LOM Fun Fact: Magic in the Lands of Mythron typically issues from one of two locations - The Wizard's University of Reedus or the Archdruid's College of Hadran, venerable institutions that hail from around or even before the founding of Mythron.

MOL Fun Fact: Five factions (discounting the Black Lotus) went into this chapter in LOM history... but not as many will come out again.

Here's the things about me that should determine my allegiance.

3) The idea of capitalism interests me

Make a roman group.

But besides the red, Mythron sounds like it would best fit that stuff you listed.

My favorite bit is the "many fauceted scarlet emerald", as well as his unfortunate use of a term typically used for women as an insult toward men...
His lack of hyphens is also hilarious

Only reading a few sentences made me not want to read any more... He spells words wrong (example: "climes" in context with hills), and his use of complicated words in wrong context is funny, but it actually makes my head swim. :P

How about some of those curvy pieces they used as elephant tusks and tail tips? Failing that, you could stack tiles in a "floating"-but-dome-shaped pattern or use your rock collection to approximate the shape.

Interesting idea...not sure if I have enough though. I came up with a design using some flex tubing and tiles/wedge plates that theoretically should work...

Random observation of the day: seems like most MOCs here are just basic landscapes; the only buildings are castles in general. Even Gilly hasn't built many exteriors recently...

Seriously, I'd really recommend trying some buildings other than just castles/outposts. They're a lot of fun and really stretch your skills :)

Ah, piece count can be an issue. I actually have an offset technique that allows for buildings with minimal brown tiles (if that's a problem) as shown here: http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=383215&id=/user_images/84200/1394405933m
However, I guess the fancy stonework on the lower floor is piece intensive if you want the best results

Well, you know, it really matters what pieces/characters you're looking for. Yesterday, I just ordered (through B-link and the Lego store)a couple sets that round up to about the same amount of money you are going to spend, but I chose them for their characters and pieces...

If you're asking what I would get, though, I would probably get the Kingdoms Joust, as it just has more parts/characters I could use, and, since it is less expensive, I could order something else too.

But, the Tower of Orthanc look really cool too, especially with all those interesting black pieces and spikes... it sort of reminds me of what I would imagine the Tower of Babel sort of being like...

Anyway, I suggest you see what pieces and character you want, and then decide, but if I were you (which I'm not, obviously), I'd pick the Kingdom Joust.

Edit: Woah! That's in bold! Anyway, as far as I can tell, there are two people for Tower of Orthanc, and two for the Kingdom Joust (Brick responded in the Question Convo.).

Kingdoms Joust might have the better pieces for castle building, but Tower of Orthanc just has something hugely impressive about it. It is very satisfactory to build (being so tall and all) and is the best Lego set I own, even against the 4000-piece Tower Bridge. I say orthanc.

Yeah, now that I look back on what I wrote, that doesn't make any sense. I guess I was trying to say two things at once: buying a lot of small things can really eat up your money (Pick-a-Brick); but by being careful by searching out for deals, you can get more stuff overall. Although I don't think either really applies to him... oh well, I must have been tired yesterday.

I hate jeans. The buttons hurt when you sit down, the tightener things on the side burn, the bunch up in the you-know-what, and they put a seam right on your backside. Sweat pants are comfy and cool for around the house, and even if you need to leave! But they are bad for being pantsed, I got nothing on that :P.

I'm writing a review for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.

THE HOBBIT: DESOLATION OF SMAUG MOVIE REVIEW

Now that the DoS dvd is released and I have re-watched it my memory of the film is revived, and I can now write a review on the whole thing.

First off, the thing that most bothered me was the action scenes and CGI effects. In fact, it seemed to me that those were what half of the movie was about. Just about every scene was made up of 75% CGI and 25% tangible sets, whereas in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, everything looked real, because 90% actually was. Remember Helm's Deep, that was all real! It was actually built, though most likely not to the scale seen in the film.

Now about the action. In An Unexpected Journey, there was a lot of gravity going on. Dwarves nearly falling off mountains, more dwarves falling off wooden structures (and not dying, even after getting crushed by a gargantuan goblin), and even more dwarves dangling off tree branches. The problem with Desolation of Smaug is that everyone seems to be defying gravity. Legolas suddenly turns into a ballerina and balances tip-toed on a dwarf's head while shooting unlimited CG arrows into masses of orcs, and Bombur (the fattest dwarf) is seen bouncing 10-20 feet into the air in a barrel. Also, the only two times people have gotten hurt are when Thorin got owned by Azog and Kili got shot, across both movies. The Hobbit just turned from a movie into a videogame. Even with these major flaws, the action scenes are still pretty enjoyable to watch. To add to the videogame aspect, the scenes where the dwarves are fighting Saug are just ridiculous. Smaug just can't seem to hit anything, and Bilbo and the dwarves are just pulling levers and chains and chucking dwarf grenades. Thorin even rode a wheel barrow in freshly melted molten gold that would definitely heat up the wheel barrow and sizzle him. Ugh.

