Our school has the best school tradition ever... One day at school, but completely without normal classes. You can choose to take two special activities during the morning (those range anywhere from silk painting to sports tournaments). So first you have a class, then a 25 minute break and then a second class, then a one and a half hour break with BBQ lunch in the school garden. After that you have to check in with your homeroom teacher, and in that time the winners of a school raffle are announced, and then you can choose in the last one and a half hour or so to go to a basketball tournament, the school's game room, watch a movie, or watch our school's variety show.
EDIT: And during the breaks, you can get snow cones, pretzels, churros, and soda. We call all that Springday, and it usually happens at the end of one or two weeks of testing.

...Best school tradition ever. :P I have no idea why I mentioned it here though... :P

You're seriously going to look at the group Gilbert linked to, then say that plain text would be better. No.

This isn't about personal points- this is about making the whole group the best it can possibly be.

What happened to "all entries due at the end of the month."?

This is what was actually said.
Quoting Challenge Brief
Finally, this challenge will run until the end of April. If you want your homepage design to be considered, please post a link to your group here so we know where to find it. If no design is deemed superior to the existing HP at the end of April, the challenge will be continued indefinitely. Late entries will be reviewed, but they will not be given any points unless they are determined to be superior to whatever the existing homepage is. The homepage may be replaced at any time after the conclusion of this challenge, and the creator of the new one (barring admins making minor modifications) will be awarded five points.

Fear not, all submissions are being reviewed and we are one vote short of deciding the matter. The two submitted in April - your entry and White Hawk's - give their creators five points each, and the best of those will be given winner's points, too. If Team Piglot's entry, which was late, is deemed better than either of those, then the team members will each get five points (winning points without normal points). Finally, FNJ definitely deserves points for his work, which is going to be adopted as the official homepage when complete and certainly consists of more than "minor modifications" to existing designs.

Yeah, it does that with me, but on my iPad, it randomly stops working even though there's a full wifi signal, and so I have to reconnect, and now I have my wifi password memorized.

Building a pretty epic comeback MOC for LOM. Any advice for building an inn?

Make it an interior, first off. Build stonework around the first floor, then make an overhang off of that, supported with wooden pillars. Then, build a white/tan timber-framed second story, with lots of small arched windows. Add a staircase up one side and a fireplace at the end, and build a grey mosaic floor. Finally, build it large enough to take all your pictures without showing any backdrop. Oh, and add shields. Lots of shields.

Actually I'm thinking of doing an A P type story with the exterior build, and then have a separate build for the interior.

Same drill - two floors, with the lower one made of greebly stonework and the second framed with timber. That's a good, generic-but-appealing model to follow.

I need to get back into this group. Seeing it in my activity feed has inspired me to pick it back up again. I'm going to do some building and finally post a smaller version of what I was going to post for the February challenge (talk about procrastination!). I'll work on that as well as finding up any characters that may have been lost and finding where I stashed the story/write-up. With any luck, it will be up before Saturday!

Welcome back! :D I'll be looking forward to it!

I've also become COMPLETELY obsessed with metal, not that's of much interest, but it really inspires me for my builds. I also got Dol Gulder Ambush, awesome set! One of the best "Battle Pack" Oh, yeah! I went to a concert last week! It had Tobymac, Lecrae, and SKILLET!

I thought you were not that much a fan of the color... My main reason for deciding on the Seacow is that the bigger the set, the more satisfying it is to build... and since all my big sets so far are buildings, I thought a ship would be nice. Plus, I also decided that the variety of parts you get in the seacow is better than what you get in the Restaurant, and for me, the classic smiles in the Restaurant minifigs are a major downside... I also couldn't pass up the figs in the seacow. What can I say? I'm still a KFOL, after all. :P I still have to save another month to get it...

I like olive green...but only when used well. Luke Watkins and David Hensel are both great at using it. Hm, large sets...if the Haunted House is available, that might be the best set - it has the best color ever (sand green) and plenty of other good pieces, like masonry bricks.

An outlaw with a ship would work as well or even someone pretending they owned a ship would suffice. Anyway let me know if you're interested. It won't happen for a week or two though, just so you know.

I'm looking into it right now. After a look at the parts list, I am already thinking about whether I should get it, but the minifigs don't really appeal to me, and the ship is a lot more interesting in general. I will have to watch one or two reviews of both sets before I decide, but If I decide on the Monster Mansion, then it would turn into a battle between that and Parisian Restaurant... Ah, the age-old problem of what to do with your money. :P

OK cool. That sounds like fun. Right now my character doesn't know anything about the Black Lotus because he's been living on a secluded, uncharted island, training with a skin-changer.

My next freebuild is going to be my character rescuing some captives off of another, uncharted island in the north then we'll need to get back to Rainos and my raft is most likely not gonna make that trip =P

OK I should be able to make yours as well. I'll also have two people with me, but pretty much any black hair, male and female face, and ragged clothes will work for them.

My original plan was to have them stow away in the cargo of a ship but if you'd rather have them as regular passengers I'm fine with that. Also do you have a picture of your ship so I can try to make it?

