Commanders. Welcome to General Conversation Thread 13.

I start this thread with a reiteration of two important facts announced in the Commanders Bulletin, that effect all members of DA. I ask each of you for your attention, your candor, and a minimum of distracting humor in responding to these announcements. They are both important, and while I value humor, it often clouds or delays true understanding. They are two separate announcements and all current commanders have a vested interest in them.

Announcement 1: “Last Day” has been changed from 31 OCT to 30 SEP. I am moving this day up a month because my professional obligations continue to increase, and because both Mr. Goldman and I need to shift our efforts to preparation for Brick Con in Seattle. I realize this may cause commanders some consternation… but at the risk of sounding cavalier… it is a fact, and it is done.

Announcement 2: Commanders will decide, via referendum, to continue or discontinue the use of Treaty Organizations in DA. This is a complete reversal of my earlier position on the matter. I will frame the question, and you the commanders will decide. I did not want to change the rules of the game once it was in motion… but in the interest of reducing the workload associated with running DA, and in the interest of creating an environment where weak nations die sooner, and strong nations decide the fate of the world faster, I reopen the question. I will pose the question directly those members, and only to those members of the DA team who have a vested opinion: Namely the commanders who are currently listed on the ORBAT. Before this next Attack Window (AW 11) I will post a thread entitled “Commanders Referendum.” This thread will start with a post where I will pose the specific question and explain the rather simple voting procedures. The referendum thread will be unlocked along with the Attacks thread during AW11, it will remain open during the entirety of AW11, and it will be locked at the close of AW11. Votes that are posted by anyone other than commanders who were on the ORBAT at the beginning of AW11 will be deleted. Any comment that is not a vote will be deleted. Neither Mr. Goldman nor I will vote on this issue, and we will support (without debate) the commander’s decision on this matter.

To recap: The world ends on 30 SEP 2013… and a vote by commanders will decide if the Treaty Organizations will be used in DA after AW11. That is a lot to take in and I am sure you will all have questions. I am fully aware that these are both disruptive changes, but in the interest of clarity, I point out that neither of them are open to debate (that is to say, both will occur… but I am absolutely willing to discuss the “why”, and the “what” about each of them). I know you will have questions, and I acknowledge in advance the legitimacy of your interest.

I genuinely regret these changes, but I figure, it’s better to make a forced landing than to fly until the red light over the fuel gage begins flashing.

DAS standing by.
Send questions, time now.

My view on treaties. Have Cooperative Non-Aggressive Treaties. These would be between 2+ players that would essentially be an agreement not to attack each other and to help each other in attacking. No defensive point bonuses, simply an alliance.

General X.

That is all fine and good... but the only question you will be voting on is weather or not to continue using them in DA as we currently do... or to do away with them all together.

"To T.O. or not to T.O.... THAT is the question!"

Mr. Shields.

Sorry to give your MOCs the boot, but the MOC pool in this particular group is exclusively for use by "Commanders." These are group members who have posted certain MOCs and conducted certain specified administrative actions. While we are no longer accepting new commanders, we certainly welcome you to the group and hope you enjoy the show!

Mr. Rutherford,

I fail to see how General Lucas was able to take Land in Australia. I will present my Objections (OBJs).

OBJ 1. He has 4 Coastal Zones.

OBJ 2. Divided by 3 that means he can attack across 1 Sea Zone.

OBJ 3. General Lucas Attacked P13 and P15.

OBJ 4. He is only allowed to attack across 1 SEA ZONE.

OBJ 5. He attacked across up to 4 sea zones away.

OBJ 6. This is in violation of the fact the he can attack up to only 1 SEA ZONE AWAY!!!

Therefore I would suggest the you revert the the battle results.

I asked the same thing. Actual results: Lucas has coastal territories A13,21,25,26, EA27 and P19. That is 6, which means he can attack across two sea zones. He has several coastal territories two sea zones from Australia, meaning his attack is valid (unfortunately).

Good luck with that. As you well know, the attack on you was a tactical maneuvre that you agreed to before it was carried out. As to the private group, it's only fair to note that STUDS was operating on a very similar basis until this week, with separate private groups between Luke and different memebers.

