Thank you, I am honored to be the first. Now down to business. I have a quick question about cross ocean attacks. I know that the number of sea zones that can be crossed is equal to the number of territories that you control. I was wondering if the territory you attack you also have to take into account? So for example if I was to attack A 15 from SA 11 would I have to have 3 or 4 territories? PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, STRENGTH THROUGH WAR. ~ General McLegofreak

Okay, here's a doozy. Say you possess 3 coastal territories, and attack a coastal island on your fourth turn. However, catastrophe strikes and three generals attack your mainland territories, capturing all three. Now you're stuck on the coastal island which you just attacked. Now, can you attack the mainland from your island as it's your only territory, or are you stuck since it's not your starting territory?

Okay, here's a doozy.

General Ravenchist.

Short answer: Your stuck.

Long answer: Change the name of your country to "Nationalist China" and... your stuck.

Really though, what are the odds of it going down like that?

I know that the number of sea zones that can be crossed is equal to the number of territories that you control.

the territory you attack you also have to take into account?

General McLegofreak.

In order:

Q1. I know that the number of sea zones that can be crossed is equal to the number of territories that you control.

A1. Wrong. The number of Sea Zones that can be crossed is equal to the number of COASTAL territories you control DEVIDED BY THREE. So right now, lets take your country as an example. You can't sail any place because you only control two coastal territories. You would need to have three coastal territories in order to cross ONE sea zone.

Q2. the territory you attack you also have to take into account?

A2. You have to have THREE COASTAL territories AT THE BEGINNING of the AW in order to count. SO for example, if you only had TWO coastal territories, and you WANTED to attack another, it would have to be by land... because you cant' use boats yet.

I hope that information helps.

Okaay, here's one I don't think has come up yet. Suppose an opponent attacks my coastal territory from across the sea, but has no offensive sea power, just a transport ship. Does my defensive sea power still apply?

Similarly, what if 2 opponents attack 2 of my territories, one by land only and one by sea. Does my defensive sea power get divided along with the rest of my defense, or is it all applied to the territory attacked by sea, and the rest of my defense divided?

One more scenario. Suppose I have a great tank and a not-so-great bomber. I go up against an opponent with weak land defense but unbeatable air defense. Can I get the drop on him by pulling my bomber off my ORBAT, so only his land defense applies?

Hope I'm not overthinking this, just trying to plan ahead!

What is the point of being smarter than everybody if you can not use that?

General Otiosus.

The time the battle outcome is calculated is ANY time between the opening of the attack window, and the posting of the results (Hopefully not later than the following MONDAY, but so far well before that). The variables are the amount of time the DAS has to to the computations, MOCpages outages, Complexity of attacks, number of attacks, and at least several others.

The operational "take away" from this information is this: Have solid numbers, and know them, at least a day before the attack. If the outcome of a battle is close, be ready for the results of DAS to differ from your own.

Surges in popularity (which result in the addition of yellow heads), punitive removal of positive reviews (and the subsequent removal of yellow heads) are variables that can shift after an attack is declared, and which the DAS cannot regulate.

But we DO manually record who is in what TO before the attack window opens, and THAT manually recorded list is what we use for TO factors in the computations.

As for "the point of being smarter than everybody", I would advise that you turn your intellect to the questions of how to remain "more committed than everybody else".

I have obviously lost my mind in the sea defense arena. Go for it. Cry havoc and let slip the laser sharks of war...I'm going to be ill.

Wolf pens. No. Why? Animals are a realistic border security measure. The Soviets used them extensively in securing their famously tight borders right?

Well, because the dogs themselves are mobile assets. Like trucks, soldiers, and aircraft. The dogs are NOT fixed fortified positions. Yes, the dog kennel MIGHT be called a fixed position, but a fortified dog kennel?

No dice man. But I like the thought. Dogs on the border are a rockin cool idea.

'Fraid not. The standard rule is that you have to control 3 coastal/island territories before you can attack across water. There is an exception if you start on an island: you ARE allowed to attack across water, but only to the mainland, NOT another island, and within the same sea zone.
So from P18 you could attack P15, but it's heavily defended already.
From P8 you can attack only EA34 or EA35. From P5,6,7 you couldn't attack anywhere.

Hope that helps you decide!

You can upload your Infantry Squad as soon as you like. To get the territory, you have to post a comment in the 'Attacks' thread stating where you will be starting. The DA staff will unlock the 'Attacks' thread at 12:01 am on Saturday (MOCpages time), unless the server is still down, in which case it will be pushed back until Sunday, etc. From whenever it opens you'll have a 24 hr window to post your attack.
One more thing: if someone else goes for the same territory as you, the first one to post their attack gets it. So when you want to post your attack, check the posts above yours that no-one has already taken the one you want, and have a plan B. Good luck!

Mr. Sanister.

General Lucas has given you excellent advice. You are entering pretty late (not to late, but life will be difficult for you).

Two facts to remember:
1. Read the rules or get smashed by a player who did.

2. Starting late, you will NEED to build GOOD offensive MOCs (TANK, BOMBER, LARGE SEA CRAFT).

If your not ready to do these two things (read rules and build hard) then I am not optimistic about your chances of survival in this cruel little world.

But welcome anyway! It's the end of the world, and we have save you a spot!

I laughed out loud at the video of your bomber. You were sort of... unsure... of what to do with your hands? Then the swooshing was classic, and the sound track just rammed it home!

I better Let General Barrett know that a video of his tank is OK though.

Because you had video of your AA tree up for a long time, and I never said "No Dice."

I told Barrett "No Dice" to video for his TANK, and now I am forced to concede that this is not completely fare.

The lesson for me is that all MOCs (and postings of those MOCs) must be viewed QUIKCLY and rules must be enforced just as quickly.

But anyways... The bomber vid was epic. And the mystery image at the end... with the dragon and the chopper? Priceless.

General Lucas.

Do you want to play in DA2.0? I only ask because you have DAS written all over you! You are putting out good stuff!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I appreciate the amount of time you DAS put into keeping things running, and just thought I could save you answering the same questions again. As for DA2.0, that's a long way away yet, but I'm sure I'd enjoy either playing or DAS'ing, if needed!

Thatís good to know. Yes, DA2.0 is WAYYYY way way down the line. I only do one MOCpages effort per year. This is my third. The next one won't be until later in 2014. But both your ability and possible interest in DASing are noted. When we start designing the effort in earnest, I will seek you out.

Is that only the attack window or is EVERYTHING postponed by a day? Like all notes and requirments and attacks and calculations and... EVERYTHING in the fullest meaning (even lunch)?

Lunch waits for no man!

As for the rest... ummm... I think the answer is yes.

I mean, we will manually check and record membership in the TOs right before opening the AW, if that is what you mean...

Attack?

Attack?

Well, that was not exactly my question, but the general answer was sufficient. Thank you.

Concerning the boats: It says build the water out of featureless blue brick, but I only have blue plates. Do those count?

Sure do. But, only plates. No wakes or features of any sort. The moc is the focus.

Say you have logistical power, a tank, but no offensive air or sea. You attack an adjacent coastal territory. Is your logistics power factored in (as well as the defenders defensive sea, logistics, and FFP sea), or is it assumed that rather than shipping your tank overseas, it'd just roll in overland and thus sea power is irrelevant?

Also, if the answer is that logistics and sea power would be included, could you remove your logistics MOC from ORBAT for the attack and then re-add it when you need it later?