Now, about the story. Personally, I don't think the inclusion of Sauron doesn't fit at all. Gandalf is seen investigating the necromancer and ringwraiths, eventually coming across Sauron at the end. But in Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf is just happily smoking and partying. But then he comes across the ring and remembers Sauron. When you put it alltogether (Gandalf finds out Sauron is the necromancer and finds out middle earth is threatened ---> [insert There and Back Again events] --> Gandalf is partying and smoking
--> Gandalf finds out about the ring and Sauron and that middle earth is threatened), it DOES NOT make sense.

Now onto Thorin. In the movie, he's shown as growing more selfish as he begins to care more for the Arkenstone than the dwarves and Bilbo. In the book, he wasn't as much, but he still cared for the other dwarves and Bilbo. Personally, I think he was given to much backstory, giving a Bilbo less time to be the main character. In fact, a lot of people were given to much backstory and such. Probably 10% of the movie is about Bilbo.

The movie should be called, 13 Dwarves, a Dragon, Some Elves, Two Wizards, A Lot of Orcs, a Few Men, and a Hobbit: The Desolation of Tolkien.

Also, the inclusion of Azog was not a good idea. In the book, he died. Now in the movies, he only lost his arm and is under the servitude of Sauron. Peter Jackson is going way to far. Good thing Tolkien will never know. The whole revenge against Thorn story arc is also ridiculous. He killed Thorin's dad or grandpa or whatever and he only lost your arm and got a better metal one that he could stab people with, I think he's more than even! And, he's got a kid (Bolg)??! What is this??!?

I have also included unnecessary points in the movie that has not been said above.
- the political or governmental problems or whatever going in Laketown
- probably the love triangle?
- the beginning Bree scene (We already know what's happening!!), it just adds some extra fat to the movie
- the giant crossbow thing that shoots giant black ”arrows“ (spears?!). It takes away Bard's identity as Bard the Bowman, now he's just Bard.

Well, that's my review for The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug (Tolkein?!), a movie you will initially love, but will ultimately disappoint you, when you really think about it.

I do agree that the movie did travel way off from the book. I did not like that Sauron was the Necromancer, that's supposed to be a totally different character that gets defeated by the wizards! But, I must say, I loved the movie for the way they portrayed the Mirkwood forest, and Smaug the dragon. those two things redeemd the whole movie for me.

THE HOBBIT: DESOLATION OF SMAUG MOVIE REVIEW

I agree with you on most points. EXCEPT:

-I really feel Sauron is needed. It shows the big narrative of all middle Earth.

- Azog was definitely needed. Who would've been the villain of the first movie without Azog? The movie would've been empty and really boring.

- While the wind-lance thing isn't in the book, it's needed to uphold the feel of all the Middle Earth movies. It would look infinitely unrealistic for a GIANT dragon to be killed by one TINY, LITTLE arrow.

-There should've also been more Beorn. And the whole Smaug vs Dwarves battle was just saddening.

No. The Silmarillion says very clearly that the Necromancer is Sauron. The wizards defeat his ring-wraiths, he just retreats and starts rebuilding Mordor. So he's "defeated", not killed.

Yeah, the elven palace was also very interesting visually. I loved Laketown too. Just how I imagined it! And the music was very fitting.

I agree there where some huge plot holes but i loved the movie in all, i believe Thranduil was initially too dark as in the books he helped the dwarves at first. but in the hobbits defense PJ messed up a Lot in The LoTR movies as well, such as Elves Marching into Helms Deep and them all dying including Haldir,(no elves where actually recorded being there besides Legolas). But Bolg actually was Azog's son

Yeah but the elves going to Helm's Deep didn't really affect the plot at all, other than the fact that there were elves. Everything added in the Hobbit made some serious changes to the main plot.

If I were you, I wouldn't put the rock there. It's going to be hard to see with its back to the border and the front towards the castle wall. The masonry is looking good, though - I might have moved the tan stripe up a level, but I can't wait to see what it looks like with towers.

I think that you should replace the dark bley cheese slopes and double cheese slopes that form the cross-shaped windows in the wall with light bley ones, if you can. Also, nice inclusion of that panel (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=44676) into the rockwork.

So, just to be absolutely clear...for my TT intro I misinterpreted the due date and suffered because of it. So for the MOCoff with Adam, it's due at 11:59 PM Sunday or Monday? I thought it was the latter, but all the TT rounds ended on Sunday, so...

Alright, (admins,) I'm assuming it really is tomorrow.

Hold on a sec - what is this? Kaeleb resurfaces and both Caleb and Thomas post MOCs on the same day for the first time in... a while. I might have to start believing in this Easter return-of-the-dead thing. Welcome back to all three of you!

Returning from the dead sounds like Skelletor's job... Can you look at my MOCs to see if any of them work here?

I'd say we're doing fairly well. No one has attacked us on our own territory since September - in fact, we've started a city attack against the Outlaws (the MOC-off Kai mentioned is part of it) and we're attacking Falmor next month.

Well, Skelletor is an Enalican, yes? So they could be Mythronians or Nerougeians, or possibly Outlaws. [Ess]

Well then maybe Skelletor could face a small army of Outlaws that try to rob him? Or they attack him and he fights back? [Ess]

Is there a part we could put a soldier fighting episode in? Or possibly his resurrection? But how would that wizard look? He still is a fire magic user...