I'm planning to make a second build like this one: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/387027

This time a life-sized computer on a desk (color undecided) in front of a (probably white) wall. The screen of the computer will show a picture of a factory (mosaic again, but in full color, not black and white like last time). I don't know about the title of the piece yet, but it will have something to do with remembering where our electronics come from and what happens to them after we get rid of them, sort of like the last build. This one will be bigger, and I probably can't build it until the last three weeks or so of summer break...

There is only Tourney per year and this year's has already happened. Each UC/RC happens every month. Look at the threads for the current May UC. No, they are not the only way to get points. Every type of builds get points.

The current UC is in a thread titled ”May UC”. You may participate in it. The Tourney is over - it only comes once a year. They are not the only ways of getting points and ranks.

All of us started out with creations like yours... It took me years to get as good as I am right now. So don't leave because your creations aren't as good as some of the others. You are already getting better. As for the story problem, I think you are just a bit confused: what you do in LOM is developing the story of your character. It is written down nowhere other than in your MOCs. The admins decide the big storyline, and we all make our own smaller ones within. It is not possible to alter the storyline drastically unless you are an admin. ;) About the Mountains of pieces... That depends. I recommend sorting your pieces, because that way you can do more with the pieces you have. You don't need that many pieces to make something good. If you go smaller, then you can include more details and you won't need mountains of pieces. ;) You don't have to make all your LOM Mocs big, you know.

I agree with the others about pieces; not like I'm the best builder here at all in terms of medieval building, but it is not the amount of pieces that makes a good build. If you don't have that many pieces, you can build microscales, or, just build small, detailed builds. My personal collection , each letter-page-sized draw on top of each other, is still shorter than I am(and I'm not even 5 feet yet, I think; and the bins aren't even half-full). About the complicity of the LOM, I don't really think it is that complicated at all, but it might help you to thoroughly read the home page and your faction's thread. Hopes this helps...

Algebra isn't that bad but it's trigonometry that's really difficult. I don't know that I've ever used Algebra while building LEGO creations though.

I've had to use trigonometry once so that I could find a side measurement in a triangular build once, and then I had to use the Law of Sines and then find their ratios so I could see if it was of the same proportions as a similar triangle I built. Another time I had to find the volume of a cylinder so I knew exactly how many studs I needed to order on BrickLink.

There'a also the 2:5 ratio (5 plates are equal to 2 plates on their side), and the length of the indented portion of a headlight brick is equal to two SNOTed plates. There's a lot more.

I've learned how to make a good brick-built hull with some offsets and SNOT techniques, as well as a few methods to add detail and that I sorta like mosaics. On the other hand, trying to make a rounded stern is tricky.

Oh, and that I need to make more sail techniques in the future.

I learned how to make a perfectly-rounded stern... Trouble is, it's fragile, and the design doesn't leave a lot of room for SNOT. I'm debating whether or not to build the cabin of a Mythronian ship to fit in some of my primary style.

Here's a new texturing technique I came up with. Is it a keeper?

It looks pretty good as it is, but I would try 1x1 round plates in stead of 1x1 round bricks, too, to see which one works better.

Eh... I'd say that it's more appropriate for a stylized build than a realistic one. Maybe it would be more impressive if there wasn't an abrupt change from rounds to right angles around the window - that looks kind of messy to me.

It'a a bit wierd and unrealistic, I don't think you'd see anything like it in real life...

Yeah, I agree with you - I have a lot of 1x1 round tiles in light grey, that would look better. I think the whole construction doesn't look as good as normal techniques, though.

How many pictures did you take? I don't really include that many elaborate stories anymore unless I feel it needs one, so for me it takes about ten minutes.

I would say so, but only for two or three mocs; not many buildings in LOM look like that, and it could get boring after a while.

I've spent an hour or so over the past couple of days photographing (and editing) the first scene for my MOC-off entry.

I take anywhere between an hour and two hours taking my pictures. But then, I take a lot more than I need so I can review them again on the computer and choose between several shots of one angle. :P

It takes me three or so hours to take the pictures and get the moc posted, due to computer issues. That's one reason I'm always posting at the very end of a round.

Same here. I usually take 3-6 shots of each angle.

Lucky me - no editing software. I can take pictures, see immediately whether or not I need to retake them on my phone, upload directly to Flickr or Photobucket and then spend an hour or two on the text before plugging the pictures in. It's so much quicker this way!

Yeah. But editing can up the quality of the photos. For some reason, my camera's pictures of large builds tend to be dark and weird, I can usually fix that to some degree with editing.

On a real camera, though, pictures look way different after the transfer from a postage-stamp sized screen to a full-sized computer monitor ;)

For my UC I am actually darkening the pictures I took to make it seem like night-time*. It is only somewhat successful when the pictures are bad, but if it's a good picture I am editing, it is really convincing.

*This includes decreasing the brightness, contrast, saturation, temperature, exposure and levels (I have no idea what that last one means, but it helps) on a photo. I do that on iPhoto, although I usually use the editor Halhi recommended to me when editing pictures.

Unless it's near a house, I'd say the irregular look is best. I don't know why anyone would prune it otherwise.
