at a certain point, that indicates nothing. look, if you're a Christian, you should know the end is totally unpredictable, so trying to find out is a waste of time. and even if the end is coming, who cares? it shouldn't change the way we live our daily lives.

If we are Christians, should'nt we put our trust in Christ. Why are we putting it in sinful men and peagen religion such as the mayans and Nostradomas. Its hoax. its false teachings. If your saved, do not worry, your in Christ's hands, he will keep you safe from all evil. You goal is to glorfy God, and try your best to be perfect, yes we will sin but we must strive to be more like Christ.

In Matthew 24:3, Jesus was asked about the sign of His coming and the end of this age. He gave prophecies of many events to happen before His return. He said there would be religious deception, wars and rumors of wars, famines, disease epidemics and earthquakes, all leading to a time of Great Tribulation when mankind would be on the verge of destroying all life on the earth if the time wasn't cut short (verses 21 and 22). Then Jesus prophesied there would be heavenly signs, and He would return with power and great glory (verses 29-30).

(VERY IMPORTANT)
The Bible does not tell us the date Jesus Christ will return to save humanity from destroying ourselves. But it does promise that Christ will return and set up a government that will bring peace and prosperity to this earth. In the meantime God doesn't ask us to explore the intricacies of ancient Mayan calendars. He warns of rampant deception and tells us not to be fooled by those who claim secret knowledge of His return (Matthew 24:4, 23-26).
What are we to do? The purpose of the biblical prophecies and warning signs is to remind us of our need to always be growing closer to God and to be spiritually ready. We need to be preparing spiritually for Christ's return and the end of this world now, in 2012 and every year.
"Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect" (Matthew 24:44).

I hope my opinion helped you fellow Christians if not unbelivers.

Happy Resurrection day!

Thanks for Summing it up for everyone Fero :D

Well, the Apocalypse is the same thing as the Tribulation, which aside from the 144,000, there won't be any Christians on the earth because they were all taken up in the rapture. And the Bible says that the rapture will happen "In an hour when ye think not." and since so many people think that 2012 is when an apoc is coming, I really don't think it will, because the Bible says it will happen when we don't expect it.

Maybe its because of the Spanish. I mean the Myans were "calender Crazy" and maybe they were still making their calender when the spanish came. Maybe...
I dont think it does end in 2012, there have been things like this in the past of the earth going to end, but it never did.

I will instantly prove you all wrong!! The bible says no one can know when the end of the world will be, so if even one person thinks the end of the world is 2010, then it wont be. I think its all just a bunch of hype. Sure, something bad may happen, but the world isnt going to end. IF you dont agree with me, then you dont believe the bible, if you have evidence against it, show it to me. Until then, and probably after, i will not believe the world will end in 2012

does that even make sense to you? think about that for a second. it's a calendar. in what way does it make sense that their calendar would end with a prophecy? it's supposed to tell time, not be a crystal ball.

Your right, wrong choice of words, but same meaning. At they end of the calender its a big thing about the world ending, it doesnt just end, it says that that date will be the end or the world and blahblahblah

Check this website out http://www.abhota.info/ it lists almost all of the End of the World predictions since 2800 BC all of which have yet to come true. Does this make some of you feel a little better?

Also, a lot of sites talking about 2012 were set up by Sony in order to hype their movie.

Lastly, the Mayan Calendar doesn't predict doomsday it predicts a new beginning. Which could mean anything.

Hey! News flash y'all! About all those prophesies on that website? THEY WERE ALL WRONG!! Does it matter when the world ends? All christians be taken up in the rapture before the end. IT DON"T MATTER! We need to be good witnesses to the world and not say "THE WORLD IS GOING TO END AND THERE'S NOT ONE HOPE! boo-hoo!" The world has no hope, but we have hope in Jesus Christ. Am I right? Or shall we weep and knash our teeth about the end of the world WHICH WE WILL NOT BE AROUND FOR?

G'day brothers in christ!

I reckon the end times are getting very close. I dunno if you guys know about the 3 different theories of tribulation (that is pre-triulation, mid-tribulation, and post-tribulation) but I believe in either mid or post tribulation rapture, meaning we have to survive by ourselves if we do not take "the mark".

And I have a sneaking suspicion, though it probably isn't true, that December 21 2012 is the beginning of the end. The rise of the antichrist is imminent.

Gather some ammunition boys! we're on our own from there! lol

Regarding the antichrist concept:

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."

"Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son."

"And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."

"For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist."

