Alright, so thanks to the powers of Sean Kenney, we have been lifted out of our group problem of non-updating! It is great news, and I would like to see everyone to get more active now. Please, down below, list topics that you know would be very active in; something you feel passionate about, or something you know a lot about. Leave them down below, and we will make some of the conversations, based on how many people request it, etc.
Also, I would like to to congratulate Bob the Inconceivably Invincible! He has made the second Member of the Month! To get a member of the month, you must be active, and debate kindly with.
Lets bring this group back guys. We have 56 members. Lets try and be as active as possible!

I'd like to see a new topic based on fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, a new way of getting the underground gases in rocks. There are many of these potential wells around, but there are downsides. Contamination of ground water, depletion of fresh water, risks to air quality, the migration of gases and hydraulic fracturing chemicals to the surface, surface contamination from spills and flow-back, and health effects are some problems that can occur as a result of fracking.

As soon as I get to a computer (I am using an iPad) I will have one made for mining, with special emphasis on fracking.

Just asking guys, do we have any topic requests? I'm looking for a few new to add, to kinda change up the tone that currently is more, US gov't related than international.

I want to ask before I create, would you all be interested in a paranormal debate, or would that be too religious?

I'd suggest something but it would seem that it may be too much of a touchy issue to discuss on a site like MOCPages.

You could start one on how Comrade Barack made a lot of high and mighty promises but didn't deliver on any.

Apparently one of the big ones was "not letting Detroit go bankrupt" and then last week or so it turns out he lied.

Sort of like when he twiddled his thumbs while an embassy got massacred.

Interesting to see people's views, but I myself don't stand too strongly either way.

As a general rule, anyone with enough in the way of faith to class it as faith at all is against it.

The whole 'premeditated murder' thing is kind of frowned upon by some types.

It's another of those arguments that goes around and around and never finds anything approaching common ground, because both sides adhere to inherently hostile philosophies.

Well. If I had the ability to feel insulted, I may take offense to that. Jumping to conclusions a bit much, I'd say. Especially due to the fact that I believe I've stated my case on one topic here only, and remained fairly neutral. I understand what you mean, though.

A lot of people won't or can't put effort toward thinking about ideas like gun control, abortion or drones vs covilians; and they derail the debate into something trivial like which bullet does the most damage, how much a drone costs, or some prime-time news distraction like that. It doesn't bring the issue any closer to being resolved and ends up as people talking past each other rather than to each other.

There is a powerful political ideology present on MOCpages, which makes all debates that ideology versus others. I do not remember many (or with my underpowered memory core, any) debate where I would support the same argument as any one person I debate against on other topics. Less-importaint debates excluded (things that are meant more "for fun").

We seem to take a lot of things for granted in our debates. Perhaps we should have a debate or two about our assumptions and see if they hold up under scrutiny. These will probably require some research and some hard numbers.

1. More people were killed by religion than any other cause. true or not?

2. Western patriarchal cultures oppress women.

and another topic that is sure to get a lot of action due to it being back to school time:

Teachers: developing young minds, or glorified babysitters? Are teachers underpaid sages who selflessly impart knowledge to children, or are they minimal scholars with a good propaganda campaign? Do the various bumper stickers and coffee cups glorifying teachers and the teaching profession speak the truth, or is it just hype?

That's a totally different topic.

Also, gender is inherent, sex is external. People can change their sex through surgery, not their gender.

I agree on both parts. The first is definitely too sensitive.

If you change tattoo to visible body modifications (piercings, excluding earrings which have been socially acceptable in our society for a while) we could definitely have a debate, even if it's a quick one.

Here's one for you: Pearl Harbour to VE day:
sixteen million men, billions of tanks, planes, guns, ships, bombs, shells, uncountable crates of ammunition and enough explosive to take Hawaii and launch it into the stratosphere.

Obama's had longer to get his health'care' system running, and it STILL doesn't work.

Of course, once it DOES work it'll bankrupt pretty much everyone over there, but that's neither here nor there.

i hear ya. so i never knew the full side of the Kennedy story until this month when the showed all the documentary of him were shown. the channel during dinner was always (ng,h,dis, cnn,or other channels)

and with all due respect, it was like having the channel stuck on the weather channel for the weekend of one hurricane in 2005.

the end was kinda bizarre. of course the president died, at that time you couldn't survive a shot to the head and chest. but 2 days later Oswald is being taken to the county jail, but the jack ruby shoots HIM! He dies. Then ruby goes to jail and DIES 3 years later from natural causes. So everybody dies.

P.S. if you don't like docs. but want to see this, i highly Recommend "Killing Kennedy".

its like a drama movie, but its a documentary without the explaning. actors, play out the scenes and its a movie. its very good.

So i understand what happens with enough is enough, but what happens in Africa(i know its really poor) i dont know what happens there?

"Hail to the new boss, just like the old boss!"

The gist of it is, AFAIK, that the whole "government" structure over there is really just a thin coat of paint to legitimize the biggest tribe's stomping all over the smaller ones.

The hippie brigade has a whole list of reasons why things are so messy over there that all amount to "it's the white people's fault!" but basically, Africa's always been unpleasant.

My theory is that when the euros came in, we accidentally uplifted them.

That, in short, we'd had centuries to get used to new tech; gunpowder, steam, electricity, petrol engines, high explosives, aeroplanes, the Maxim Gun...

Anyway, it all cost us hundreds of thousands of lives, but it was spread out. Lots of people died, but by the time the new hotness came along, the old one was a part of society.

When the colonists pulled out, though, they pretty much took all that kit, dropped it on the aboriginals and said "have fun".

So the same old tribal wars are going on, but a lot more damage is being done.

That's my theory, anyway.

Alternate dimensions are main plot devices in sci-fi genre, but there is a large possibility of other dimensions actually existing. After all, if the whole universe were to be completely in the 3rd dimension, there would be large blank voids in space.

Controversy also = going around and around in circles, because one side adamantly refuses to acknowledge the existence of the other side's arguments, choosing instead to cherry-pick single phrases or terms to panic about.

I'm saying that when a country puts Reverse-Midas in charge, it's not really a surprise when its neighbor does better than it.

Canada was unaffected by the world wide financial crisis caused by the US. Canada has common sense banking laws. After taxes, Canadians have more disposable income.

Canada has universal health coverage. Even with the ACA, the US still does not have universal coverage. Our health system is still based on how much one can afford to pay for it. Right now the poor get it free, the rich are unaffected, and the middle class has high premiums and deductibles which pay for the poor.

What I am looking for is how employers treat their employees in Canada. You can't have a strong middle class with low wages, part time, and temp work. People with skills are being paid less than they were 10 years ago.