'Bout time you joined. Great to have you back, and thanks for the intel.

So, Topsy and Shifu, you really want to take me on in North America? No doubt you'll prevent me from winning, but with four territories right now and the reduced deadline I have slim chances anyway. However, if you want to guarantee it, you'll kill your own chances as well. With my offensive power, I could just keep taking back land. So, queen for queen, or go for mate?

Ok, AW11 is in the books and what a wild one it was. One player quits, another is eliminated and so many DQ's.

The map is updated.

*Gen. Creatori, I added in your second attack, sorry about that.

** Gen. Lucas, I robbed you of several points because I noticed too late your correction about having 10 territories not 9. Fortunately, the mistake did not effect any of your 3 battles.

I will update the Battle Scores thread next, and double check everyone's territory count.

What a turn!

Wow. That was action packed, and this week will be even more of a bloodbath... thanks again for the hard work Keith!

I almost can't believe I'm writing this next bit. I think my attack on EA35 failed. I crossed 2 sea territories so that should be -4 to my offensive power. Even with the extra territory points (6/3 = 2), I think that drops my attack to 34.

What kind of general tries to disqualify his own attack? One who's hoping to catch others out with the same rule, of course!

General McLegofreak.

Don't be such a putz.

Look, before I even address your objections, allow me to observe that these attacks are a week old... and that errors are to be pointed out and corrected during the intervening days between attack windows.

You on the other hand think the time to address your objections... is in the last hours before the next AW?

Ergo my guidance that you not be such a putz. While you are at it, re-read the rules

AND...

Learn to read the map.

As to your specific objections:

OBJ 1. He has 4 Coastal Zones.
Wrong.

OBJ 2. Divided by 3 that means he can attack across 1 Sea Zone.
Wrong.

OBJ 3. General Lucas Attacked P13 and P15.
Correct (I think) but more a statement of fact than an actual objection.

OBJ 4. He is only allowed to attack across 1 SEA ZONE.
Wrong.

OBJ 5. He attacked across up to 4 sea zones away.
Wrong.

OBJ 6. This is in violation of the fact the he can attack up to only 1 SEA ZONE AWAY!!!
Wrong.

Lets review.

All of your numbered objections, with the exception of #3 are wrong.

Your suggestion is rejected.

Hope that helps.
Read the Attack Results for this recently past AW... and offer us your insights BEFORE the next AW is about to begin.

Hope that helps.

Yea great... but what do think the REAL DEAL will be?

For my part, I am curious to see what happens in North America. There is some real potential for "Real World Diplomacy" (that which occurs in the form of frank and meaningful negotiation between involved combatants). Also, there are some active commanders in that theater who walk and talk like food products. Powerhouse General Ravenchist is on the ropes... not loved... and has been stratigically delinquent in his treatment of his own ORBAT. BUT... he has recently fielded some KEY systems designed to address his most pressing weaknesses. So... it's a dynamic theater. (But what do you predict will occur there specifically?)

Eurasia remains a cordial theater. Up until now, the members of the Primal Encounter Group have been consistently well behaved (with the exception of occasionally eating their young). Their animosity has been pretty consistently aimed at distant powers in far off lands. They are in positions to continue the fight in those far off lands as well.

But now... what’s to stop the letting of local blood, save the frail walls of habit and tradition? There is an order to be established in Europa... make no mistake. The current peace is only the result of the decision to establish that order “later”. The question is: When? Tonight? Next week?

Even the great Bacon Budda must paus and assess the ramifications of recent rules changes. Being the first to trash the old order MIGHT purchase some advantage... but the old order DOES benefit those who adhear to its traditions.

It is THESE dynamics that currently capture my imagination.

So, couch your message in poetry, propaganda, or... some other word that starts with P (because we all like alliteration...) but what do you EXPECT to see tonight?

And no... "Paaain" doesn't count as a prediction!

Give!

(This is where much of the entertainment value of this group resides for Keth and I. We can’t/won’t listen in on private “TO” chatter… and it kills us! We can only read the tea leaves and speculate. Arg! The agony and the ecstasy!)