Apparently "The Beast" from Revelation has become mixed up with the concept of the antichrist, the three sixes, etcetera. So: antichrist = someone who rejects christ, and is therefore ANTI-christ. The Beast = nobody knows, Revelation was made hard to understand on purpose.

As for 2012, that's a load of twaddle and horse apples.
You know what people thought would happen in 666 AD? END OF THE WORLD OH NO GAME OVER MAN GAME OVER!
It wasn't.
793: wasn't anywhere near as exciting as predicted.
970: same here.
1260: no end of the world.
1290: not there either.
1300s: nope, even with a whole century to play with.
1476: boring.
1520: as usual.
1666: nope.
1914: the war to end all wars, but nothing else.
1915: as above.
1918: oh look, the last war is over.
1920: gangstas with their baggy pants and hip-hop music.
1925: as above.
1941: wouldn't you know, now there's another big war.
1975: stuff, but no endgame.
1988: uh-uh.
1997: no.
1998: nein.
2000: let me think... um... nyet.
2011: not that I recall.
2012: 2+2=?

Hey Areetsa C, I dont want to get in a big religion argument, because I think we both know that we will never come to agree with each other exactly concerning religion.

However I must say that I disagree. Personally I think that you are taking the quoted phrases too literally. In revelation there is direct reference to "the antichrist", this antichrrist being the beast in the satanic head of three: that being the false prophet, the beast (or the antichrist, same thing) and satan himself.

There is but one antichrist. The beast = the antichrist = 666.

And as for the 2012 being a load of...whatever it was you said, you may well be correct, but dont count on it. According to scripture, we followers of Christ are to keep watch and "see it coming" if you know what I mean. So as unlikely as it may seem, the 2012 theory has a lot of evidence pointing toward it.

Some of this evidence being:
- The morals of humanity being lost, and the acceptance of sick deeds is all around us. e.g: homosexuality.

- The ongoing conflict between Palestinian nations and the chosen nation: of course, Israel. Although they have been fighting each other since...like forever. Hardly rock solid.

- Mayan Calendar. It stops at 2012.

- And heaps more that I am too lazy and tired to be bothered thinking of.

Try and get your hands on a book titled "the bible code". It has more evidence pointing toward 2012.

But then I do not strongly believe in the 2012 theory, just a suspicion. Could give you a whole explanation of a theory that makes sense in every way, but it would be such a large file it would lead to the demise of the entire world wide web.

Just dont be too confident in yourself bro.

Mayan calendar = twaddle.
Unless you're going to say you believe in their gods as well, because you can't really pick and choose like that.

"Bible Code": I prefer to stick with the normal bible, ta. People deliberately interpreting things to support their claims is bad enough without them inventing secret codes.

"Taking it too literally": well, I'm of the belief that some parts are literal, some are metaphorical, some are allegories, and nobody can agree which are which. I'm pretty sure those passages refer to antichristism being anti-christ. OF COURSE The Beast would be an antichrist; goes with the territory.

Morals: err, yeah, people have been like this forever. It's just that now they can get away with talking about it. The Victorians were just as bad, just in a different way.

Keeping a watch: well, it also says that no man, angel, or even Christ himself will know when the end times will start, only God.

Every prediction of doomsday so far has been complete bunkum. It is highly likely that this one will be, too; it's just that the whole 2012 business has captured the popular imagination in a similar way to the Year 2000 Bug. Remember that? No, you wouldn't. Neither do I, but I have read about it. More or less, poeple thought everything electronic or associated with computers would die on the first of January. It didn't. Apart from a couple of clocks and slot machines, that is.

Personally, I believe it is something to watch out for, since it has been predicted by Nostradamus, The Maya, and (correct me if i'm wrong) the book of revelations. Whats your opinion?

I am neither denying or believing that 2012 is the end of the world. I say that God decides when he wants the world to end, and if God wants the world to end December 21, 2012, then so be it. It's his decision. Period. Again, I am neither denying or believing that 2012 is the end.

Joke I heard from my brother

Mayan 1: Hey, look at this calendar I carved (on stone)!
Mayan 2: Cool, but why does it end on Nov. 21, 2012?
Mayan 1: Because I ran out of room. Wouldn't it be funny if someone thought that it meant it was the end of the world?
Mayan 2: Yeah, but no-one is stupid enough to do that.

But to answer your question: because a lot of "Christians" these days put far too much stock in neopaganist beliefs. The only thing that links "Healing crystals", the "Earth Mother", horoscopes, and, oh yes, the world ending in 2012 together is the way they have absolutely no relation to Christianity. Unfortunately, crackpots tend to be very loud, and the squeaky wheel gets the grease (and media attention). Popcultural osmosis does the rest.
